Has anyone tried duct-taping the pieces together during track events/autoXs etc. I believe that mine fell off during or right after my last autoX." I bring a good selection of those nylon zip ties to the track. A few quick holes from a portable drill and I have been able to lash the remaining pieces into place. The duct tape will just tear loose. David Holeman www.racepad.com

It was a Jetta (I think) with probably a VR6. I was on my way to Vegas and I was passing a Mudstang on the right (cuz the idiot is from LA and no one moves over but that's another story) and he started revving his engine and started to accelerate. It didn't look or sound stock but I was pulling easily away from him but the Jetta was on my butt and couldn't pull away easily from him until we hit about 135mph (the Mudstang was history by then). His speed limiter kicked in or he lost his huevos but I hit about 155mph easily before I started coming up on some cars so I slowed down. VW's with the VR6 is not a slow car but you have a chip that takes off the speed limiter, right? :) I still love my car. Another story on the track this time... I was in the B run group and there was a 650hp 911 turbo. I passed him every session (at least once!) My car is definitely not faster than that 911tt but the driver was not faster than me :) After the first session I passed him, my instructor asked me how I felt and I said, "Are you kidding? I just passed a 911tt on the track. I feel f@*&ing great!!!" :) -Bobby > -----Original Message----- > From: Wayne Miller [mailto:m3@waynemiller.com] > Sent: Tuesday, September 26, 2000 8:45 AM > To: E36M3 > Subject: [E36M3] M3 feels slower by the day - I agree > > <snip> > I was on the highway a few weeks ago and I had a plain > looking VW > Golf behind me accelerating on the highway from about 60 to 125 and he was > right on my butt the whole time. I've had zip ties holding the front end of my car together for months at a time. BMW should just include 'em in the trunk tool kit :) Last month I replaced my fog lights and the plastic underbody pieces in the wheel wells. Last weekend coming back from the track I hit a tire carcass, it pulverized the left foglight, and ripped the attachment points on the recently replaced plastic. So back to the zip ties... - Rich

I'm very happy with them. They look very much like OE with the only difference being the lack of the little M badge, and the lack of a hard to notice ridge just outside the bole circle on the OE wheels. When I bought mine Tire Rack only offered them in 7.5" width. If they're available in 8.5" now I'd like to hear about it. I might consider putting them on the front too. The finish looks very good and the eyeball gauge says they fit just like OE (I haven't measured offset or anything). Hope this helps. I am so used to the euro spec. mirror now that when I get in a car that has the OE U.S. version I find myself taking extra caution because of the limited sight. I guess it's all a matter of perspective. > > > In reality, I don't believe that these mirrors are used on the driver's side > of Euro M3s. The latest parts cds include all country versions so I can tell whether it's a GB version etc... So: 51 16 2 267 223 is the passenger side as opposed to 224 (euro left steering) and 51 16 2 267 223 is the drivers side for right hand steering as opposed to the 191 referenced above. Our U.S. 51 16 2 259 035 does not register as a Euro part. > > > One strange thing about this mirror is that it REALLY heats up compared to > the mirror on the passenger side. I'm not sure it does this, unless my > stock mirrors really didn't heat up. Stock mirrors don't heat up all that well. At least in the four cars that I've had. Talk about a lemon run! :-) Cheers, Jim E.

Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2000 09:00:48 -0700 From: "Burgess, Kim L" <Kim.Burgess@PSS.Boeing.com> Subject: Viper Vs M3 I think that we might be missing something basic here. We could probably go and buy M3s all day long for $25-$30k (MY 1995) and we would have a pretty good handling car that accelerated pretty well for twenty year old technology. I believe a Viper would set you back about $65k on the used market. So if you bought a used M3 at say $30k and dumped about $35k into it I'll bet it would challenge anything based on that dollar for dollar expenditure. my $.02 KLBurgess 99///M3

I'll accept that challenge (especially since its 'virtual').... Let's see now, we'll need a rundown '84 911 shell. Should be able to get that for under $10K. Strip it way down, install a harness, seat and cage - say $4K. Then we'll blow $30K on a prepped 3.6l Turbo engine, another $8K to get the suspension and aerodynamics set, and $6K to put some big brakes on. With the remaining $7K we'll put on some big rear fenders and get some 12" rear wheels and tires. I think that would be a fun tracktoy to run against a $65K M3. Pick your track.....
