#2. HP to Weight - from jim mihal

Date: Thu, 09 Nov 2000 21:58:05 -0800 From: jim mihal <jmihal@jt-designs.com> Subject: HP to Weight fwiw- I seem to remember Yoshumura Suzuki (in the 80's) saying that for every 7 lbs. of weight you remove, it's "like" adding 1 horse power. I don't know how the weight reduction affected the torque. I'd suspect that weight is less of an issue with torque than it is with horsepower. Obviously, weight doesn't help acceleration, cornering speeds, or reduce braking distance. Any comments welcome. Jim Mihal

And I certainly did not send them at 9:00 am. It is kind of late for gremlins, Halloween is over. I'm trying this new AOL 6.0. That may be my problem. I know several of my recent posts have looked horrible. Thanks for the replies. Lowell Seaton '95 M3/2 Dallas, Texas

Besides searching thru all the local autopart stores, is there a good place on the web or via catalogs to order the following fluids: Brake Fluid - ATE Blue Transmission Oil - Redline D4ATF Diff Oil - Redline 75/90 TIA, Steve m3steve@earthlink.net P.S. After reading the Roundel article and picking up a brochure at the dealer, I've found myself looking at snow-tire sizes for the new E46 M3, "just in case." (I don't even have a spot in line yet.)

Date: Fri, 10 Nov 2000 10:08:54 -0500 From: Robert_Manger@mastercard.com Subject: bumper respray fellow car nuts, I am about to get my rear bumper resprayed or replaced thanks to someone else deciding that I needed to have the worked on this past Monday on my way to work. No real damage except to the paint and a couple of gouges in the plastic of the bumper. So while the car is getting done I am going to have the front bumper done as well to get rid of those awful stonechips. Has anyone had any experiences with the clear film that can be put on the car to protect from future chips? I have seen that there are numerous companies out there offering it, which has the best fit is my question? Rob-95M3 with someone elses paint

#8. S50 compression ratio - from daanesh chanduwadia

Date: Fri, 10 Nov 2000 15:15:05 GMT From: "daanesh chanduwadia" <daanesh@hotmail.com> Subject: S50 compression ratio the 95 M3 service bulletin once listed on Suzy's site listed the S50's compression ratio as 10.8:1. (And someone recently mentioned that the S50 head was milled differently according to Josh at Eurosport.) There are lots of differences, but the extra .3:1 vs. the later models might be a large part of the 95-specific tendency towards slight ping. daanesh 95 M3 no ping since cam timing was corrected as partof VANOS rebuild _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I got just one because I don't like super strong bass, but I want it to hit the notes. Thanks for any input! Oh yeah and does anyone know off the top of there head if a 9/94 M3 has a returnable fuel pump system. Thanks Milo 95 M3

My HK system weights alot. The numerous speakers, the amp, the wiring, the CDR. My comment about 1-2 HP was tongue-n-cheek. HOWEVER, if you unload the vehicle of 20# (or more) worth of ballast, you will improve weight to HP ratio and thus gain acceleration and speed. If a mechanical engineer on this digest wants to do some calculations on the effect of a 20# loss for the bone-stock M3 on acceleration and how it relates to HP "gain," I am all eyes. Same is true for lighter wheels, fiberglass or carbon skin (fenders/hood), no sound insulation, no SR, no AC, etc. In a true sports car, WEIGHT = BAD. Hence Lotus Elise, Caterham 7, etc. Since our M3s are not true sports cars but "sports sedans," it's more of a moot point. However, the logic stands. That's *all* I was trying to say. GMK '97 MMM/4 (waaaaay heavy, yet way fun) PS The horse is dead. no need to beat it.
