I have the option of using the wider wheels on the front since I need 4 new wheels for my car, also will this affect tire balance? Additionally I would like to here from some of you what roll bar you guy's would recommend, and which camber plates you guys would recommend.. Thanks Bill Horlacher

Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 18:55:28 -0500 From: Bob Stommel <rstommel@iquest.net> Subject: Driving schools near Kentucky The Hoosier Chapter runs a driving school at Putnam Park (40 minutes west of Indianapolis) every April and the Bluegrass Chapter runs one there every June. Putnam Park is about a 3-hour drive from Louisville. Watch the Roundel and the BMW CCA web site in December and January for details. These schools sell out during the first day of registration so make sure you postmark your registration on the opening day. For the most part, yes. Depending on the tire, you might get a small bit of rubbing on the strut tube (my Pilot Sports polish a small spot on the tube nicely :-)). We'll see how the new Yoko AVS Sports work out in the next day or so. Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - with 8.5" Contours all around

However I have the same size tires all the way around 235's even though the rear rims are wider than the front. Anyway, have it back to normal now. The main thing is which tire are you going to use? Tires with a very square shoulder will have rubbing issues if you go with a 245/40R17. Tires that are more rounded will fit. Dave Ngo runs BFG KD 245/40s all around and he had rubbing issues (ever so slightly). Maybe if he ran 235/40s all around, he would have clearance. Should keep ya' busy for the year. --jeff Hoosier Chapter Chief Instructor

#10. 255/40/17's and/or 17x9" rims on front?? - from vernon@sprynet.com
Top
Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 21:24:58 -0500 From: vernon@sprynet.com Subject: 255/40/17's and/or 17x9" rims on front?? I need some advice and experience from the group: 1. Can you fit a 255/40/17 tire in the front of an E36M3 (such as a Yoko AO32R)? 2. Can you fit a 17x9" rim in the front with a 255/40/17 (or a 245/40/17 for that matter)? I'd like to get 2 sets of forged rims for next track and autox season and dump three sets of my OEM rims. The two rims I've been looking at are the SSR Integrals and the IFG's. For auto-x, I use 245/40/17 Hoosier A3S03's, so I can probably run four 17x8's for that without a problem. For the track, however, I'd love to squeeze 255/40/17 Yoko's all around. (I know there are much grippier tires out there, but I've become partial to the Yoko's friendliness and durability.) I would really prefer to keep the same rim and tire size all around to allow rotation. I fear that a 17x9 with a 255/40 won't fit in the front. I may be relegated to running that in the rear and use 235/40/17's on 17x8 in the front and give up the rotation. My car has coilovers and I usually run about -2.75 degrees of camber in the front. I'm rolling the rear fenders next month. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Vern Anderson 98 M3/2 - baby needs bigger and lighter shoes....
