I replaced my stock rotors with Euros this summer and managed to warp them the second time I used them on the track - perhaps because my ducting came loose on one side. I got less than 500 miles out of them before they warped; vs. more than 65,000 miles (and still going) out of the stock rotors. :-( As for best upgrade, I'd say participating on this list! It has lead me to do lots of other upgrades previously mentioned by others, all of which I'm very pleased with. The most recent "best upgrade" is the Darth Vader M3 seat covers obtained through the group purchase arranged by Tom Tice. They look good, are very comfortable, keep me from sliding around on the track, eliminated annoying squeaks caused by the leather rubbing on the center console, and will preserve my seats for years to come. Twice the price, not _nearly_ twice as resistant to warping unless you have full duct work... and if you have full duct work, the stock rotors would be fine! Double your brake maintenance costs to lose a couple pounds of unsprung weight that you'll never notice. Also not legal in SCCA stock or street prepared classes (never an option on a US car). I rate them BMW: Big Money Waster. -- Ron Katona _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I also got pulled over for my loud exhaust. While he was at it, the cop decided to write me up for tinted windows and no license plate up front (see, it CAN get worse). I had to rip my tinting off the windows (bummer), and hang a license plate up front (with strings, believe it or not) and go to a CHP station to get it OK'd. FYI, I have a Hamman exhaust, which I believe is made by SS, so the sound is similar. I've gotten ticketed twice for it, but I've never had to replace it. They always let it pass at the CHP inspection. Just make sure you get a woman officer to okay it and open the door for her on your way out of the station. It's always worked for me :) Juan. -----Original Message----- From: dennis quan [mailto:dcquan@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, October 01, 2000 1:25 AM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] Pulled over for my SS exhaust!! Today, I was driving on 580 and I got pulled over by the California Highway Patrol. I was puzzled at first because I has seen the cop from far behind and I was obeying the speed law. The cop came up to my window and asked me whether my SS exhaust was legal or not. I told him that it was a legal exhaust. He then asked me whether I knew what I was talking about or not. I replied that my cats were still on and I will no problem passing smog. Well, it turns out that he was concerned about the noise level from my exhaust. I told him that my exhaust was the quietest aftermarket exhaust. He didn't believe me and he kept asking me if my exhaust was made by Greddy or not. I told him it was a Supersprint exhaust. At that point, he told me to turn on my vehicle and rev it up to 3000 rpm. He seemed rather disappointed that my exhaust was not loud at all. So he then asked me whether my driverside and passengerside windows were tinted or not. Both my windows were rolled down so I knew he couldn't tell but I didn't want to lie to him. So I played dumb and replied I dont know. He then tells me to roll my windows up a little bit. I roll them up and then he immediately tells me that he will give me a ticket for illegal tint. Well, it's no longer just a fix it ticket for tinted windows. It's much more expensive than the old 10 dollar fee. He didn't tell me how much it would be. And then, another car drives by with a super loud exhaust and the cop tells me that is an illegal exhaust. I was thinking "Why are you standing outside of my car instead of chasing after him to give him the stupid ticket?" Man, I am so pissed off because now I probably have a 100 dollar fix it ticket that I should of never gotten. Who gets pulled over for having a SS exhaust? There are so many more flashy exhausts out there. Well, I figured today was the last day of the month for the cop to reach his ticket quota and I happened to be the unlucky soul. Cops should have better things to do than pull people over with simple exhausts. Besides, what if I had the UUC exhaust, then what? I don't think he has the proper equipment to measure how loud my exhaust is. It's all very subjective. Damn it, I'm pissed off. My question is, did I have to raise my windows because the cop asked me too because that was not his original reason for pulling me over? Reach in the player and push the cd that is stuck back and forth, side to side against the spindle it is stuck on. It may take a few tries, but you will eventually enlarge the hole in the cd so that it can be ejected. When your finished pushing the stuck disk around, put the cartridge back in and see if it ejects. My uncle is a cop, one of the few honarable ones Ive yet to meet. He said himself that nowadays he is embarassed to be a police officer sometimes. He's ashamed to tell people what he does for a living because of the notorious reputation cops are getting these days. He brought up a valid point. Cops work long hours and dont get squat for pay. When they see a nice car, they get jealous and spiteful. They feel this way because they simply cant afford a nice car like that. Being only 19, I get pulled over alot for driving an M3(flame suit on, protect me Suzy lol) When it happened the first few times I felt like it was my fault so I got scared and fell for what they filled my head with. They would say "You were drag racing" or "That car isnt yours(beleiving i stole it)" Theyd threaten to tow the car, take me to jail etc etc. Now I realized they are simply busting my balls so Im not nearly as passive as I used to be. Granted with age comes wisdom so im slowly wising up. Its HUGE inconveience when im trying to get home late at night and they detain me for an hour only to give me a BS ticket like "No proof of registration/Drivers liscense or no seat belt" etc. I always have those items on me so theyre just itching to write tickets. Of course they get a portion of money from all the tickets they issue. Too bad so many of them abuse their power....And they wonder why everyone hates em. Jonathan 99 M3

