It would not turn-on at all about 3/4 of the time, the rest of the time it will turn on and then off and on and so on....during use. I checked all the fuses, everything is good. Any suggestion? Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 09:12:41 -0500 From: Paul Tsaliagos <ptsaliagos@mediamap.com> Subject: HELP! stereo issues Hi guys/gals. My '98 M3/4 with the HK stereo system is on the fritz. Last night the radio was emitting a high pitched whine. If the Hi-Fi switch is on, the stereo does not have volume. If I shut off the Hi-Fi, the volume works, but the high pitched whine is there. No changes have been made to the stereo. This morning the whine disappeared after a while, but the Hi-Fi does not work. Paul Tsaliagos MediaMap Technical Support 617-583-1424W 617-335-9154C

#3. CD Changer troubleshooting help needed - from Barrett Nicholas
Top
Date: 14 Nov 00 09:44:34 CST From: Barrett Nicholas <barrett.nicholas@usa.net> Subject: CD Changer troubleshooting help needed My CD changer died - an Alpine 5 uint in my 2/95 e36. Does anyone have any troubleshooting experience or information for said unit? Is there a repair manual that covers it? I've disassembled it, and it appears that the mechanism that pushes the tab on the cartridge to eject the cd to where the rollers will pull it into the player mechanism is either broken or out of synch - something's not happening. I can manually turn the gears that eject the cd and see the mechanism work, but there's a part of the gear where it doesn't have any teeth. I can see that it's that way by design, it's not like it's stripped or anything, and there's also a small strip of spring steel that interacts with the gear, but I can't tell how or what controls it. I have a couple digital pictures of the mechanism in question if there's someone who'd like to look at it. thanks, Barrett ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1

#4. A032's in the Rain - from Robert Jackowitz
Top
Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 11:13:36 -0500 From: Robert Jackowitz <RJackowitz@HARVPART.COM> Subject: A032's in the Rain Just thought I'd report back to the group and share my experiences of last weekend. I received over two dozen words of wisdom as to whether Yokohama A032's would work in the cold rain at Lime Rock last Friday, as opposed to running stock MXX3s. The votes for A032s and MXX3's were split fairly evenly (even after two re-counts) with some saying that A032s worked great in the rain, while others saying that traction, hydroplaning and the cold temps would greatly limit the performance of the yok's. Having suffered through using MXX3's in a past rainy track day, I finally decided to take my chances with the yok's and drove up on them Thursday night. I figured I bought the yok's because not only do they make a good intermediate R-compound tire, but they are supposed to be a club-racer's tire of choice in the wet. This would give me a perfect opportunity to try them out. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. The relatively new yok's performed effortlessly. They were smooth and very predictable in the wet, with only the rears breaking loose if I accelerated too abruptly out of a corner. Hydroplaning was not an issue, even at 90+mph down the front straight through standing water. There were a many spins and agricultural excursions that day, but none by me :-) On three separate occasions, the car I was behind and pressuring to pass spun off in mid-turn. Interestingly enough, these cars were an AWD Mitsu Eclispe, a VW GTI, and an AWD Audi A6 (twice), all running street tires. Rob

When were the first E36M3s produced (i.e. what year)? How long after the introduction of the normal E36s did they produce the M3 variant? How soon after the introduction of the E36M3 did they become competitive and dominate its class? Now look at fast the E46M3 is being rushed to the market. It's funny how all the PTG drivers are touting the E46M3 as a no-compromise sports car whereas the E36M3 was more of a compromise. ...and now all the new engines are blowing up. Sure, it would be nice to be the first on the block with the E46M3, but I for one will be waiting until they work out the kinks and reliability is proven. The only benefit the '95 M3 has over the later model ones was the OBDI. With the E46M3, it's a moot point. I think that there can only be good things in the future with improvements. Heck, maybe I won't even get a E46M3 when the time comes.... FWIW, Chester > about the almighty e46M3. Sure it's a great car. But they make are e36M3s > sound as though they were just built to give them time to build the real > thing. > They mention that are cars lacked the driving pleasure of the e30s. > In fact I don't think one nice thing was said about are beloved e36M3s. ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? #9. Clutch noise - from mauricio.wiesner@us.pwcglobal.com

Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 15:14:49 -0500 From: <mauricio.wiesner@us.pwcglobal.com> Subject: Clutch noise I recenlty got a new flywheel, clutch and pilot bearing for my E36 M3 and now I'm I'm getting a "chatter" each and every time I let off the gas and shift at 4k+ RPMs. Does this go away after time? The chatter feels like I'm going over tiny little speed bumps, and goes away once I gas again in a diff't gear. It's more noticeable in 3rd to 5th gears. Anyone have any idea what this could be about? I took my car to the dealer who installed it, but they don't think anything's wrong. My car also has a JTD Tranny Brace, RS SS kit and a bunch of other new BMW bolts and bearings. You should definately join the BMWCCA (www.bmwccca.org)--the benefits far outway the costs. The local club will help you get setup in a school they sponsor and other club activities. I went to a Bluegrass school at Putnam Park in June and had a blast. As far as driver's schools, they tend to be a full weekend, cost anywhere from $200-350+, depending on the club/track and usually involve some travel. I probably have averaged about 200 miles each way to the schools I've done over the years. "Go For" a school, preferably with the BMW club (as oppossed to other marques)--you'll learn more about you bad habits, your car and its/yours abilities that you can imagine. Worth every penny. Just be careful--get hooked, and it will consume every penny... John 95M3 "Ice9" - wounded > Ed wrote: > > >Where do I find a school in my area. I live in > >Louisville, Ky.
