I just installed my UUC System U cat-back and it looks and sounds great, although I find it a bit too loud for me. I don't understand how it could be possible but I've heard a few System U owners say that it gets *quieter* after a few weeks. Is this true? How? Anyone wanna' trade an almost new System U for something else? Thanks, Rob

#9. Road Atlanta and E46 M3 Raffle - from Chester Wong
Top
Date: Thu, 5 Oct 2000 18:25:58 -0700 (PDT) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: Road Atlanta and E46 M3 Raffle Hey guys. I'm writing to you from Greenville, SC! I brought my laptop down to store all the digital pics that I snapped. About the E46 M3 raffle, I was at the Motorsport event last night where they raffled off 6 or 7 M3s. The first 3 or 4 were picked by the PTG drivers--Bill Auberlan, Brian Cunningham, Boris Said, and Tom Milner. Unfortunately, I didn't win out of those mentioned! There were ~15,000 raffle entries!!@@!$!@$ YIKES! I believe a few were raffled off the night before and some will be raffled off tonight as well as Friday night. It would be so nice! Anyway, I heard the new E46M3 (Laguna Seca Blue one) fire up and rev a little....quite a metal rattle. I also saw the old PTG #10 E36M3 run at Road Atlanta and heard the #7 E36 M3 car start up and stall and fire up and stall and fire up at the Performance center (Bill Auberlan must have been having fun doing that!). Road Atlanta was a blast although it was definitely scary for my first driver school. Those blind turns and elevation changes (combined in some turns!) were definitely unnerving. My instructor and I really didn't gel all too well with him not providing much feedback and forcing me to heel-toe shift. I repeatedly told him that I was uncomfortable doing so and I would shift early to compensate. He continued to force me to shift late which resulted in my grinding third a few times. DOH! I wish Seth Thomas would have been my instructor or something. I caught a glimpse of him, but the dumb ass (jk) thought I was a stranger wavving at him and he would walk on by when I was flagging him down to talk to him. At any rate, here are a few pics of me http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=838931&a=9180571 The autocross was pretty cool, too! I wouldn't call it your typical autocross course since a) you shifted into 3rd! an b) you reached a speed of about 80 - 90mph! Overall, I thought the autocross was poorly planned. They had everyone who was to run (I believe there were about 88 M3s and quite a few other cars just for that day...and that didn't count the cars that had two drivers) that day arrive in the morning and hang around all day long. It was a real bore just sitting around. By the time I was able to run, the morning course walk was a distant memory. They should have split the large group into two groups and then divide the halves into two groups--one to corner walk and one to drive. They also bended the rules and allowed many drivers who missed the first day autocross to run with us! That really pissed me off. If you screwed up and missed your event...tough sh*t! On top of that, there were some people who squeezed in and had two drivers! Really unfair! Those misfits also ran early in the day so they got to do all three of their runs. The autox had some sad news surrounding it. Apparently, a dude in a 318ti with R1s came in too hot and overshot one turn, turned in hard to compensate, the two outside tires gripped really well causing the car to lift the other two wheels...the car flipped and landed on the side and slid after which it slid onto the grass....caught...and rolled three times! The structure held up well, the driver was unharmed... That caused a 1.5 hour delay. The last run group saw some guy have his E36M3 breakdown on the course. The dude thought he could fix his car on the track. Everyone just stood there watching and scratching their heads. People started yelling at the guy to get his car off the track. Apparently, the dude had a trailer but refused to take the car off the track. This caused a 45 min - 1 hour delay, pushing the event past its 5:30pm end time where the last run group was unable to complete all three runs. Oh well, gotta pack and get ready to leave tomorrow morning! ttyl, Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I'm just catching up on digests after returning from O-Fest... sorry if this thread has already played out. This is exactly what Tom Milner and the M brand manager said at the Motorsports dinner last night. The engine produces 440 hp, but they need 480 to be competitive. I don't see much more headroom in that motor. Milner and the M division boys went on and on about how they wanted to kick the Porsches off the podium next year. The writing on the wall seems to be that there will be a V-8 M3 in order to achieve the power levels needed to win. I think this was clearly hinted at several times during the speeches given after dinner. Aside from that, the new M brand manager (who's name escapes me after a week of partying and a long drive home) doesn't really seem to get it. His big news for next year is that the headliner for the M5 will be revised to include colors that are more "sporty" and "performance oriented." Give me a freakin' break! There were shouts from the E30 M3 crowd during his presentation asking for another "real' M car. Pretty embarrassing if you ask me. M now officially stands for marketing. Of course, M _always_ stood for marketing if you think about it... you think BMW as a corporation raced cars in the 80's for the pure joy of it? It just seems the direction is tilted more and more towards the marketing aspect rather than the "soul" of the car. When he called the E46 M3 the best M3 ever, you could have heard a pin drop. It was supposed to be an applause line. I know the E30 guys were gagging. Boris Said did rave about the E46 M3 saying that the M5 was "nothing" compared to the new M3 and that this car will be amazing. Maybe there's hope yet... And Milner spent the week avoiding me. <g> -- Ron Katona
