#4. Re[2]: [E36M3] Mods - from Andrej Dolenc

Date: Tue, 7 Nov 2000 20:30:36 -0500 From: Andrej Dolenc <adolenc@erols.com> Subject: Re[2]: [E36M3] Mods I think the european drivers side mirror is a little better than the stock glass. Bora, I know exactly what you're talking about, properly adjusted mirrors. On a long road trip last fall the other driver couldn't use the mirrors adjusted as far out as I had em. Mine were that way for a long time, and I felt all along that the M3 mirrors were adequate. But for $70, I was willing to try out the Euro convex drivers side mirror. It does work a little better, though it's not a night and day difference. I find that it did not eliminate the blind spot 2 lanes over, so I still end up turning my head to check. But it was worthwhile, it does allow you to see more of what's going on behind you. So here's a notable bargain in the normally pricey > world of BMW upgrades. Well worth it for that finishing touch. I have Stygar's shortshifter and clutch pedal... last night, I put in UUC's big boy clutch stop and, even with it screwed all the way in, I couldn't get the car into first or reverse. Maybe it's only my stupid car. It's the same car that the UUC exhaust didn't (and still doesn't) fit straight on. -kit 97 m3 that doesn't get along with UUC parts for some reason :(

I find it ironic that we even love to extol the wonderful sound our cars make, and install exhausts which admittedly have little effect on hp (unless induction is forced), and then install high priced stereo units, which we have to turn to exhorbitant volume levels just to hear over our highpriced exhausts! In my case, I just made an appointment to install the Kenwood Excelon X501F 4X75 watt amp, to power my Polk speakers up front, and stealthboxes in back....One of the reasons is I like to hear my stereo over my exhaust...But I also have the supercharger....Now I find out that my stereo will be robbing my power gains? What gives....We M3 owners are sure a contradictory breed! _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3; <25000 mi; Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger; Stygar Short Shift Kit and clutch stop; Skaags pedals

Might be possible, but I think it's a losing proposition. I just can't imagine that you won't disturb the eccentric adjustment at the hub where the lower salad tong attaches during replacement. That's where the camber adjustment is... can't see lucking out with all the tolerances and R&R of the part itself. Might be able to buy a cheap camber gauge, take a baseline measurement, then adjust back to that setting since the adjustment bolt will be already be loosened from the install. If you can get camber back to the original setting, toe shouldn't have changed. -- Ron Katona

#9. OBC display? - from Peter Fanning

Date: Tue, 07 Nov 2000 18:45:47 -0800 From: Peter Fanning <pfanning@premier1.net> Subject: OBC display? The OBC display in our '98 M3/4 has started to fade. This is the check control/temp computer, not the full OBC. Some of the display lines have begun to disappear. There seem to be more lines illuminated as the display warms up. Is there some way to fix this or do you have to replace the whole unit? I remember a discussion about this about a year ago but (of course) didn't keep the information, my search of the archives didn't find anything. The Bentley manual doesn't have any information either. TIA, Peter Fanning
