What this means is that with the climate we have here in the NY Metro area, I have what I call a 9 month a year monster, and a 3 month a year 'wisher'. That is to say that when its under 60 degrees, the car feels like it has a built in intercooler, and pulls like hell whether its just out of the garage for the first drive of the day, or after stop and go traffic, or after a halfhour of 70 mph cruising. NO problem...But, when its over 85, its jekyll and hyde personality shows through, with the combined effect of high ambient temps and heat soak slowing the 'punch in the back' acceleration. Although it still feels stronger than stock, it does nevertheless feel more like the NA version. In between, the difference is not that great, but is slightly detectable....I have no idea what the difference in power production really is between the two extremes, but it almost feels like its in the 30 - 50 hp or ftlb range. Obviously, thats more than can be accounted for by the 1%/10 degree ratio we often use. So I think that the IAT sensor is reporting to the DME a reading which is causing the ignition to retard timing more than can be accounted for by just the software's built in retard instruction tied to normal boost. Be that as it may, for 3/4 of my driving time, I feel the car pulls about as fast as almost anything you'll find on the street. The rest of the time, its just normal fast instead of crazy fast. And all the time, its damn reliable without ever a CE light, or a stumble, or a hint of any trouble. If someone had done a reliable intercooler for this installation, I'd grab it...But so far, I dont trust the rMS one, and Dinan could only do a reliable one which would break fort knox. At the track, in hot weather, youd be stronger than stock but you wouldnt be making the full 350 hp either all the time. If you get an under 80 degree day, you'll do better. And under 70, you'll be pretty near max power. Hope this helps... _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3; <20000 mi; Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger; Stygar Short Shift Kit and clutch stop; Skaags pedals -----Original Message----- From: Roger Baker <m3bmw1@pacbell.net> To: Paul Elliott <pelliott@rcn.com> Cc: E36M3 <e36m3@bmwmpower.com> Date: Tuesday, September 26, 2000 2:22 AM Subject: Re: Supercharge or Turbo >Good to hear that somebody has a good working system. #2. Foglight removal - from Paul Elliott

Date: Tue, 26 Sep 2000 20:55:26 -0400 From: "Paul Elliott" <pelliott@rcn.com> Subject: Foglight removal >>Ok, I'll give. How do you get the freeking fog light out of the air dam on an E36 M3? << Yes, this can seem confusing til you get it once. then its easy...I've had lots of practice while I was working out my fog light bracket-attached air duct. Anyway what I do is take a punch and use it in the upper of the two 'holes' on the right side (facing the car) of the brake duct...I like to use the punch because its shorter than a screwdriver, and I can manipulate it better. I just put the end in the hole, and probe around, poking, til I trip the catch holding the foglight to the bracket. It will 'jump' forward a bit, so you'll know when you've succeeded...good luck...It IS possible to do! _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3; <20000 mi; Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger; Stygar Short Shift Kit and clutch stop; Skaags pedals

Hey, I didn't write the post that you responded too. But I do agree with your assessment about a car feeling "faster" after a service. -Bryan Watts

Date: Tue, 26 Sep 2000 20:48:54 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason Bishop <jason@secondhat.com> Subject: redline tranny oil thanks to jim.m/jim.b/mark for the redline advice. I went with MTL and boy what a difference. geesuz. my gearbox may be giving me more problems than usual, but most of the annoyances have gone away now. Most of the difficulty shifting into 3rd is gone. used to have a hard time with it when shifting at redline into 3rd. interestingly, 4 -> 3 has always been fine. I can shift 4 -> 5 at redline without having resistance. it felt like I was shifting a bowl of mollassis before. fine now. shifting is much easier in the mornings now. I haven't had to "bump twice" since I changed the fluid. come to think of it, behaviour of 2 -> 3 was different than 4 -> 5. it would not go into 3rd until the rpm's had dropped into the 4's. with the 4 -> 5 shift, rpm didn't matter, it just shifted slow, as if I had to displace some high viscosity oil.
