My car feels much better... My car is a daily driver and I do get suck in bumper to bumper traffic every weekday for about 1 hour - I am sure this is accelerating the wear. Thanks for your help. I am planning on getting some suspension goodies and would like to find a good place that can install them and set my car up for combined autocross and street ride. Date: Thu, 23 Nov 2000 21:52:36 -0500 From: "Gary A. Preece" <gapreece@entreky.net> Subject: cone filter Hey guys and gals, I need some advice on what to do with the K&N cone filter that I am using instead of the stock air box on my 1995 M3. It is the one that BMP sells, but I do not have the $75 "heat shield". I have read that "fan wash" is the culprit not heat. Is it possible to fit only the "box" that is sold by Turner, etc.? I don't even know if I can buy just that part. Any advice would be appreciated. I do have the Jim C. chip since my build date was 11/94. Thanks. Gary Preece

#6. Crashed M3 - need advice - from Ted Telesky
Top
Date: Fri, 24 Nov 2000 01:05:19 -0500 From: Ted Telesky <TTelesky@compuserve.com> Subject: Crashed M3 - need advice Hi All, Well, I appear to be using the group a lot these last few months - after help with my brakes, my suspension and my smog test, I now have the painful task of asking about help with my crashed M3. Today, after Thanksgiving dinner, I decided to take the car for a mountain drive. I just got back from 2 week trip to China and wanted to enjoy the fine LA weather. I took a winding road (#23 to Fillmore for you LA types) and managed to run into a mountain - but this was better than going off the 200 foot cliff to my right. To make a long story short, I was keeping up with a C5 corvette in front of me... I guess those big 375 tires hold better than my 235,s or I was trying to catch up too fast... Anyway - spun out and hit the mountain to the left. No air bag so it wasn't that fast - but the front end is crushed, broken rims, crushed radiator, no idea about the engine... (I hope my insurance agent doesn't read this list...) So the question is - should I take it to a dealer, my mechanic who claims he will do a better job supervising the body work and repairs, or to a super deluxe body shop? I just want baby as good as new... Any suggests for a shop (any of the above) in the San Fernando Valley? Thanks a bunch - and Happy Thanksgiving... Ted

#9. ATP contours vs stock - from vincent.a.leo@us.arthurandersen.com
Top
Date: Fri, 24 Nov 2000 18:48:31 -0500 From: vincent.a.leo@us.arthurandersen.com Subject: ATP contours vs stock Anyone analyze the ATP contour rims in 17X8.5 vs stock M Contours in 17X8.5? Is the offset the same? weight? Are the ATP rims an "exact" copy (sans the little "///M" on one spoke) or a poor knock-off? I was thinking of running two of the ATP wheels with 2 stock 8.5 M Contours to give me 8.5's all way around. I have been offered a really good deal on 2 ATP contours in 17X8.5. Thoughts??? Please keep in mind, this is for street only. Track wheels are BBS. #10. JTD Rear Shock Mount Shuttle Concept - from jim mihal

Date: Fri, 24 Nov 2000 18:44:41 -0800 From: jim mihal <jmihal@jt-designs.com> Subject: JTD Rear Shock Mount Shuttle Concept The following information was posted to the E36M3 bimmer.org bias bulletin board, but found it to be removed promptly. I didn't know it was a conflict of interest? Has anyone else experienced such rudeness? to the point: for those interested, Our vendors have recently been informed that we will be supplying the "His" bushings from now on as "standard issue" and as a replacement for the discontinued "Hers" bushings. We are adding a track shuttle to our list of performance options that will supercede the original "His" bushings. The track shuttle will incorporate a spherical bearing to make our RSM truly unique, as well as a great track option. We have even more great shuttle options coming soon...keep your eyes out for them. the shuttle concept: The shuttle was designed to make the bushing replacement easier, due to the fact that you can remove it without removing the complete RSM, gasket, and interference nuts. This, however convenient, does not benefit anyone unless they cut a 2" hole in the carpet directly above the shuttle during the installation. There are several options to make this a sanitary modification, but I prefer to use a 2" round plastic body plug to cover the hole when finished. This plug just happens to be about the same size of the roundel that resides on early model wheels! That's how I thought our Rear Shock Mount design could be of benefit. Carpet removal, more than once, was not to be considered an option. Thanks to all of you for the continued support, and to Suzy for allowing this tip to remain posted! Jim Mihal JT Designs
