Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2000 08:08:05 -0500 From: "Ward, Chris" <CWard@ContractLumber.com> Subject: Power steering leak I have had the same problem with my car. I took it to Passan Motorsports in Columbus,Ohio and they had a crimping tool for high pressure hoses. It leaked worse after the crimping job. In the end I replaced the hoses myself for $210.00 and 3 hours of work.(time cut in half if you have a lift) Chris Ward 95 M3 (just getting ready to fix my bent exhaust valves) -------------------- 5 -------------------- Date: Thu, 16 Nov 2000 15:25:14 -0800 From: Roger Baker <rbaker@velodyne.com> Subject: Re: Power steering leak and new tires Have you tried just replacing the factory clamps??? The E36's all seem to leak like crazy from these hoses until you replace the factory non-adjustable clamps with some real clamps.

Marc, I did it that way once, and trust me it close enough to impossible that I've never wanted to try it again. The only reason it would be useful would be for on-car replacement without having to open the brake line. Unfortunately it really would be impossible with the caliper still plumbed. Neil 96 M3

When I called the dealer to schedule a appt they said "I bet you have about 35,000 miles on it". When I said no, actually 18,000 they were very surprised. Is there any cost for this inspection or is that inspection 2? Thanks, Will 99 M3

#7. Bevery Hills BMW scum - from Andy Chi

Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2000 11:51:33 -0800 (PST) From: Andy Chi <m3flyer@yahoo.com> Subject: Bevery Hills BMW scum Rob, I don't know if your post was sarcastic or not, but the last time I had paid work done on my car (clutch job), I got a free 323 loaner from Savage BMW. Beverly Hills BMW royally messed up my car, and Allen Cohen doesn't know his a** from the hole on the ground, actually, neither does that bald guy. They forgot to close an open loop when they replaced my main wiring harness (which caused the frigging wiper blade to only work on high mode) not to mention it took the incompetent part guys there 5 weeks to get the parts. I had to tell them how to do their job (Savage BMW could have gotten me my MXX3 in like, three days. Hell, all you had to do ws call Michellin for emergency tire release, and they didn't een know to do that. While Allen Cohen just sat on his butt for weeks). Let's see, they screwed up my console panel near the clutch pedal (stuff was hagning off of it) and I wasn't about to take it back therefore them todouble dip their mistake with BMWNA. The list goes on, and I wrote a long letter to Vic Doolan then. But now, I just travel the extra mile to Savage and not deal with those rude, incompetent dumb a**es. Too bad the drive from the westside is sooo far, but good dealers deserve to be rewarded with more business. And bad dealers need to have their names published. #10. tranny fluid change and warranty work - from Mdriver13@aol.com
Top
Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2000 17:25:54 EST From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: tranny fluid change and warranty work I've got a question. I was at my dealer yesterday for some warranty work and had them change the tranny fluid. Some time ago I bought two quarts of Redline MTL. Older but maybe no wiser, I checked the side of the trans and it said, "ATF ONLY!". So thinking the dealer might know best, I told them to use the MTL only if it's compatible with BMW recommendation. Well, to my surprise they used my Redline MTL. Now they had an opportunity to use BMW grade product and charge me a hefty price, but they didn't and the work order clearly stated 'only use customer's Redline MTL if OK.' My question is, anyone have experience using MTL in place of ATF? I can't tell the difference after two days of shifting gears here in cold PA. Will my gears or syncros? BTW: Had the starter, and driver side window motor replaced without a blink of an eye from my service manager. My M3 is a MY97 and they said both items are quite common.
