I find that odd. The UUC guys are all down at O-Fest this week and I am guessing that they don't have E-mail access there. My SS with ERK works fine, isn't loose and goes into 5th and reverse without trouble. Of course, I had Ben (from UUC) put mine in. -Wayne

I had originally purchased them for track use but, due to my incredibly busy schedule (read: laziness) and frequent track time I began using them on the street as well. I found them to have excellent modulation, unlike the stock Textars, and unbelievable stopping power, even when cold. I do get some some low-speed squeal here and there and they dust as much as stock, but less than the PF90s. I used the PF90s on the street as well a while back and found that I could not live with the rattling. Some may disagree, but I think the R4s are as close as you can get to a dual-purpose pad. Date: Wed, 04 Oct 2000 08:58:49 -0700 From: "Andrew E. Kalman" <aek@pumpkininc.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] UUC SS I put an ERK/SS into my E12 530i, which has the same tranny (now) as the E30 M3. It's a Getrag 265. I had to machine the carrier in order to be able to engage reverse and 5th gears. UUC pointed out that this might be necessary. i had to do some other mods, too, to get everything set up correctly. I wasn't happy with the UUC solution for supporting the rear of the carrier, so I made my own. It works fine, and the ERK has not made its way loose. Note that the carrier on this car is steel -- maybe the later ones are aluminum. E36 M3 content: this car uses an E36M3 rubber boot where the ERK and carrier pass through the body. A: Yes, resulting in a buzzing at certain engine/road speeds i've had both the original competition and now the evo comp versions of the product. the original always had a gritty feel, and when i replaced it with the evo version it was afflicted with the 'bad' bearings the early units apparently had (the lever was not located properly in the lateral plane, making the car undrivable until the replacement busings arrived/could be installed. the buzzing started after the bearing swap. i love the shifter for what it does when all goes right, but there has to be a way to minimize what's been going wrong. daanesh embarrassed to carry passengers, unable to get an appointment at turner _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I've tried the Dinan (sold to an unsuspecting soul like me) and the BMW Motorsport brace (currently installed) and they're worthless. Simply eye candy. I notice that the UUC Motorwerks folks don't have their Barbarian brace for sale anymore. I wonder why? Just spend $125 for an X-brace (sans buffer stop) and be done with it. Spend the $500 you saved by not buying a strut tower brace on driving schools; much better return on investment. Jim Millet 1995 M3, Hellrot, Sharked and more.

Anyone have the real story on the "soft" valve spring retainers in some of the 1995 3.0L M3 motors? Is it really a concern on a car that only sees some track use? Is it even a real problem or just a theory? TIA, Rob

(1-100, high numbers better) braking performance ----- livability pf-90: 98 - 15 R4: 96 - 45 stock: 70 - 70 so... you can see that the R4 pads are no where near as "friendly" as the stock pads, but compared to pf-90s they are a dream. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Interesting, looks like its been replaced with a set of overpriced ($375) springs. So whats the scoop on this one? Did they run out of supply or were they just not flying off the shelves? I would have thought that since BMW had one of these suckers in their design they might be useful, then again they did stop making them for '96+ cars... Andy K. On a side note, when I installed the X-brace I did notice a small change in turn-in feel. I have not idea if it helps anything, but it definitely felt a bit different :) -----Original Message----- From: Jim.Millet@intermec.com [mailto:Jim.Millet@intermec.com] Sent: Wednesday, October 04, 2000 12:07 PM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] Worst M3 upgrade?
