This is the large nut that adjusts the length of the horizontal bar. It is larger than 28 mm and 1 1/8 inch. But smaller than 30 mm. Is it 29 mm? That seems like a very odd size. How are they in standing water > for say the trip up to the track? I have been running these on my MZ3 for track events this summer. Overall, I think they are a good compromise track tire that I can comfortably drive to/from the track. I do not have much experience with them in the rain on the street, so it is hard for me to compare them to street tires in those conditions. However, I did have the experience of driving on a very cold (~40F) and wet (but no standing water) track this fall, and it appeared that EVERYONE had better traction than I did. It was almost like driving on snow -- wheelspin at part throttle at 2000RPM in 3rd, wheelspin at 80 MPH, loop-da-loops into the grass, not the most fun I have ever had on the track. My brother, driving his highly modified Vette on full-tread Kumhos, had MUCH more traction. Now, the caveats: the car is stock, as in no additional camber. This was the end of the season, as in the tread was nearly worn off the outside half of the front tires (However, two days later, the same tires worked great on the same track when it was 50F and dry...). Finally, I do not claim to be an expert when it comes to tire pressures and their effect on performance. A pressure of ~40PSI front and back (hot) has worked well for me in the past with these tires. Since the tires never got hot, I left them at ~36 front and 34 rear. One man's experience, others may have different views. Regards, Mike Metzler '99 MZ3

Last night my check engine light came on. I read it using the peake tool (that thing is pretty cool to have), it's saying that the oxygen sensor for cyl bank 4-6 response time is low (I assume it needs changing) and the catalyst efficiency cyl bank 1-6 below threshold. Now, the second one is what confuse me, does it mean my catalytic converter is shot? The car got about 49k miles on it. What's happening? They are great in the rain, provided that you have FULL tread. I started this year autocrossing and road courses in R compounds. As you know, you can drive them on the street. When it rained, they were flawless, with full tread. I actually ran the first road event with light rain and it held up very well. On the other hand, after two road courses, I went to a downpouring autocross at a kart track and the car was twitchy. As the season went on and the wear increased, I came back from an event when it rained and the outsides of the front tires were pretty worn which didn't wick the water away so effectively. As long as you have the rain grooves intact, you will be fine. If the water can't be channelled, drive cautiously. First, I think your air pressure is waaay high for these tires. On the street E36 (stock + x-brace) I had them at 30lbs all around and got center wear on the rears. Now I run them at 25-27 lbs. They feel squirmy but there's much more grip. On the track E30, I ran 23lbs cold and was happy with wet and dry performance at Sears Point (that's why I put a set on the street car). I just switched to Toyo RA-1s last month when I couldn't get Yoks in time. The Toyos have better dry grip; haven't run in the wet yet. My caveat: The Yoks do harden with heat-cycling. The street car is stepping out a lot even though there is quite a bit of tread showing. I don't think I'd drive to tracks more than a couple of hours away on them. Then again, these are the same people who run slicks for dry tires. My comment would be as follows. it all depends..... depends on: 1) how much thread do your A032R's have ? if in the wear bars and it's raining, you've got problems. 2) what are the outside temps ? R-compound tires need higher temps than street tires. they also need to be brought up to operating temp, where street tires do not. 3) what are your alternatives ? (IMO MXX3 is not a good wet tire, especially if in the wear bars) In my case, YokoOno AVS Sport is an awesome wet and excellent dry street tire. A032R is an awesome dry tire. especially when in the wear bars :-) I did a track event last month in ~45 degree temps, and I ran STREET tires (AVS Sport). No problem. Especially when it was wet. But since it did not rain alot, and the sun was out sometimes, so perhaps I could have gotten away with A032Rs. but my decision was based on: 1) operating temperatures and 2) rain/snow forecast (don't laugh). Wouldn't you know it - they cancelled our last session on day#2 because there was ice forming in the Caurosel (Road America). Yeah, slicks would have been fun. > How are they in standing water for say the trip up to the track? depends. how much thread do they have vs. MXX3 ? > > Thanks for your feedback. You're welcome.
