I just went out in the garage and looked at the dash illumination. When the key is in the second position (ON) the three headlight indicators (off, parking, & low beam) and the radio buttons are always illuminated regardless of whether the headlights are on or not. Hope this helps. Thanks for bringing up the battery corrosion to the list, I'll have to check that today too. Jeremy Lucas Delaware, Ohio (near Columbus)

I have done this test a number of times over the years and get equal or better results then C&D reported (actually, C&D tested several 95s...and at least one got 50-70s slighly better than the 7.6 you mention). A couple of notes however: you need to be on a very level road, you need to use a stopwatch, and you need to test close to standard atmospheric conditions. Also, when I do the test, I accelerate through 50, starting at about 45 mph....your not punching the throttle at 50 are you? Roger W. Graves RogRacer@aol.com '95 M3

I don't have any signs of corrosion in my 99 at all but my 92 318is aka 330 Supercharged had a problem there. The metal under the battery is very thin from the factory and the stress of some track miles weakened it (this car has rarely seen rain and never seen snow since at least 95). You could see light and water had started coming in. I had it welded shut, covered with sealant tar on the underside and a stainless steel battery tray put in.
