#4. Bav Auto Recyclers? - from Michael Bird

Date: Sun, 15 Oct 2000 22:09:35 -0400 From: "Michael Bird" <MJBird@bellsouth.net> Subject: Bav Auto Recyclers? I am posting this to help a fellow BMW CCA member. He contacted me because I am an area coordinator in NC, and he was hoping that I could help. I'm posting this here in the hopes that someone here can help. He ordered a transmission and catalytic converter from Bavarian Auto Recyclers in California, and after a few weeks when they couldn't get him the proper tranny, he requested a refund. They refunded him the $300 odd dollars for the cat but nothing for the transmission. Repeated calls by him go un-returned, and he is very frustrated. They still owe him around $1100 so he is understandably upset. What I am asking from you all is: - is this normal behavior for this company? - if not, do you know the owner or manager that I could contact on this guy's behalf? - any suggestions? Many thanks. Please reply privately so that we don't clutter up the digest with "stuff". Michael

#5. Brake Warning Light - from Wayne Miller
Top
Date: Sun, 15 Oct 2000 22:37:05 -0400 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: Brake Warning Light I had my brake warning light on the dash go on the other day. It will not go off and I can't figure out why. It is the circle with what looks like 2 drum brake shoes on the outside. I looked in the manual and it says to check the brakes immediately. I checked when putting on my autocross tires and all 4 sets of pads had more than 1/2 (closer to 3/4) of their life left. The sensor wire thingy on the right rear was fine but the one on the left front was frayed in a few places and the end piece is a bit chewed up on one side but I didn't see anything touching that shouldn't be. I took it off completely and the light stayed on. I even checked the brake lights and they are all fine. Any ideas? -Wayne

#8. Quick Tire Survey - from Thomas E. Tice
Top
Date: Sun, 15 Oct 2000 11:44:05 -0400 From: "Thomas E. Tice" <tetice@worldnet.att.net> Subject: Quick Tire Survey Hi Gang, I'm in the market for a new set of street only tires for the M3. Since I'm scrubbing a fair amount of cash away in track tires, I would like to spend a few less dollars on street tires. So was the strategy of the previous owner and that hasn't worked out too well but I still have hope that there are some decent tires available for a moderate amount of cash. To help with my decision I would like to take a poll or survey of your experiences with street tires. The tire rack has something like this on their website but I can't help but believe the results are tainted by the wide range of cars and owners that provide the feedback - the Firestones may handle quite well on the Oldsmobile but that has little relevance to an M3. This list has the most relevant experience and I'd like to compile that for our collective benefit. So I would appreciate input via a PRIVATE e-mail to me (i.e. Please DO NOT clutter the list with the replies). I will compile the responses in a week or so and share with the list. Thanks for your inputs, Tom Tice '98 M3/4 - recent passenger comment "damn these tires are louder than my Jeep" '99 540/6 SURVEY INSTRUCTIONS Please state your Brand and Specific Model of tire and rate 1(bad) to 10 (good) in the following categories: 1) Dry Grip (stickyness) 2) Turn In Crispness (i.e. sidewall stiffness) 3) Wet handling (resistance to hydroplaning) 4) Noise when new 5) Noise near end of life 6) Grip in Snow/Ice (where applicable) 7) Expected life (in miles not 1 to 10) Comments? My example and first data point: Pirelli P7000 Supersport (235/40/17 all around) 1) Dry Grip - 6 2) Turn In Crispness - 7 3) Wet handling - 8 4) Noise when new- 5 5) Noise near end of life - 1 6) Grip in Snow/Ice - 3 7) Expected Mileage - 25K Comments: Unbearable noise after about 10K miles due to "scalloping" - suspension stock, alignment fine

#10. Greetings from Hawaii! - from Chester Wong

Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 02:51:01 -0700 (PDT) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: Greetings from Hawaii! Hi guys. Just thought I'd say hi. Just finished up a wonderful time in Maui and am on Kauai right now. There was one black E36 M3 that I spotted during the 6 days we were there. The only other E36 M3 I saw was a white sedan sitting on the used car parking lot =( There were quite a few E30 3 series there (I think I caught a glimpse of one E30 M3). I also saw a nice 740i Sport there filling up on gas ($2.32 or so per gallon for the 93 octane stuff). By far, the best road that I've ever driven (I drove it once before 3 years ago) is the road to/from Hana on the southern side of Maui. Twisting, winding roads with lots of elevation changes, off-camber turns, wow-wee! I managed to scare my girlfriend a few times. Man, I miss my car....wish it was there with me =) As it were, I was driving the rental Chevy Cavilier (sp?). Man, what a POS! Warped front rotors (from previous rentees going down mountains in drive, using the brakes to slow the cars decent), wimpy four cylinder engine, tires that squeal when taking a turn at 20mph...blah! I forgot what body roll felt like until I got into this car. Man, I really miss my car! Take a look: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=838931&a=6097316&p=30800213&Sequence=0&res=high Now I'm driving a Pontiac Fire-POS (forgot the name). It's basically the same car as the chevy with an even uglier front fascia! Bleh! Man, if I had the $$$$, I'd rent a Ferrari! =) More pictures to come...just didn't want to upload at 28.8 kbps...yuk! ttyl, Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
