#3. Tire Bleeder Valves - from Ron Katona

We didn't like them and ended up ditching 'em. Yes, they worked as advertised and the pressure was stable, but they made it difficult, really impossible, to read the tires when the session was over. How do you know if one tire is working too hard if the excess pressure is being vented? You'll also end up adding air more often since it vents out every session. I don't know what brand they were. Better to just check the air immediately before and after every session and keep records. No need to go to nitrogen, just monitor the pressures and set them up to get optimum pressure after the tires are heated. -- Ron Katona

Thanks uberjeph! The whole process was accomplished with a minimum of swearing and only one bicycle trip to the hardware store for an 8mm hex wrench. The plastic impeller pump with 67,000 miles on it looked to be in pristine condition and capable of another 67,000 but what the heck, at least I don't have to worry about it now. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. #5. rumble in right front - from Patrick Sarne

Date: Mon, 25 Sep 2000 08:19:02 -0700 From: Patrick Sarne <PatrickS@HoyleDonnelly.com> Subject: rumble in right front Hi everyone, I just returned from Buttonwillow with the San Diego CCA and had a great time. But, I am getting a rumbling sound from my right front tire area. At first I thought that it was just loud tire noise(Yoko AVS) because that is what it sounds like. But it's the only of the 4 tires making the sounds and when I put my stock wheels back on as a test and the sound remains. Also, it is audible with the wheel turned straight, louder as I turn left, and goes away as I turn right. It is definitely speed-sensitive (not RPM related), but I do not feel any vibrations at the wheel. Any suggestions? I thought it might be a wheel bearing, but an earlier post from Ben Liaw says that it would be a squeaking sounds. This certainly is NOT squeaking. Thanks for your help, Patrick Sarne 1995 M3 Bilstein/H&R/Fikse

I had nearly identical noises on another car (non-BMW), and it was most definitely a wheel bearing. The only wheel bearings I've heard that squeaked were on mouse cars :-) One other thing you should check is whether the noise changes when the brakes are applied _lightly_ -- it may be brake-related. -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. #8. Monday morning and shit happens - from Bora Akyol

Date: Mon, 25 Sep 2000 10:37:22 -0700 From: Bora Akyol <akyol@pluris.com> Subject: Monday morning and shit happens So I am driving to work this morning (I had not driven the car for a week), and I hear this dragging sound coming towards the front from the drivers side. Of course, by this time I am on the freeway and I can not stop. I drive to work and look under the car and see that a massive plastic shroud (under the radiator area). So I jacked the car up and undid a few bolts and tucked the shroud back in. By this time, about 1/8th of the shroud is gone but the rest seems OK. First of all, what is the proper name for this so that I can order the replacement part? What function does this serve? Can I go without it? How does this shroud fit? I don't have my Bentley with me. I managed to tuck it in, but left side looks different than the right side. I may also need to order the piece that goes on the side of it and looks like brake ducting piece since one of the clips on it seems to be broken as well. Nice way to start the week, eh? Bora

I went with a turbo & know others who have turbo or s/c and everyone I know has suffered from various annoying & serious problems. I now removed my AA turbo & am building a naturally aspirated 3.2L to replace the turbo'd one. The turbo cost me the old engine. Roger

I've been hearing an intermittent squeak noise coming from my M3. Are there any other signs of a wheel bearing going? How hard are they to change out on the M3? (pressed in?) I haven't noticed any side-to-side play in the front wheels. What are the failure modes? Anything else I should replace while I'm in there? (heh, while you have the rear wheel off, you might as well replace those nasty rear trailing arm bushings with TC Kline's metal bushings...) thanks guys. Also, if anyone in the bay area knows a good tint shop, let me know! -kit, praying that 245/40r17 BFG R1A's fit on his car with 17x8.5 m-contours all around 97 m3/4
