Yep. The way I think of this stuff is to take it to the extreme -- imagine if a sway bar had ends that were 100 feet long. It's easy to visualize that you could move one end and feel essentially no resistance -- the whole thing would be so damn floppy anyway. No resistance to movement = no effect on the suspension. So, short arm = stiff, long arm = not so stiff. Don't know why UUC would suggest otherwise. -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@pumpkininc.com

They actually look like regular 323/328 mirrors from later E36 cars, but in DakarII. It even states that the cars they sell often need refurbishing, due to a recovery mishap or chop-shop activity. That's my guess. -Paul > http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=439126364 > > > > Saw this on ebay. Sounds like it is very very suspicious. It's also likely that some previous owner thought the tiny M3 mirrors sucked and replaced them with the normal E36 ones. - Mark > -----Original Message----- > From: Paul England [mailto:ettsn@mindspring.com] > Sent: Friday, September 15, 2000 11:24 PM > To: E36M3 > Subject: [E36M3] Re: M3 on ebay > > > Date: Sat, 16 Sep 2000 02:16:42 -0400 > From: "Paul England" <ettsn@mindspring.com> > Subject: Re: M3 on ebay > > More likely, since it is a theft recovery, the company that > refurbed the car > might have ordered "E36 mirror kit" instead of the correct > ones, if the > mirrors were missing. I really don't find myself using the jackplate that I bought a while ago. If I'm changing wheels and the such, I usually opt to jack from the subframe to get two wheels in the air at a time (thanks, Rich for the great GP on the Lincoln jacks). So....the first $75 gets it. Have a good weekend, Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - Free email you can access from anywhere! http://mail.yahoo.com/

No, no, no.... there's a little history to all of this. Currently, this is what's stated on UUC's website: "After the front and rear Sway Barbarians have been installed, it is recommended that the front be set to FULL STIFF (which is the holes furthest from the ends) and the rear to FULL SOFT (holes closest to the ends). This setup will give your car the most understeer with the Sway Barbarians. From there, you can tune the bars to your driving style. " This is CORRECT! It *USED* to be wrong. I noticed the wrong advice when installing my UUC sway bars and discussed this with Ben. He admitted that there was a mixup and prompty corrected the mistake, but UUC Motorwerks didn't make a public comment stating that their webpage was incorrect (unless they contacted each person who bought the bars with the old setup instructions). To me, that's a little scary. So instead of having the maximum conservative setting (full stiff front and full soft rear....i.e. most inclined to push or understeer), you have the exact opposite if you followed the old setup info (full soft in the front and full stiff in the rear...i.e. maximum neutral or most inclined to oversteer or be "loose"). Andrew's visualization is spot on: the longer the lever arm, the easier it is to twist the bar... i.e., soft Chester BTW, the UUC sways are coming off the car whenever the Eibachs come in. ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
