#1. front end rattle - from shane.a.kleinpeter@ac.com

Date: Wed, 1 Nov 2000 14:15:57 -0500 From: shane.a.kleinpeter@ac.com Subject: "front end rattle" I would suggest you replace the anti-roll bar end links first before you start looking at things like worn shocks or mounts. I have gone though enough of these that I have started ordering extras to have in the garage the next time. That goes for my 535is and well as my M3. Call Steve D'G and have him send you a couple, because if you get them at the dealer you'll pay way too much. You can swap them both out in less than half an hour. It helps to jack up the whole front of the car rather than doing one side at a time. HTH. Shane Kleinpeter Tarheel Chapter '96 M3 '88 535is >My 95M3 has developed a rattle in what I believe is the front suspension. >It is only heard when driving over imperfections in the road such as >reflective lane dividers >as used in California. What should I expect. Worn shock mounts wheel bearings. >Am I in danger of anything breaking. Nothing seems loose under their.

#3. Brake Circuit Warning Light - from Robert Jackowitz
Top
Date: Wed, 1 Nov 2000 14:16:42 -0500 From: Robert Jackowitz <RJackowitz@HARVPART.COM> Subject: Brake Circuit Warning Light Has anyone experienced a "Brake Circuit Failure" warning light? I received it a few days ago. A yellow light in the instrument panel as well as the "check control" system message alerted me to the failure, just after starting the car. Restarting the car cleared the warning lights. The owner's manual says that we have two such circuits, but only one is needed for brake operation. The dealer will look at it on Friday...just curious to see if anyone else had experienced this. Thanks, Rob '97

#4. camber plates - from RFKoby@aol.com

Date: Wed, 01 Nov 2000 14:49:15 EST From: RFKoby@aol.com Subject: camber plates Ed, Dinan makes 2 versions of fixed camber plates for the 95 M3. There is the mild camber plate which adds 5/8 negative, and there is the wild camber plate which adds 1-1/2 negative. These yield about 2-1/2 and 3-1/2 negative respectively. I have made custom fixed camber plates similar to these that yield the following settings: 2, 2-1/2, and 3 negative. there is also version 2 that yields 2-1/3, 3, and 3-2/3 negative. which every setting you use, always set your front toe to ZERO to avoid tire wear. I have no problems with tire wear, or highway tracking with 3.5 negative. This is actual experience from doing 11+ track events per year. Next time you see me at a Windy City event, I will show you the set up. bob -------------------- 5 -------------------- Date: Wed, 1 Nov 2000 09:07:03 -0800 (PST) From: Ed Tang <etangf1@yahoo.com> Subject: Dinan camber plates/Bilstein I have decided to replace my worn down stock dampers with Bilsteins and H&R springs. I would like to get non-adjustable camber plates and Dinan is the only one I'm looking at. I'm not worried about inside tire wear and I don't want to worry about the adjustable ones. I'm not going to rotate the cup for 0.1 degree of camber. Are there alternatives to the Dinan? And if anyone has the Dinan setup, how is the steering response? TIA Ed Tang 95 Cosmos M3

After first checking the lug nuts as advised by Jonathan, I'd look for worn out front swaybar links or loose link nuts. Very common. However they tend to make a sound I'd describe as a clunk rather than a rattle. To check for internal play in the swaybar links themselves you need to unbolt one end. Neil 96 M3 - BTDT

#7. Good Vendor / Service - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Wed, 1 Nov 2000 15:02:43 -0500 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: Good Vendor / Service We all know there is a lot of complaining with poor vendors (and I have had my share) but I wanted to comment on my experiences with three excellent experiences recently: - Koala Motorsport (http://www.koalamotorsport.com - Brett Anderson) I recently had some fairly significant work done on my E36M3 (valve springs, retainers, keepers, spark plugs, UUC tranny mount enforcer and 320i mounts, and compression check). This work was planned for preventative maintenance purposes (due to potential overrev) and to upgrade to the improved parts. All of this work was done on the agreed upon schedule and delivery date in order to ensure the car was ready for Mid-Ohio this past weekend. Not only was the work performed in an excellent fashion, but Brett was tolerant of my inquiries on the progress and other numerous questions. Lastly, the price on the labor and parts, as always, was very fair and much less than if had gone to the dealer. Anyone in NE Ohio (or anyone willing to get their car to NE Ohio), please look up Brett when your car needs to be fix/repaired or maintained (Inspection I or II). - UUC Motorwerks (http://www.uucmotorwerks.com - Rob Levinson and company) I recently ordered the UUC tranny mount enforcer and 320i mounts in order to improve the shifting of my stock shifter. UUC was very good at following up my questions and messages, thoroughly explaining the pros and cons of their UUC tranny mount enforcer and 320i mounts versus other tranny mount enforcements. - Ultimate Garage (http://www.ultimategarage.com - Steve D'Gerolamo) I recently ordered various maintenance parts and tools and they arrived in a timely fashion and the price was right. Steve was very good at following up my questions and messages. That is all folks. No affiliation to the above mentioned people or companies other than being a satisfied customer. Regards, Rich Dorffer - 95 M3
