#1. 3.0 head on 3.2 block - from Jason Leung
Top
Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2000 14:51:52 -0600 From: Jason Leung <jleung20@flash.net> Subject: 3.0 head on 3.2 block Hey John, the answer to your question is yes. The M50/M50tu/S50US/S52US motor all have the same head casting. You might have to change the cam position sensor and some other tidbits (not sure, but I had to do so on my car) but your car should be much less work than my car. I have a 2.5 liter head (M50 - non vanos) on a 3.2 liter block. Then came custom cams, retrofit vanos onto my head (didn't have to), yadda yadda yadda cam sensor this, wiring that, but the answer is YES, you can do it. BTW the reason why I used my 2.5 liter non-vanos head is for the thicker valve stems and double valve springs, and plus, I wouldn't have to buy another head. #4. Wheel & Tire survery - from Peter Guagenti

Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2000 14:06:44 -0800 From: "Peter Guagenti" <peter@guagenti.com> Subject: Wheel & Tire survery With all of the back and forth we always got through as to what fits and what doesn't, I'm volunteering to take a tire survey. I'm only interested in hearing about two set-ups: - non-stock sizes on the front and/or rear, or - if you had tire fitment issues with stock tires on a modified suspension (I have minor fitment issues with my 235/40's running a lot of negative camber) Please let me know about both so I can inform the list. If you're interested in participating, write me an e-mail with the subject "Wheel & Tire Survey" and include the following info: - Tire Size (front/rear) - Wheels (size, brand, and offset if possible) - Spacers (none or size if used) - Suspension (stock or describe if non-stock) - Alignment settings (stock or describe if non-stock) - Clearance available (if known) - Modifications required to make this set-up fit (none or description of work performed) I will compile all of this into an Excel file and web site, including adding the true tire specs for each tire set-up (overall rolling diameter, section width, etc.). I will also add information about competition tires, including their specs (like why a Kumho 225/45 is actually a 235/40...). If there's anything else you'd like to see included, let me know in the e-mail and I'll do my best to add it. I'll e-mail everyone the results after completely compiled. Thanks! -peterg BTW -- while researching tires, I discovered that a lot of people running 245/40's without fitment issues are actually able to do so because their tires have about the same section width as a 235/40 (i.e, the section width of the Michelin Pilot Sport in 245/40 is 9.5" -- the same section width as the 235/40 Toyo's I run and the 235/40's from Kumho and Bridgestone).

Now BMW recommends 100,000 mile spark plug changes along with 15,000 mile oil changes and lifetime transmission oil!! Pretty soon these cars are going to last forever. Thanks to Jim Millet. Check out Ron Stygar's web page: http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/sparkplugchart.jpg I was just kidding about running spark plugs for the life of a car. LOL Huh! I only have 44,000 miles on my plugs. I've got another 56,000 miles to go. I better get busy driving. Happy Thanksgiving. Lowell Seaton '95 M3 Dallas, Texas

#7. Spark plugs and BMP prices - from LoweSeaton@aol.com
Top
Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2000 18:23:31 EST From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Spark plugs and BMP prices Jim, I noticed the price difference too. :) I'm bad. I picked the highest one out of all my catalogs - BMP, Bekkers, Rocky Mountain, Bavarian, .... for show. BMP was almost double all the others. But curiously, BMP was the lowest on the '95 M3 plug. If those $12 plugs are good for 100,000 miles, then I guess that is not so bad. BMP shipping is outrageous too. I live in Dallas, 90 miles from Tyler where BMP is located. I ordered their urethane sway bar bushings. They weighed less than 2 lbs. The shipping cost was $7.93 plus $0.66 labor!! And since I live in Texas, I pay state sales tax of another $6.59. I could almost have driven to Tyler and back for $8. They support our local chapter so I can't be too evil. We've been there for a couple of open houses. I got some good deals and lots of free stuff. One year I won 10 L of Lubromoly synthetic oil and a bunch of Lubromoly fuel additives and last year I won a set of H&R springs! Lowell Seaton '95 M3 Dallas

#8. E36M3 moved from ESP? Nope! - from Peter Guagenti

Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2000 15:37:55 -0800 From: "Peter Guagenti" <peter@guagenti.com> Subject: E36M3 moved from ESP? Nope! According to the SCCA's minutes published in "Fastrack News": "Proposals to move the BMW M3 from ESP to BSP or ASP have been tabled at this time, and no action is recommended. Comment: The SEB currently views these proposals as lacking firm technical foundation, and as being primarily based upon perceptions that certain types of cars in ESP should be 'protected'." I guess the SEB realized that the ///M's are just scaring the pony cars, and expect them to meet the challenge (as they've been doing in many regions)... -p

The bad news is hat I no longer have an M3. The good news is that after waiting for the last 2 years (and stil waiting) for the E46 M3 to be released, I broke down and bought an M5. It was a case of momentary lapse of reason while sitting there with my girlfriend as she signed the paperwork for her new 330Ci (what a beut too!) they were pulling a black on black M5 into the showroom.... Next thing I knew I was pulling it into my garage. I know a few other people have the E39 M5 on here and I have a bunch of questions so if someone could email me I would really appreciate it! jreiser@dataverse.com -Jon Now just the E39 M5
