I think the M-Roadster is supposed to be around January '01. Not sure about a transmission. At one point the engineers had said that the 6 speed wouldn't fit the tunnel on a Z3. Maybe they will have new floor pans? -------------------- 3 -------------------- Date: Wed, 04 Oct 2000 10:57:00 -0700 From: Kit Wetzler <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> Subject: OT: M-coupe w/ E46 M3 engine? > remember (correct me if I'm wrong) the only BMW available with an exact > 50/50 weight distribution is the M Coupe. So... We've all heard the rumors about the M-coupe and M-Roadster getting the phat engine. What do y'all think? Gonna happen? Not gonna happen? The idea of driving a shoe with 333hp sorta makes my mouth water, like... well... like anyone thinking about a 3100lbs 333hp M-coupe would. ;) -kit 97 M3 w/ occasional aspirations towards shoes...

They are putting the rear suspension form the E46 in it, killing the only real complaint with the car. The sketches I've seen of the new Z-body is pretty hot. If anyone knows a spot on-line to grab pictures, let the list know... -peterg

#5. sway bar bushings - from Kit Wetzler

Date: Wed, 04 Oct 2000 13:16:18 -0700 From: Kit Wetzler <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> Subject: sway bar bushings Anyone know of a replacement bushing for the stock sway bars? I'm weird and don't like stiff sway bars on my cars, part of that is due to my driving style over bumpy tracks, but I like to preserve the indepedence as much as possible. But, I would like to kill some of that roll. Would prefer Delrin, as I *hate* squeaky polyurethane bushings. :) Failing that, would really dig a set of grease fitting equipped bushings. Lastly, who has tried the Koni coilovers? Thinking about trying something a bit stiff than the H&R sports. Thanks everyone! -kit 97 m3

I think it will make the shift shorter? Jonathon- I'm not Carl Buckland, but I do own his former car and have spoken with him extensively about suspension setups, etc. as I setup Ice9 for different situations. We can talk about all the options if you like related to coilovers, etc. However, given your goals: street only, "install and forget", slightly stiffer but still tolerable, most stock like, etc. you sound like the target audience for a Dinan suspension. Look at the various "stages" and determine what is right for your needs. Even though I drive a _heavily_ modified car and am former Dinan basher, I've become very impressed with their products after driving several cars at varying levels of modification. I thing Dinan has the best least hassle to benefit ratio of upgrades--they make your car fast, but not as fast as it could be if you go custom. For this, you pay a bit more, but it works out of the box with no headaches, as a general rule. Plus, for a 99, you maintain your warranty. For my wife's 97 M3/4, which is our daily driver, when and if it gets modded, it will likely be Dinan stuff for the above reasons. The race car, on the other hand, will not... That and the way they keep gumming up on the track causing vibration which then goes away and so on and so on. Where is a good lace to get these? How do they compare to Cool Willys? I, like Sean, am unhappy with the clipless pads for the street. I have found that I can usually "hear" if my shock mounts are toast, if my sway-bar bushings are shot, if my brake wear sensor has disconnected and is dangling around. With the clipless pads, all of those telltale sounds are drowned out by the clatter of the pads. If I were to offer my ratings they would reflect the following: Track performance street performance PF90s 98 40 R4 96 80 Stock 70 95 And don't confuse the R4 pads with the R4S (where the "s" stands for "squeal") Rob ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. *************************************************************

Sometimes you may have to bend the clips just a bit to get a perfect fit. I've always ordered mine directly from Porterfield. A full set should run you about $200 with the usual E36M3 discount. I can't compare them with anything other than the PF90s. If you're racing, I'd say stick with the PF90s. If you're just a dedicated track junkie, the R4's seem to do the trick. As the car is used for pleasure only at this time my sole intent is to do small simple mods until I am to a point I can explore other options (i.e. driving schools, etc.). As I have read many favorable things about x-brace I was wonder if there was anything on the "down side" to consider? I would be glad to hear any positive experiences as well. Hmmm . . . anyone else out there like the R4 pads? Maybe >that is the way to go . . . John, I've been using the Porterfield R4 pads for a year and a half. They stop quite well at the track and are not too bad around town when cold. They do squeal sometimes quite loudly, but not so bad that I change them in between schools anymore as I too have gotten lazy. They usually last me about 3 to 4 weekends for the fronts and 5-6 weekends for a set of rears. Though I do not share your unbridled enthusiasm for Ho-Ho's (that's what I call 'em), I do find them to be an excellent snack. Shane Kleinpeter Tarheel Chapter '96 M3 '88 535is
