I wanted to get a baseline with my totally stock engine before I did any mods (I'm planning the usual intake/SW/exhaust this winter). The numbers were: Max power: 204.2 @ 6000 Max torque: 219.2 @ 4250<< Good strong, and mostly normal stock numbers ...The base car can dyno in a range anywhere from the mid 190s up to the mid 220s. I think your torque/hp balance is a little unusual though. >>0-60: 5.96 seconds (required a shift to third - more on that below)...235/40/17 AO32R's instead of my 245/40/17 street tires and the smaller diameter tires forced me to shift into third to get to 60 mph. << If your car is stock, then I'd be surprised if the stock tire size were to get you over 60 as well. BMW says the max you'll do at redline in second is 58 mph, as supported by the gearing stats. In order to finish 0-60 in second you need to install some aftermarket software to raise your revlimiter to 7K rpms. My friend with stock software and an ecis intake ran a best of 5.6 with stock software...after is Shark Injector, he ran a best of 5.1. Eliminating your second to third gear shift should reduce your current 5.9 to approx 5.4 or so, give or take, such is the time it takes to accomplish the shift. >>Heat and consecutive runs didn't seem to effect the engine's output at all, which speaks to the durability and ruggedness of the M3 I6. << I bet had you tried this on a hot summer day, things might have been a little different...I assure you that the M3 is no more immune to heat soak then is any other performance car. >>. The guys with the dyno said many engines they test, especially turbos and supercharged ones, but also many pony cars, suffer quite a bit because of heat. << I can certainly vouch for that. It feels like the car loses up to 50 hp during the months of July and August. True, its more pronounced on the supercharged cars, but na models are effected also. _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3 <25000 mi Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger; Stygar Short Shift kit and Clutch Stop; Skaggs Pedals; X-brace; Sound by Kenwood Excelon, Polk, JL Audio

I enjoyed the same experience going with M Double Spoke II's (8.5x17) and BBS RC's (8.5x18) -- noticeable difference going to the RC's as well as going back to the Double Spoke II's (for a couple of weeks -- another story). Like Rob, I'm very happy with the results. I have the one w/ the kidney pontiac grand prix'esque kidney grills. I'd like to cut out all that plastic in the middle and replace it w/ a metallic screen like you see on race cars. Anyone got any ideas on where i can get that stuff? Thanks In Advance! Eugene Han 97 m3/2 alpine white with a front undertray that's about to fall off.

Don't know the weight, but two things to think about: 1. Many composite hoods don't work with the factory hinge system. They are often held in place with say 4 hood pins at the corners (as-in racing setup). Don't forget to ask specifics before you buy. 2. My guess is that the CF won't crinkle and absorb those Joules of energy in a collision like a steel hood. So, if you rear end something (by someone pushing you into a truck in a 3-way sandwich, I know you wouldn't hit anything on your own! :) ) then you might be seeing the hitch of a truck sooner than later. - Skip ClassiGuy3@aol.com wrote: > > Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2000 17:16:01 EST > From: ClassiGuy3@aol.com > Subject: how heavy is a stock hood from the dealer.. > > wanted t oknow because im thinking on installing a carbon fiber on for 800 > bucks..only weighs 11 lbs!! > > Leo > 95m3 > > ************************************************************* > List Commands > UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. > *************************************************************

#6. E46 Compared to E36 - from david tow
Top
Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2000 19:47:38 PST From: "david tow" <david_tow@hotmail.com> Subject: E46 Compared to E36 Jay, I really don't know what they were talking about in the magazine, but I am aware that most of the auto journalists somewhere else thought otherwise. Car and Driver previewed the car, and the author was almost in tears after driving the E46 M3. He complained that the car's handling was worse than the E36 due to the E46's understeering problems. He also pointed out that the steering feel of the new car was too light. Auto Motor und Sport had the similar impression of the new car, and claimed that the E46 in general is not quite as communicative as the E36. Hey, I am happy with my E36. David Tow ------------- Date: Fri, 10 Nov 2000 08:27:43 -0700 From: jay@pactitle.com (Jay) Subject: Roundel article Have any of you members of the bmwcc opened up the latest issue of Roundel and read about the almighty e46M3. Sure it's a great car. But they make are e36M3s sound as though they were just built to give them time to build the real thing. They mention that are cars lacked the driving pleasure of the e30s. In fact I don't think one nice thing was said about are beloved e36M3s. For once in my life I'm glad I can't afford something. I would hate to part with my 95 jc chipped and intaked M3. And with two kids entering college I'll probably drive it until it turns to dust, enjoying every minute of it. On my car, it was a nice sharp piece of metal....covered with cosmoline all over....yeck. What I did was to un-snap the hydraulic lines like you did and loosen the one bolt holding that bracket. It is just plain stuck in place because of cosmoline, oxidation, etc. One side is hinged and you have to pivot the whole bracket. Once you get the bracket pivoted out, it then releases.
