It comes in a small plastic bottle, and has a brush attached to the cap. It has a thicker consistency than peanut butter. I put a thick (1/16") layer of this stuff on the backing plates of both pads, let it sit for awhile (15 minutes) and then installed the pads. So far, no squeal on either the M3 (with factory pads) or the 525iT (with PBR Deluxe pads) when using this stuff. -rb >Date: Wed, 13 Sep 2000 23:05:44 -0400 >From: Ted Telesky <TTelesky@compuserve.com> >Subject: EBC brake pad noise > >I have had my greenstuff EBC brakes pads for about a month. >I have put on about 2000 miles. > >They still hear me coming a block away... really loud squeal >once they are warm. > >Are the Redstuff any quieter? > >Is there anything I can do to silence the Green pads? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I'd be driving on a smooth surface, and the ASC AND ABS would kick on for a brief period for no reason. Very annoying. I had the dealer look at it a first time, and they couldn't find anything. Finally, it started happening more frequently, and I actually got it to happen with a mechanic on a test-run for a second visit. Turns out it was an ABS sensor. So - I'd have them check the fault computer first, to see if it's registering any faults, and then have them test the ABS sensors - it could be the culprit. Hope this helps, Gregg '99 M3 http://members.tripod.com/gcouture/m3

As Jim can attest, I've got a squeaky clutch, brake, accelerator _and_steering column on my '95. I will be testing various lubricants (no wisecrack remarks) as a stop-gap measure this weekend. Sheesh. Must be some sort of weird German love for mice (or is that Maus?). ;-) -peterg

#5. [E36M3] PF 90 & 83 differences? - from Thomas E. Tice

Thanks Rich, Jim, Andrew, Rob, Sean and anyone else I missed for pointing out the discount at Porterfields. With that out of the way, I have one more question. I noticed that Porterfield has both 90 compound and 83 compound available for the M3. I have experience with the 83 compound on my previous E30 325 (I think that was all PF made for the E30). What are the differences between the 83 and 90 compound pads? I poked around the PF website but didn't find any solid info there. The tires were recently replaced all the way around. The previous set were Yoko AVS Sports, 255-40 in the rear and 235-45 in the front. No problems with the ASC ever. When I needed new tires I went for the new Kumho 712s. (BTW, they provide at least 9/10ths the performance of the Yokos. I was very pleased with their performance at the autocross this past weekend.) When I tried the local Discount Tire they couldn't get the 712s in a 255 and didn't know when they would be coming in. Tire Rack told me it would be close to 2 months before they received any. I couldn't wait that long due to an impending state inspection. So I ordered the 245s for the rears and kept the 235 size (purely for aesthetics) for the fronts. Problem: the 235s for the 712s are at least .5" taller than the Yokos. Add this to the fact that the 245s are shorter than the 255s and bingo, there's my problem. It's not really a problem b/c I never drive with ASC on and it never rains here in Dallas. ;) I can't believe I didn't think of this earlier, but I appreciate everyone's input. Thanks for the bandwidth. Best, Chris Griffith www.bmwmseries.com Is the road smooth ? There's nothing wrong with the RSMs, but the early generation ones had a slightly narrower base. My personal level of anal-ness is making me swap them out for the wider base RSMs (they are the same width as the stock RSM) ;) The first $65 takes them. BTW, they come with both "HIS" and "HERS" bushings. Thanks for the bandwidth, Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! #10. Vendor Warning - from Richard Buchanan

Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2000 23:10:34 -0700 From: Richard Buchanan <rbuchanan@pacbell.net> Subject: Vendor Warning I suggest NOT PURCHASING from Nick Alexander Imports in the LA area until UPS can sort out a little problem I've encountered. I ordered two pairs of euro rotors from them for $108/rotor on the recommendation of someone on this list. While it would have been a great price, I received an empty box stuffed with packing paper and my VISA was charged the full $432 + shipping. UPS picked up a package that was "recorded by shipper" to weigh 38 lbs (The last single pair I purchased from HMS weighed 34 lbs) from Nick Alexander Imports on Monday and delivered it today. How do you spell FRAUD? Does my UPS driver have a BMW E36 M3 with new euro rotors? Inquiring minds, and my bank account, want to know!
