I don't really care for the stock clutch setup anyway. Maybe this is the time to try some modifications? Which way will the release point go with the AA flywheel; towards the floor, or higher up? I'd like to get the clutch to release closer to the floor and also to have less total travel. The clutch pedal is too high compared to the brake making left foot braking difficult. Just using the clutch is a PITA when tightly strapped in with 5-points and a race seat because you have to lift your leg from the dead pedal to reach the higher plane of the stock clutch. I'd like the brake, clutch, and dead pedal to all be on the same plane. Any ideas? -- Ron Katona Chester Wong wrote: > > I think Jim mentioned that you need to upgrade the clutch arm or fork or > something like that.... #2. [E36M3] Gettin' it up - floor jack - impression - from GSM M3

Date: Mon, 18 Sep 2000 18:48:16 GMT From: "GSM M3" <carpediemm3@hotmail.com> Subject: [E36M3] Gettin' it up - floor jack - impression Sorry if this has already gone out, my company has been plagued w/ power spikes all afternoon. Just a short follow-up, regard’g the floor jack post/issue I made a few weeks ago. For a quick recap: I wanted to buy a good quality floor jack, and simply wanted it to come from this country. Lincoln (one of the industry heavies) has since purchased a Taiwanese facility, and no longer makes their model 93642 (a favorite among DIY’ers on this list) in this country, yet they print it(made in the USA) in small type on the jack sticker/decal, despite it saying “fabrique in Taiwan” (again in small type) on the box. New marketing perhaps (yes I’m aware that the box might have come from Taiwan, but not the case here). IMO, OTC, would have to have balls the size of brass church bells to make such a claim (if untrue), since their “made in the USA” quote, appears across the entire decal in large bold type, on the jack (no box). I’ve had the OTC (model 1727) 2 ton floor jack now for two weeks. In a word, in-f*cking-credible! I’ve used it 5X’s now, not including the numerous times I’ve had to jack up my 3yr old son, while he stands upon it. But I digress… Here’s what you really want know: OTC No. 1727 Competition -High Lift Height 22 1 /2" 20" -Low Lift Height 3 3 /4" 3 3 /4" -Low Lift Reach 27" 25" -Wheel Base 23 1 /2" 22 1 /2" -Chassis Height 6 1 /2" 6 1 /2" -Overall Length 30 1 /2" 27" -Handle Length 48" 48" -Manufacturing Source USA CHINA -Warranty Lifetime 5 yrs. The only downside that I’ve found is: 1.It weighs more then Lincoln (only about 10Lbs though – 108Lbs). 2.It isn’t the nice Lincoln Royal blue & yellow. The OTC is Carolina blue, however, since I live 1.5 miles from UNC of Chapel Hill, I’ve had plenty of time to grow accustom to this harmless sky blue. 3.Lastly, price. The OTC was $315 (MSRP $399 USD), Lincolns, can usually be found for $299, though I’ve heard of a luck few, finding them for as little as $199, on sale. Check ‘em out at http://www.OTCtools.com, select the link “The Jack,” be sure you check out the .pdf file w/ specs & images. I highly recommend this unit, for anyone that doesn’t mind shelling out a few extra shillings. HTH. Kind regards, Greg ‘99M (lookin' for an excuse to get it up again!) Know nothing of Zmax, but some very famous pilots swear by AVBlend, including a close friend who recently retired from the airlines and flies his 3 piston powered sport planes a lot. I haven't used it in my plane yet but when I get finished fixing the stuck rings in it (at only 30% of the recommended overhaul time) I definitely plan to try it. dw 95 M3 Date: Sat, 16 Sep 2000 01:05:46 -0500 From: casanova@foreverfun.com Subject: ZMax Snake Oil or what? I have my adjustable clutch stop set to it's shortest possible setting for proper engagement. One interesting side note, my clutch disk is supposedly a stock M3 disk (& pressure plate), but the disk doesn't have any damper springs. It's a solid disk from Sachs, but has stock type friction material shape. Did they change to this style on some M3's or did I get lucky?? Date: Mon, 18 Sep 2000 17:34:29 -0400 From: "Matt Malfa" <matt@shortshifter.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Re: LTW Flywheel Install Questions This has been a recent discussion on the UUC list, within the context of underdrive pulleys. Although no single consensus was reached, I would sum it up like this: the springs in the dual-mass flywheel allow it to function as a second vibration damper, in addition to the one on the front of the crankshaft. Removal of the dual mass flywheel is kosher, as is removal of the front vibration damper to install a pulley. Removal of both, however, will leave nothing to cancel out the 2nd and 3rd order vibrations experienced by the crankshaft at particualr RPM points. Hence the broken crank horror stories that have been circulating lately. I don't know of anyone it has happened to, but the principles are sound. Do one or the other, not both. The TMS LTW flywheel in the Bambislayer is a joy to drive with, especially the extra scoot off the line. However, the TMS flywheel is lighter than most (and I can prove it with the increased clatter at idle with the clutch out), and it has a proportionally larger performance gain, so my experience may not be the same as an AA owner. -Matt -----Original Message----- From: NickG [mailto:nikog@mediaone.net] Sent: Monday, September 18, 2000 5:14 PM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] Re: LTW Flywheel Install Questions Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2000 05:01:41 -0400 From: "NickG" <nikog@mediaone.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Re: LTW Flywheel Install Questions The stock friction disk on my '95 M3 was like that too, as was the Sachs replacement unit.
