The German auto magazines test winter tires for general use, and I have a smattering of this year's reviews. With regards from John. '96 318is -- john.firestone@nord-com.net

#4. possible Xenon HID group purchase - from NickG

Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 15:12:18 -0500 From: "NickG" <nikog@MediaOne.net> Subject: possible Xenon HID group purchase Hey Gang, I found a Xenon HID conversion kit today, and was wondering if anybody was interested in participating in a group purchase. We would require a minimum of 10 sets, at a price of $525/set (plus shipping). What makes this kit different from the others is that the HID bulbs install directly into the factory headlight housing with no mods or adapters (or glue) whatsoever. They just screw in like a standard 9006 bulb. The ballasts are made by Hella. It's basicaly a plug and play system. I saw the kit installed today on a '95 M3 and it's the real thing. They also offer a kit for H1 bulbs (for those with the Euro headlamps), and every other bulb style for that matter. I haven't seen that kit yet, but I will shortly. If you're interested, send me an email so I can determine whether to set it up or not. Nick nikog@mediaone.net

#5. Recent M3 purchase: a couple of questions - from Carguymb@aol.com
Top
Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 18:46:51 EST From: Carguymb@aol.com Subject: Recent M3 purchase: a couple of questions I recently bought a nice '95 M3, with under 40k miles, really good condition, with only a couple of small issues. One of those is the battery, which seems to have/is leaking. There's some (limited) corrosion in the area under the battery, and a little more around the vent hose grommet, where the vent hose exits under the car behind the right rear wheel. I can clean it all up, but it leads me to wonder about putting an Optima back there, so I can forget about this being a problem again. Anybody else with an Optima (or one of the knockoffs)? Any issues with installation? Second question is regarding the headlight switch. Is it supposed to be back lit? Most (or all) of the other little icons on switches and controls are back lit, but this switch isn't. Do I have a bulb out, or is this the way it's supposed to be? TIA, Martin Bullen '95 M3 '97 Z3 2.8

#7. Car and Driver 50-70 passing test - from Bora Akyol

Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 19:38:42 -0800 From: Bora Akyol <akyol@pluris.com> Subject: Car and Driver 50-70 passing test I was reading old issues of C&D today and for a 95 M3 they list 7.6 seconds as the 50-70 time in top gear. I just did this test in my car and I see 9.2 seconds using the OBC timer. I know that this is not very accurate but was C&D smoking something? Before y'all say that my car is shot, I would like to note that it dynoed 2 months ago at 214 rear wheel HP. Let me know what you think. Bora Bora Akyol Pluris akyol@pluris.com

Not only is it too expensive, but its the wrong model number?! _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3 <25000 mi Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger; Stygar Short Shift kit and Clutch Stop; Skaggs Pedals; X-brace; Sound by Kenwood Excelon, Polk, JL Audio
