I'll have to look at it tonight and report back. i don't know about older V1s. but the one i bought one a month ago has a light sensor and it dims as the light level lowers. (and it dims too much ;-) and there's no way to shut it off even. you're stuck with it dimming when you go into a tunnel. ;-( that is, of course, unless you're a really anal electrical engineer and you modify the thing so that it either don't dim at all, or dims the amount you want. ;-) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Date: Fri, 03 Nov 2000 09:47:39 -0800 From: Bora Akyol <akyol@pluris.com> Subject: M3 PING SURVEY I have had 6 replies in private to me that told me that their cars also ping/sizzle. I would like to do an informal survey and publish the results to the list or on my website. So please answer the following questions and reply to me off-list but please put M3 PING SURVEY on the subject of the email. --------------------------- Does your car ping? Does it ping under full throttle? Does it ping under partial throttle or idle/neutral? What year is your car? Do you have an aftermarket chip/software reprogram? If so, what is the chip brand? What type of gas do you use (RFG/RFGII/Non-RFG), what octane, what gas station? Do you have a manual or automatic transmission? Any remarks? ------------------------------- Thanks in advance Bora

The dash >lights >seem to be controlled manually. let me try to make you feel better. when i first got the V1 it was for my S4 (sorry for using the "A" word again). i thought that the V1 dimmed and the S4 dash didn't. so i took apart the V1, spent a day or two figuring how to make it not dim, soldered it up, and put it back together. i drove around that day and felt really good about myself. that night i discovered, to my horror, that the S4 dash DOES dim with low light. (but not very much) and now my V1 was too bright. so i had to take it all back apart, discover how to perform the MUCH HARDER task of dimming, but only a certain amount, and re-solder the thing, and put it all back together. all because i'd never noticed that the S4 dash dims... _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. #7. Valentine One Does Auto Dim - from Dorffer, Rich
Top
Date: Fri, 3 Nov 2000 13:09:16 -0500 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: Valentine One Does Auto Dim No offense Sean but I feel the self dimming feature on the V1 is just about right for me. I wonder if it varies some (the amount of change) depending on when you bought it?!? Speaking of the photo cell located at the 165 mph mark on the speedometer, the photo cell for the V1 is located near the center of it's face and is visible. I have manipulated it with a flashlight before. You may notice the V1 brightens when someone is riding your tail and their lights are shining through your rear window. Regards, Rich

#8. Help: remanufactured parts being used for warranty repair - from Olin, Jason (NIMH)
Top
Date: Fri, 3 Nov 2000 13:20:08 -0500 From: "Olin, Jason (NIMH)" <jolin@mail.nih.gov> Subject: Help: remanufactured parts being used for warranty repair The gauges on my dash a few months ago were intermittently going dead. I brought the car in for service this past week. At the dealership they decided to order a new console because they couldn't find the fault. The part is BM62-11-2-497-711 RMFD CLUSTER. My question is this: can they put in a remanufactured part as a warranty repair item? If I demand a new part will they put it in? Should I get BMWNA involved? Should I skip doing the replacement, given that the problem hasn't resurfaced? Thanks in advance! Jason Olin NIMH '97 M3 Cosmos Black 2-Dr 45K Mi

I have a 1/95 production M3 that definitely does NOT have EWS. It has the EWS ring around the ignition keyhole, but I was told at the parts dept that it was a 'dummy EWS ring'. Go figure. Anyway, just another data point. Every now and then (about monthly), they'll send you a notice that Club members get an additional 10% off including sale items. November 5-11 is the next promotional period, but if you join today, it'll take a couple weeks to get your card so you'll miss this one. I hope someone can benefit from this. It helped me when I needed to buy a 1 13/16" (46.03mm) 3/4" drive socket, breaker bar, 3-armed puller and torque wrench to replace a wheel bearing. Patrick Sarne 1995 M3 <--maintained by Craftsman and proud of it!
