#4. e46 m3 - on the cover of Autoweek - from George M. Kofman

Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2000 12:32:56 -0500 From: "George M. Kofman" <sdg2@execpc.com> Subject: e46 m3 - on the cover of Autoweek the new M3 is on the cover of this week's issue of Autoweek. Got it last night and read it. twice. 19" wheel option is available in Euro only. BMWNA thinnks that americans will find the ride to be too harsh on bumpy roads. I guess if you live in Chi town or Boston :-) composite brakes (Euro rotors) not available - Americans will rather sacrifice a little "non fade" than to put up with the extra noise. makes total sense to me - who needs friggen brakes anyways ? they just make you go slow (lol) 6 sp manual is the only trans choice available. SMG will be available as an option (My option!) the engine is slightly detuned (5-10hp) to accomodate the cat further upstreat because of DOT regulations. Euro cars have the cat further down streat. less heat, thus can have more HP. american version has to be detuned in order not to burn out the cat. us version will have cup holders ! it's a friggen heavy car - 3400+ # w/o gas. hauls ass though. Start seeing them here after New Year ! Happy new year! YMMV GMK '97 ///M3/4

#6. E46M3 is a Porker - from Jenine5151@aol.com

Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2000 13:48:07 EDT From: Jenine5151@aol.com Subject: E46M3 is a Porker We just got the new M3 brochures at work and looking at the manufactures specifications I am extremely dissapointed with the M3. It list the unladen weight as 3415lbs! This thing is a porker! My T2 E36 M3 with full interior, stock drivers seat and full steel rollcage weights under 3000lbs. I had my name on the first E46 M3 to come into the dealership but have cancelled my order. I was going to buy one to race in SCCA T1 but this car in its current form would get its ass kicked, for the same price I could buy a Corvette Z06 or Mustang Cobra R that would kill the E46 M3. I now have my name on the first E46 M3 "Sport", Lightweight or GT, whatever you want to call it, I just hope it is at least 250-300 pounds lighter. Looking at the standard equipment and options table I can see why this car weights so much, just about every electronic gizmo imaginable is standard on this car, I hate to see what a fully loaded car weights in at (3500-3600 pounds!). It is dissapointing to see that BMW is getting even further away from the spirit and idea of the M3 and making it more into a luxo barge. I just hope they come out with a true lightweight. Looks like TC Kline's and Turner's product lines overlap a bit... on camber paltes that is... In looking at the TC Kline's rear trailing arm bushings, they are $400 on "special." is there a less expensive solution, or am I asking the "wrong" question ? Most of the car rags I have read say that this easily out handles the E36. A lot of this has to do with the MUCH stiffer chassis and that newly designed ///M rear differential. Don't bash it before you try it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. #10. Oil and Tire Pressures - from Daniel

Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2000 12:47:24 -0700 (PDT) From: Daniel <m3_driver@yahoo.com> Subject: Oil and Tire Pressures Dear Listers, Is there a preference for Redline 10w30 or 10w40 motor oil for year round street performance? Also, when BMW claims a almost 50/50 weight balance, does this mean that the amount of pressure exerted by each wheel/tire against the ground is equal to each other? Which means that if running same size wheels and tires in all 4 corners that tire pressure should be the same or close to the same...yes? Kolaitis" <chrisjnk@ix.netcom.com> Subject: E36 M3 Sway bar brackets Hello All, I have recently received the following information regarding sway bar bracket reinforcement and thought it would be of useful information to pass on to you. Suzy has given her OK to post it for Jay Morris. Please be sure to respond directly to Mr. Jay Morris, his email address is: TFRM3@aol.com <mailto:TFRM3@aol.com> The sell price of $1.98 can't be beat and might be one of the lowest coat items for your M3. Take Care, Chris, Windy City Chapter 97 M3/4 Dinan daily driver ---- Original Message ----- From: < <mailto:TFRM3@aol.com> TFRM3@aol.com> To: < <mailto:chrisjnk@ix.netcom.com> chrisjnk@ix.netcom.com> Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2000 10:58 AM Subject: can you put this on suzy's list please? if this guy wants a faxed picture I need to do it by tomorrow. Thanks very much. Jay Morris. Message as follows, in all it's glory: "Any chance JT Designs or anyone else has made a stronger bracket or does anyone have suggestions as to something that I can do to rememdy this?" I have complete front M3 sway bar brackets that I have made to my spec for racecars. They are 3/16 steel, bent for more coilover clearance, laser cut with a 3/8 hole for a rod end. I have rarely found them necessary on a street car. Check to make sure your endlinks are installed on the correct side (inside) of the strut. The rear braces I make from 0.140 steel cut at an angle, I can fax you an outline drawing if you want or you can get the special Suzy discount. BMW aftermarket supplier pricing structure as follows:List price: $44, Racer Net $22, Suzy list discount -90% is $2.20. Add 50% because I race cars, subtract 40% because I forgot to name this company after myself. Your net cost: rear $1.98 per pair plus shipping. Okay, since I don't contribute that often you will now somehow learn what kind of person I really am by what cars I own, in the BMW list tradition: 1953 Buick Skylark convertible 1969 Camaro Pace Car convertible 1969 Buick GS 400 convertible plus some others not made in the US Now for my favorite saying that I didn't make up: "Entropy has us outnumbered" I coined this gem, under circumstances best left alone: "Good manners are the K-Y Jelly of social intercourse" Jay Morris, Ground Control Suspension (ground-control.com)

(meaning the rpms dropped lower, and surged higher) it's possible you always had this problem but dind't notice it because the effect was smaller? also... i never had a "cool air intake". and since i noticed my problem more in cool days, maybe the cool air intake you have is making it happen more? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
