#1. Eibach Sway Bar GP Update - from robuc@bellsouth.net
Top
Date: Thu, 02 Nov 2000 01:01:34 -0500 From: robuc@bellsouth.net Subject: Eibach Sway Bar GP Update Hello folks, Unfortunately, the Eibach container from Germany with the E36 M3 sway bars has again been pushed back, the new expected delivery date is now November 22nd. In my last conversation with them (Eibach) I was "guaranteed" delivery in the second week of this month, and that's what I told you all. This new delivery date is supposedly confirmed, but so was the last one, so all we can do is wait and see. When the container hits the country I will be notified by Eibach, at which time I will contact all of you who have been patiently waiting on these to confirm your interest. Once again I have to apologize on behalf of Eibach (which I am really getting tired of) and again thank you for your patience and understanding of my situation. I will let you all know if anything changes or if I hear any news from Eibach regarding delivery of this order. Thanks again, Rob Buckalew -- Top Notch Auto Accessories, Inc. 2865 N. Date: Thu, 02 Nov 2000 08:54:41 EST From: "Mike Tse" <phid_bombadier@hotmail.com> Subject: re: Brake Circuit Warning Light This is a common intermittent problem on the E36 cars. I just had this happen on my 328is and my M3... It's the Brake light switch actuated by your brake pedal. Something about a bad batch from the factory as I recall. Got the part from Steve D (www.ultimategarage.com). The R&R took about 10 minutes. Remove your drivers side kick panel (two screws to the left and right of your steering column. You'll see the switch right above your brake pedal. Black housing red and white button. Size of a large pack of chewing gum. (roughly) Once you figure out the locking mechanism it's really easy to swap out. You'll need to use one hand to press down on the brake while you release the locking mechanism. As well as replacing.... Picture of the switch part: ---- ------- white button will need to also be pulled out a bit || Don't worry, it will come out more if you just tug ||||--------Red collar needs to be pulled all the way out ^ |||| |^^| ------When red collar is free of housing, the locking tabs ------------- can easily be pressed in and housing removed. | | |4 conductor| | | Install is reverse...Make sure you press on the brake pedal while replacing or else the collar/tab locking system won't work properly and the switch may fall out!! Hope this helps! --- Mike Tse 95 M3 -Bone Stock- 96 328is Silvr/Gry USS/ERK -Sharked w/CAI- ***FOR SALE*** BMWCCA NJ _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Peter, Is the ICIS intake still available? Including all the hardware, hoses, K&N filter, etc? If so, please confirm that it's has the 3.5" pipe and I want it. I am in Dallas, TX, so shipping would be required. thanks, alex

#8. New to the list! - from Mark Radelow

Date: Thu, 02 Nov 2000 16:39:35 GMT From: "Mark Radelow" <radelow@hotmail.com> Subject: New to the list! Hi everyone, my name is Mark Radelow and I just joined the list. I bought a 95 M3 (stick, 45k miles, artic silver, LTW rims, etc. etc.) three weeks ago and am just so in love with the car. I came from a 97 VW Jetta VR6. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself, I live in San Diego so if any of you live near me let me know! I do have one question. I have heard a lot about the Euro HFM. It appears to be a European spec MAF which is larger than the US one. What kind of gains are you seeing with this mod combined with the ECIS (I don't usually trust tuner dyno's so I would like some real world examples). Anyway, thanks and hello again to all of you. #9. camber shims - from Burgess, Kim L

Date: Thu, 2 Nov 2000 08:56:28 -0800 From: "Burgess, Kim L" <Kim.Burgess@PSS.Boeing.com> Subject: camber shims The following are re-post from other list members.....my hope his they don't mind the plagiarism From: RFKoby@aol.com Subject: Camber shims Feel free to forward this to the list(s). FYI, I can put together "kits" of bolts and washer for those that are interested in going this route. folks, I came up with that chart for shims and camber. If you use 7/16" SAE flat washers, they usually come around 0.040" thick. Each one washer you place on each bottom strut bolt will yield approximately an ADDITIONAL 1/2 degree negative. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Adjustment/Shim size ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 0.5 - 1.16 1.0 - 2.63 1.5 - 4.00 2.0 - 5.44 2.5 - 6.81 Yes, I know it is non-linear. I got the data points from someone else (I can't remember who) when I did the mod myself. I found it to be accurate within the range I was using (2.5 - 4 mm) You can use as many as you like, as long as you use the proper bolts (grade & length). Torque these grade 8.8 (or better) to 80 ft-lbs. When using LOTS of washers for lots of camber, make sure you check the tire & rim clearance to the strut and spring perch. A few MM is all you need for clearance, if it gets too close, call the TireRack for some hub spacers. Also, when using the washers, this will change the front toe. The front will TOE-OUT. For each washer that you add, an approx. 1/8 turn on the toe-adjusters for each side will bring the toe-in close enough for you to drive to an alignment shop to get it measured correctly. bob FYI - I have designed custom camber plates for the 1995 E36 M3. It is a fixed camber plate that is used between the OEM strut bearing and the strut tower. These plates are BMW CCA Club Racing LEGAL for stock class. The plates are also adjustable in that they have 3 sets of holes, that will approximately yield the following settings: ~2.4, ~3.0, ~3.6 negative ____________________________ - Get bolts that are long enough (at least size of old bolt plus shim size) Where to get it: - Easy way = Call Korman and spend $20 for $10 of hardware - you will get what they sell (4mm shims, and longer bolts, if I remember) - Hard way = Call Steve D'G and specify what you want - That way you can correct for uneven camber from the factory. Disclaimer - You do it, you kill yourself, your problem. YMMV. Feel free to supercede any of the above with whatever a real mechanic tells you. Hope that helps, John Jones 98 M3-4 (w/ fixed camber plates, the ultimate fix) > humbly edited and submitted for the above KLBurgess 99M3/2
