I was just letting everyone know what my experiences were with this product. I also grinded the carrier and never had trouble engaging any gears, but the ERK just never wanted to stay attached to the carrier and UUC's answer to that was "well you must have put it in wrong since its installed on 1000's of cars and its working fine." I don't doubt that the shifter works great for you and probably many others, but I wanted to point out to potential customers that the arrogance level of UUC comes into play when you have a problem because their attitude dictates that since their products are superior there must be something wrong with you. Maybe the type of carrier that I have on my car is softer then most, maybe I got some defective screws, who knows. But what I do know is that UUC failed to correct the problem, blaming me for improper installation. Also, you may recall that they had problems with their stop clutch. Someone else mentioned this already, but it seems like UUC uses US as guinnea pigs for the first round of a product release. We are the test bed, and when the product fails, they upgrade and leave the initial testers in the dust. Ok so now you can say I officialy have BASHED UUC and I'm not gonna hide under a rock. Andy K. -----Original Message----- From: Ron Buchalski [mailto:rbuchals@hotmail.com] Sent: Sunday, October 01, 2000 11:25 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] Re: UUC Short Shifter Date: Mon, 02 Oct 2000 04:16:21 GMT From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: UUC Short Shifter There was some bashing of the UUC SS kit recently (in some 'Worst Upgrade' responses), so I wanted to go on record to say that I've had the UUC Competition Kit (with ERK) on my car for over one year now, and have had nothing but great experiences with it. That is, after the first week or so, while it got broken in. After it was first installed, it felt fairly stiff, and I was wondering if I made a mistake by installing this mod. Once it had a few weeks of use, it smoothed out to the point that it feels as smooth as a factory system. The instructions that I followed recommended grinding away the lip inside the carrier, which was accomplished with a metal file. I've never had any problems engaging reverse or fifth gear, and the ERK screws have never loosened. Overall, and EXCELLENT upgrade. -rb _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Marc, John Skaggs sells a heel-n-toe aluminum pedal cover by itself. It is $66 including shipping. Otherwise buy all three regular ones (w/o having the heel/toe pedal) keep the accelerator cover and I'll buy the brake and clutch cover from you. :-) Carlos Motor City Chapter E30 M3 w/Skaggs h/t pedal cover. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? OK here's mine, (1) Euro airbox (makes a good target for shooting paper baskets), (2) Buying a Euro snorkel and brake duct + K&N filter from Korman. Talk about getting ripped off! $160 for their "ram air kit" back when I bought mine. Bad Vendors I'll never buy from: (1) Korman (2) Mesa Performance: for selling me a counterfeit Conforti chip. #4. Best M3 upgrade - from vincent.a.leo@us.arthurandersen.com
Top
Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2000 10:21:13 -0500 From: vincent.a.leo@us.arthurandersen.com Subject: Best M3 upgrade As to Suzy's best upgrade question. My response is driver's schools/track time. I have 15 track days so far this year and have 4 more scheduled. I have also had 8 days during the past 2 years. With all the track time this year, I have picked up a significant amount of speed and truly believe track time is the best upgrade. Don't get me wrong, I also have a long list of upgrades (too many to list) and I really enjoy my car with them - some to improve performance, some are really just "eye/ear candy". I also think most upgrades do improve the car, but best bang for the buck is track time. Date: Mon, 02 Oct 2000 09:37:03 CDT From: "Scott" <whosez@hotmail.com> Subject: FS: Snow tires in Chicago area Will be driving second car this winter and can hopefully pass these on to someone needy. 16" Mille Miglia Spyder wheels with 225/55 Michelin Blizzak tires. Put maybe 8000 miles on tires and have about 1/2" tread left and wheels are in good condition. Will fit any E36, but more importantly will clear brake rotors on an M3 (few 16" wheels will). Price $550 obo. Prefer to sell local as shipping costs could be significant. Please reply privately to whosez@hotmail.com. Thanks! -Scott _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Next year I won't forget my scanner! > Actually, the first LMR with Auberlen did the by now infamous backflip into > the air (much like the Porsche did 2 years ago at the first Petit Le Mans, I heard about that later yesterday (after my post) from another buddy who saw it. Ouch! You should've seen the smoking hulk on the flatbed when it came into the pits. We were down near it when it came in. Total loss. > The second LMR with Mueller at the wheel spun on it's own about an hour > before the end, and went back-first into a tirewall, ripping off the rear > wing. They lost about 10 laps while fixing the damage, and also the 2nd > place. They finished 5th behind both Audi's and Panozes. That explains seeing it come by without a wing! We didn't catch a leaderboard for a while after that, so I didn't realize he'd lost 2nd. Bummer. > casualty was the Aspen Knolls GT3-R driven by Wagner, Lewis and Mazzuoccola > (they used to race E36 M3's in the past) which was running in 3rd place, but > had a big off into the wall braking into 10 in the oil and totaled the car. Saw that accident. Right after we saw the PTG car coming over the hill smoking we went to the other side of the bridge to see about 80% of a GT3R sliding into the gravel. Ugly! The whole right front was gone. > All in all, it was a very exciting race, but not a good day for BMW at all. Agreed! I still had a helluva good time! Laguna Seca is coming up in a few weeks. Maybe I need to plan a trip... -Paul

#8. Best M3 upgrade - from shane.a.kleinpeter@ac.com

Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2000 10:27:53 -0400 From: shane.a.kleinpeter@ac.com Subject: Best M3 upgrade I have not seen anybody mention this yet so I will throw it into the mix. My best upgrade, hands down, has been the BimmerWorld brake ducts for my M3 which really only sees track duty, despite the fact that it's a Lux. Before putting in the ducts I was warping rotors all the time at the track. Have not warped a rotor since installing the ducts (which remove easily after a day at the track) and am enjoying the $$ saved on rotors for other upgrades. #10. PTG E46 troubles - from jbergstrom

Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2000 08:57:36 -0500 From: "jbergstrom" <john@intellectsys.com> Subject: PTG E46 troubles >>>>As for the PTG M3's, neither one finished. The #7 with Stuck, Said and van Overbeek was briefly leading the class, and was running in 3rd for a while. Unfortunately they had to make several lengthy service stops, and dropped down to 5th. Finally towards the end of the race, they lost a driveshaft (yet again) which then tore an oil line in the braking zone to 10 <<<< Seems like ever since they moved to the E46 chassis and tried to pump another 40hp out of the engine, they've been having too many mechanical troubles. The engine probably is outdated compared to the new 911's (everything I've read suggest that PTG is happy with the handling of the new car, but is outpowered by the Porsches) and hopefully this will bode well for a push to re-design a more potent and reliable aluminum I6 or drop in some version of that sweet V8 we're all hoping for . . . <pure speculation> John '95 M3
