(from whom I've never ordered before), let's first think about whether a dealership well known in this industry for probably longer than any of us have been diehard E36 M3 owners would ever knowingly engage in such illicit activity. It certainly wouldn't make any business sense for them to do so. So you certainly can't blame Nick Alexander's retaliatory action, which only hurts us consumers. And even if Nick Alexander knew or should have known that one or more of its staff members were engaged in this activity, Rich's accusatory comments assume that Nick Alexander would have taken no measures to remedy its relationships with its victimized customers. At most, Rich's accusations are unfounded and should at least have been verified with Nick Alexander privately before being posted publicly here. While I sympathize with Rich for his unfortunate loss, his blatant accusations were uncalled for. In order to help regrow the little reputation that Nick Alexander may have left as a result of Rich's actions, at least here on Suzy's list, it would be best if Rich contact Nick Alexander and identify the source of Rich's grievances and ultimately solve the problem, rather than proceed solely on his own presumptions that may in fact be untrue. Assuming your contentions are untrue, I suggest you call/write Nick Alexander and apologize. Do the right thing Rich. For the list. I never knew about this free S&H deal until I read Jeff's post!!! [reply] Rick, I don't know who is responsible for your mix-up, but it sounds like the problem lies with UPS. I have been buying parts from Nick Alexander Imports for some time without any problems. Joe and Danny are very helpful and responsive. Not only do they offer a great wholesale discount, but they do not charge shipping. That is, until now . . . Today when I called to order parts I was told they've been forced to start charging for shipping because of a problem Rich Buchannan is having with UPS and his claim that Nick Alexander has engaged in fraud. Thanks for ruining a good thing, Rich. You better hope they decide not to sue you for defamation. Maybe if you apologize and retract your allegations you can get them to reinstate their free shipping policy. In the meantime, your rant is going to cost the rest of us. That can cut pretty severly into their profit margin but it certainly helped me out and would have me ordering again in a heartbeat... Let's hope we can get this back on track. I'm sure I'll need more factory parts someday. I used to order parts from them, but I stopped as their service went to hell after a few orders. I started receiving the wrong parts even when the right one's were on the order form & I didn't even receive some line items. Returned items weren't properly credited, replacements were never shipped, etc. I finally had my CC company do a "charge back" and started shopping w/Louie at Pacific BMW, who has similar prices, and he charges for shipping but I at least get what I order. -- Roger "Jeff James" <jdgtrski@hotmail.com> wrote: > Rick, I don't know who is responsible for your mix-up, but it sounds like > the problem lies with UPS. Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2000 19:49:50 EDT From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] OEM suspension tinkering I don't know what parts from a '96+ M3 you want to use on your '95. I don't think there are many differences. If you are asking about the rear sway bar, I can help. The rear sway bar is different size between '95 vs '96. The '95 bar is 19.5 mm vs 20 mm for '96+. The '96+ is 0.5 mm larger. Theoretically, a larger rear bar will reduce understeer. The sway bars are identical in shape. The '96+ will fit perfectly on a '95. I've been using the larger '96+ bar on my '95 for 3 years. I bought the matching larger bushings with my '96 bar but I bet the '95 bushings will work just as well. By the way, credit for this mod goes to Bob Stommel. He told me about the larger '96 bar 4+ years ago at Heartland. However, I recommend saving your money. You won't notice any difference in handling. It is not enough larger to make a difference. Plus, I think the soft stock rubber bushings negate any increased roll stiffness. If you are looking for a cheap mod, try using urethane sway bar bushings with your stock bar. They are much stiffer than the stock rubber bushings. They are only about $40. Or for more money, buy a much larger aftermarket sway bar. Eibach and UUC are two of the most popular. They are 26 mm vs 19.5 mm for stock. Plus they come with urethane bushings. You will notice a much greater difference. The one other difference I know between '95 vs '96+ is rear rim width and tire size. The '96 is 245/40 on 8.5 inch rims vs. 235/40 on 7.5 inch rims for '95. I also recommend this change. 8.5 inch BMW OE rims will fit on the front as well. Putting wider tires and rims on the front will also reduce your understeer. Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2000 20:34:53 EDT From: Aswtguy2c@aol.com Subject: RE: DME/overrev question John, BMWs Diagnostic Computers, the DIS (Diagnostic Information Systems) and/or the MODIC (MObile DIagnostic Computer) can interogate the DME and checking the "Speed Detection" feature. I believe the DME's on the post '97 E36 3-series with DME MS41.1 and MS41.2 had this feature. The dealer can find out for you or not if the engine has been over-revved or not. If you did have an over revved engine, it would show your VIN, DME version, and the max rpm it detected like on my M3 which said 8160rpms, how many times it happened and how long ago it occured. Mines read 1200hours 5min ago. The only way that I know that can erase these speed detection in the DME is by sending it to BMW or Jim C. Hope this helps.
