Anyone > notice the > mirrors aren't M3 mirrors? I think this M3 has a story longer than is > written on the auction. seems like alot of trouble to go through to make it "look" like an m3, if it's not really one. i think only m3s were offered in yellow....so they would have had to add a body kit, paint job, very expensive wheels, seats, and i'm sure some other stuff i'm leaving out. looks like an m3 to me, with bigger (??better??) mirrors. btw, i got my windows tinted yesterday....smoke-20. weather was a bit cool today, but seemed like yesterday they kept the car much cooler...i'm not sure if i like the look yet (very dark), but definitely like that they should save the interior a bit... russell '99 dakar ===== "...extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."--bg __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? #3. Tire rub - from Hirsch Malik
Top
Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2000 18:37:38 -0400 From: Hirsch Malik <hirsch@earnings.com> Subject: Tire rub I hope someone can help me with this problem I've had with new BFG R1A's (235/40 R17). The inner part of the front tires rub on the bottom of the spring, the lower boot of it actually. Just barely, but enough to wear away part of the tread. Tire Rack says that they have never heard of this problem with these tires on an E36. But they are 8s instead of the stock 7.5s so I think maybe that's the problem. I've had a wheel alignment and everything is in spec, but the problem is still there. Has anyone run into anything like this? Thanks, Hirsch 98 M3 sharked

Has anyone run into anything like >this? i've never heard of anyone having rubbing problems with those either. but... BFG R1As are bigger then most tires. meaning that a 235/40/17 R1A is bigger (by an inch at least) then a yoko avs sport 235/40/17. how can they be the same size (number wise) but WAY WAY different in actual size? i dunno. so if you take a bigger wheel and put a bigger tire on it, i can see that it just might rub. ESPECIALLY if your car is lowered, or your 8 inch wheels have a smaller (or is it bigger? i never remember... whichever moves the tire IN on the car) offset (you didn't say). the only cures are use smaller tires, get wheels with different offsets, or use spacers to get the tire out away from the suspension. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2000 17:01:34 -0700 (PDT) From: Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Tire rub Our cars use negative offset so a 'bigger' number moves it further in. The width number on tires is supposed to be the section width, not the tread width. I don't know if the R1A's really have a 235mm section width of if the other tires are narrow or what. It sure would be nice to have a real unified tire measurment system. I've even heard of extreme wierdness within a tire family. For example, one guy I know bought SO2's in 225 and 245 widths. The 225 was wider than the 245. This was in Austraila - apperantly the tires were intended for two diferent markets. -Matt --- Sean Hester <seanh_race@hotmail.com> wrote: > Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2000 16:15:06 PDT > From: "Sean Hester" <seanh_race@hotmail.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Tire rub > > >I hope someone can help me with this problem I've > had with new BFG R1A's > >(235/40 R17). Does the Bentley Manual cover the entire procedure for bleeding the brakes and master cyllinder? Or do I need to go out and buy a different book? It isn't too hard is it? I have my super blue on order, and I just finished constructing my home made pressure bleeder ala Suzy's website. So, whats next? I am eager to get to it, because I don't think it has been done in two years or more! Feel free to comment on the procedure. I have the bentley manual, I just can't find it. #7. Sway Bar Adjusting 101 - from Lew Becker

Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2000 18:22:02 -0700 From: "Lew Becker" <lmbeckercfls@earthlink.net> Subject: Sway Bar Adjusting 101 I understood that the inside settings (shorter effective length) on adjustable sway bars are stiffer and the outside settings (longer effective length) are softer -- this made sense to me, based on my admittedly limited knowledge of physics, materials science, etc. But, it was pointed out to me that the UUC Boyz state just the opposite for their bars -- check out the "set up" for their bars on the web site. I called Dinan, and they confirm my understanding. Any thoughts from the Group? Lew Becker

So, yep, it makes it stiffer. I just did my first school at Lime Rock last week, so I am not much of an expert, but it looks to me like he is turning in way too early for the uphill, and then losing it as he's trying to correct ? -Adam Fila '95 M3

Sounds like it is very very suspicious. Anyone notice the > mirrors aren't M3 mirrors? I think this M3 has a story longer than is > written on the auction. I'd say those are aftermarket mirrors (they don't look like the regular E36 mirrors). Two clues that make me think it is probably a real M3: 1) It has the M3 logo on the door guard...I don't believe other E36s have a logo on the door guard at all. 2) The instrument needles are red...only M cars are supposed to come with red needles. Like someone else said, it is an awful lot of trouble to add all the M3 peices this car does have to a regular E36 (and then not change the mirrors too). Robert Pace '95 ///M3