Date: Sun, 1 Oct 2000 13:26:04 -0400 From: "Adam Fila" <ylf@mindless.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Petit Le Mans Actually, the first LMR with Auberlen did the by now infamous backflip into the air (much like the Porsche did 2 years ago at the first Petit Le Mans, and Mercedes did last year at Le Mans) Quite spectacular. Auberlen looked pretty shook up when he got out of the car, but was uninjured (he did check his arm to make sure it is still attached to his body !) The second LMR with Mueller at the wheel spun on it's own about an hour before the end, and went back-first into a tirewall, ripping off the rear wing. They lost about 10 laps while fixing the damage, and also the 2nd place. They finished 5th behind both Audi's and Panozes. This is now second time in a row that Mueller threw away a secure podium finish at the PLM (last year he spun when the LMR was leading the race only several laps before the checkered flag, letting the Panoz pass him) As for the PTG M3's, neither one finished. The #7 with Stuck, Said and van Overbeek was briefly leading the class, and was running in 3rd for a while. Unfortunately they had to make several lengthy service stops, and dropped down to 5th. Finally towards the end of the race, they lost a driveshaft (yet again) which then tore an oil line in the braking zone to 10 (which if you don't know Road Atlanta is the sharp left hander after the longest straight - not a very good place for oil!) The driver of the #7 car didn't know about the oil, and drove the car all the way to the pits, leaving behind a massive oil trail, creating total chaos on the track. It was dark so the oil wasn't easy to see, and a major spin fest began. The biggest casualty was the Aspen Knolls GT3-R driven by Wagner, Lewis and Mazzuoccola (they used to race E36 M3's in the past) which was running in 3rd place, but had a big off into the wall braking into 10 in the oil and totaled the car. All in all, it was a very exciting race, but not a good day for BMW at all. BMW also formally announced that the LMR's will not be back next year (this wasn't really any news). However, they said that instead they will concentrate more on the GT class, and supporting Milner and PTG (instead of a formerly rumored involvement in DTM) This might be good news. Maybe there are customer M3's in the future, and maybe they can finally make a dent in the army of GT3-R's that are having their way with the GT class at the moment. It could also mean M3's at Le Mans for the first time ever ? -Adam Fila '95 M3 > Pretty sure he ended up in second overall and in LMP > class, although we were pretty far from the podium at the end of the race.

X-Brace Best Interior Mod: Gauges in the sunglass holder 'WORST' UPGRADES: None (I do too much research before I buy, so I haven't purchased anything that I regret) But, there is a category that I'll include instead of 'Worst'... 'WASTE OF MONEY' UPGRADES: Bumper Stop for x-brace (it was only $15 or so, but that could have been better spent on gasoline) 'BEST MAIL ORDER VENDOR' By far, Stephen Wolfe was the best vendor. It was great to have someone on the phone who knew BMWs and BMW parts, and knew how to research what worked and what didn't, and gave GREAT discounts. Since Stephen is no longer selling to the list... Bavarian Autosport - always courteous, they match prices, and I always receive the parts within two days. 'BEST LOCAL VENDOR' When I purchase locally, I go to Tischer BMW, where they give a 20% discount off the REAL price, not an inflated retail price. 'WORST LOCAL VENDOR' VOB. They offer great discounts (see their ad in the Roundel), but they won't give me the same discount if I walk in the door. F**k them! -rb _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. That is, after the first week or so, while it got broken in. After it was first installed, it felt fairly stiff, and I was wondering if I made a mistake by installing this mod. Once it had a few weeks of use, it smoothed out to the point that it feels as smooth as a factory system. The instructions that I followed recommended grinding away the lip inside the carrier, which was accomplished with a metal file. I've never had any problems engaging reverse or fifth gear, and the ERK screws have never loosened. Overall, and EXCELLENT upgrade. -rb _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I have seen packages with the clutch, brake, and accelerator, or with the dead pedal, or the dead pedal alone. I haven't seen any with accelerator only. If you have found a source would you be willing to share that source with me please? Thank you, Marc Edwards 1995 M3 LTW looking for a new go pedal cover.

A friend showed me a current copy of a BMW TIS CD (Technical Information System - I think?), which seemed very informative. He left town for a while, before I thought to ask where he had acquired it. Could someone tell me how and where to obtain these types of CD’s. Do I have to schmooze the local BMW tech, in order to “pirate” a copy, or can they be had/purchased, by merely contacting one of the numerous aftermarket houses? If some or all come from the dealer, the part number(s) for these discs would be greatly appreciated. Cd’s specific to the 99 E36 M3 coupe/sedan please. Have a nice week.
