#5. Noisy Belts - from shane.a.kleinpeter@ac.com
Top
Date: Thu, 26 Oct 2000 13:29:26 -0400 From: shane.a.kleinpeter@ac.com Subject: Noisy Belts Hi all, Back from Hawaii and having some small problems with the M3. I'd noticed several weeks ago that the belts were getting noisy (sounded like a flock of canaries were under the hood), so yesterday on the way home from the airport I stopped by the dealer and got a new serpentine belt and a new AC belt. Got home and swapped them out after removing the airbox and the fan, as well as the fan shroud. Anyway, fired it up and the canaries are still there. What gives? I did not see any way to adjust belt tension, since that job is handled by the tensioners. Bentley Manual did not provide any means of tensioning the belts, but did say that improper belt tension would cause noise. FWIW the old belts looked fine, and have about 50K miles on them to my knowledge (bought the car with 38K miles). Any experience with this? Thanks. Had a Chrysler Sebring convertible which is going to need some new front tires soon : )

It exists, can be used, but I am not keeping it up to date. I do have my own Cobalt RaQ server now (co-located), and will look into automating the updates to it, but that won't be until next year - working on another project full time. So there I was, changing a flat tire (btw, the compact spare sucked!) on a VERY busy street during rush hour in Paris... > slight downhill I got that 320d up to 122mph. Really... I managed to reach (slowly) just a bit shy of 220kph (~130mph) on A3 & A7 in Germany. Man do I wish I had my M3 with me then... It's funny how when I got home & started driving my M3, it felt like it had no power steering & no suspension compared to my E46 320d rental car... #10. E36 M3 Wicker Bells - from Ben Liaw
Top
Date: Thu, 26 Oct 2000 20:54:22 -0400 From: "Ben Liaw" <ben@shortshifter.com> Subject: E36 M3 Wicker Bells for those interested, we've posted some pictures of the BMW Motorsport "Wicker Bells" designed for the GT/LTW wing. these were mentioned in the M3 GT Supplimental Guide that i found in the glovebox of my M3 GT, but without part numbers indicated. after much searching, i found them. these factory pieces are slightly different in length (one is about 1.5" shorter than the other), one for the top wing and one for the bottom. not entirely sure how much extra downforce they provide, but sort of cool that they were made available from BMW Motorsport (the parts are NLA). because of their shape, they don't fit the factory US wings. see pictures on the Bambislayer page (last ones at the bottom) at: http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_project/bambislayer/index.html they've got such a small profile, i find it difficult to believe they provided much more downforce (other than the additional weight they already add to the trunk area), but perhaps BMW Motorsport believed they do more than they would appear. what ever its worth. ben liaw ------------------------------------------- ben liaw - ben@shortshifter.com http://www.uucmotorwerks.com
