Yes, it should be done unless the gaskets on the RSM's are clean and in good shape. Generally, I think they are used to keep dirt and water from entering through the wheel well opening. Reading through the docs they suggest replacing the "gasket" before installing new RSMs. Anyone know the PN for this ? should this be done ? #5. Front undertray replacement - from Steve Sharp
Top
Date: Thu, 02 Nov 2000 10:17:18 -0800 From: Steve Sharp <steve.sharp@xilinx.com> Subject: Front undertray replacement I had my front plastic undertray fall off while driving down the freeway the other day. Sounds like this is a common failure, especially if you drag the undertray over a parking barrier or two. Mine looks like the mounting "ears" where it bolts up to the car have fractured off. A replacement is only $85 at the local dealer. Is there anything tricky about getting it fastened back in place? Steve Sharp '97 M3/2

I personally recommend that you look at replacing it permanently with A JTD underfairing. The BMW parts are virtual junk. You will also need to remove the pork chops/triangles b/c the snap onto the center section. Also don't forget to put the air diffuser back into the new center panel. If I remember correctly the nuts are 13mm. HTH. In my mind the real highlight of the show was meeting the people. While I didn't talk to Jim Conforti, I did talk for quite a while with Will Turner and Don Salama. Let me tell you, I was impressed with how nice and O R D I N A R Y guys they were. I also talked to a woman who I *assume* might have been Will's mother. She was very gracious and informative about Will's formative years :) Bottom line: I'm a total butthead of a human being and I was very impressed. A great deal of my rather large annual parts budget is likely to suddenly consolidate into Turner Motorsports. Sure I'll still bargain hard with them on a few items I haven't bought there in the past because I thought the price was a little high, but I'm a Turner convert. Take it for what it's worth from an outspoken, miserly cheapskate.
