It's not an unusual excuse...there are almost as many BMW special tools as there are parts! It really kind of overwhelming. I once had the TSB for "Hard to Engage/Disengage 3rd/4th" or whatever implemented. My dealer did not have the special tool for that and had to order it (that was back in '96). If I were a dealership I would not order every tool spec'ed out in the Repair Instructions until it was called for, lest 1) tool costs bankrupt you 2) storage costs for the tools bankrupt you (tools rust, disappear, have to be inventoried in the service "tool crib") Remember that if they buy too many infrequently used tools, then it takes TOO LONG to find the frequently used ones! The tool crib attendant can sometimes be a BIG bottleneck to repair speed, and you want to make that person productive! Some of these 1st-time repair issues I suspect that are just starting to crop up on aging E36's are going to force dealers to buy more tools. It's not unusual then that they don't have some of them until now. Recommendation: Have access to a copy of the "Repair Instructions" CD-ROM because it will most always tell you if you need a special tool to complete a job. Better to know before you start it (or even whether you should attempt it). > However, they can't do the swap just yet because they're missing the tool. > Is this a bunch of B.S.? S.A. said they had to order it to Germany and they > should have the tool here in two weeks...(???) #2. Idle Speed Problem on 95 M3 - from Bora Akyol

Date: Wed, 18 Oct 2000 20:15:27 -0700 From: Bora Akyol <akyol@pluris.com> Subject: Idle Speed Problem on 95 M3 I am having an intermittent problem with idle speed. The problem started after installing ECIS intake and Jim C. chip. When I come to a full stop the idle speed drops momentarily below 500 rpms, then bounces up to 600 or so where it idles fine. The same thing happens when I am stopped and give it gas. The behavior is observed only when the car is at up to operating temperature. Any ideas? Thanks Bora

It is normal :-) Mine will bounce from 200 rpm up to 800 rpm and back down. But it has never died. How long have you had your M3? It is just one of the quirks of our M3's. I've never heard of anybody's engine dying due to the surging. I can't see any harm in it. JimC has explained the reason. Basically, the DME is trying to adjust the fuel mixture for emissions and it over shoots the mark and yoyo's back and forth. My M3 has done it on the stock chip, Dinan chip, and now my JimC chip. It might have occurred less often with the stock chip but it doesn't occur that often with the JimC chip. Lowell Seaton '95 M3/2 Dallas, Texas.

These cold pressures should put you at 39 or 40 hot which is the optimum hot pressure range for G-Force R-1's. Bob Biggs parm3@home.com

#7. E46 M3 wheels... - from Ben Liaw

#8. E36 tranny mounts - from daanesh chanduwadia

My 2nd-3rd shift is the most affected, I occassionally miss and go to 5th. I'm not interested in the 320i mounts or UUC tranny mount enforcers, I am looking for a more potent solution. Noise translated to the cabin is not too big a factor, unless it rattles my teeth out of my head. The car is a daily driver. Everything I've heard about the JTD brace has been good. I'm just wondering if anyone out there has had any negative experiences regarding fit, finish, performance, etc. on this piece. You may respond privately if you wish. Thanks in advance.
