Go to the dealer and buy a new bulb (a few cents probably). Then, 1) pull off all 4 knobs 2) using a philips screwdriver, remove the 2 screws and pull off the facia 3) grab the bulb with the tip of your fingers and pull straight out 4) if the new bulb came in a socket, separate the bulb from the socket 5) push the new bulb into the socket at the AC controls 6) reinstall the facia and knobs Nick '95 M3 > Howdy folks, > > I've lost the dash lights for the rotary blower control, rotary temperature > control (both passenger and drive side) and rotary control for air distribution on > my 95 M3. They (Bekker's) were offering them for $375 + $75 at OFest. Perhaps you could make up some sad story and still get the OFest price. Ask for Mark. #7. ECIS Intake -- What an experience - from Bora Akyol
Top
Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 20:01:15 -0700 From: Bora Akyol <akyol@pluris.com> Subject: ECIS Intake -- What an experience I want to preface the following by saying that I do not want to start a flame war here, the following are my opinions reflecting on my experiences with this intake setup. Picked up the intake at my local sales guy (Dynospot racing). I saw two E30 M3s there while I was there. Cool. Opened box, checked contents. Thought the shield looked kind of flimsy, but everything including the instructions were there. First alert: "Loosen the bolts that hold the charcoal canister and zip tie the charcoal canister" is part of the instructions. I should have stopped right there and left everyting in the box. Of course, being the thickheaded guy that I am, I proceeded with the installation. It took me less than 2 minutes to get the factory box out of the way. Then spent another 5 minutes removing the bolts for the charcoal canister. Then did a trial fit of the ECIS shield. It doesn't quite fit and I am getting kind of worried about the sharp edge of this metal (tin I think) rubbing against the headlight wiring harness as I try. I almost had it right twice, but the rubber airbox support gromet would not go into place quite well. So I spent the next 45 minutes trying to bend this .... shield into place. Finally, I gave up and put everything back together. The rest of the kit looked OK, but you get what you pay for. Half the price and half the fit of the Jim C intake. The main reason that I wanted to try the ECIS on was that it was a temporary fix while I put away enough money for the full Euro HFM Jim C setup. I may give it another try tonight, but maybe I wont. Note that I consider myself to be an average mechanic: I have put on exhaust systems, various intakes, etc before. This was definitely a case of poor manufacturing and fit in my opinion. Bora

The road to Hana is the most fun I have ever had while driving a car on a public road. The trick is to get as small and light a car as possible from the rental fleet. In those days, the car of choice was the every studlee Toyota Tercel EZ (rubber floor mats, 12 valves, not even a rear deck behind the back seat. I was kind of young a stupid then, but boy was it fun. I passed everything on the road, rental, local, you name it. The most fun was picking up the two hitch hikers on the way back. My girlfriend was used to and comfortable with my driving by that time, so she just had the usual "where are you from, how do you like Hawaii" conversation with them, while I was sliding around the turns. They finally totally freaked when I passed a Lincoln on what they thought was a blind turn. It was a blind turn, however, by watching the road on the switch backs, I could be 100% sure no one was coming (there were no side roads in the area) GREAT ROAD! Jim

Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 22:42:59 -0700 From: Bora Akyol <akyol@pluris.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] ECIS Intake <Take 2> So after spending another 1.5 hours on the install, I am glad to get it in and actually go in for a test drive at 10PM. To be fair, I had missed one crucial instruction that said: "Remove the rubber gromet and reinstall because we don't really know how to cut a hole in the right location" I am glad that the shield material was flexible enough to get it through without breaking it. I had to take the rubber gromet that supports the box out (poor hole location) and then reinstall it per the instructions but at least I did not have to loosen the charcoal canister this time. I did a short test drive on 85 southbound. I would have to say that it does add HP to the car. The car used to pick up after 4K rpms, now it picks up around 2500 and really goes after 4K. The sound will take some getting used to. There is definitely more power with this intake vs stock. The heat shield seems to be working well too, the intake side of the shield was quite cool after the test drive whereas the engine side was hot. My next item will probably be ordering an ITG Maxogen (same as Jim C intake) for my ECIS to create a hybrid, I can not stand how ugly that huge cone looks. Patience and multiple tries pay off I guess, if you are short on patience however, I would highly recommend the Jim C kit. This kit is definitely for people who like to tinker/drill/dremel etc. YMMV, Bora Akyol Bora Akyol wrote: > Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 20:01:15 -0700 > From: Bora Akyol <akyol@pluris.com> > Subject: ECIS Intake -- What an experience > > I want to preface the following by saying that I do not want to start a flame > war here, the following are my opinions reflecting on my experiences with this > intake setup. > > Picked up the intake at my local sales guy (Dynospot racing). I should have stopped right there and left everyting in >the >box. i have no idea about the fit and finish of the ECIS intake. but... the euro HFM kit i have (just the HFM, not even the whole jim c intake) has those same instructions. and i had to do it to get the thing to fit. so... having to move the canister is pretty common, and not necessarily an indication of something that's not gonna fit. the other things you mention seem to indicate poor fit, but not the moving of the charcoal canister. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I have added the chrome door pins, handbrake button & the BMW Stainless Steel gear knob. I am now looking to do something with my pedals and door handles, preferably in stainless or aluminium. Any ideas?? BTW. A while ago I posted re. my broken sunroof, well the good news is that Webasto fixed it for the equivalent of $40, while BMW's quote was for $800!
