How much better is this xenon setup than the stock > low-beams? Who's makes the kit? I'm going to try and take some before and after pictures of the kit shortly. How much better it is than stock is going to be a personal opinion type of answer. I don't know the maker of the kit. The only parts included are a pair of bulbs, a pair of ballasts, and the corresponding wiring. The ballasts had Hella stickers on them. Nick

#2. Recent M3 purchase: a couple of questions - from Lew Becker

Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 14:25:12 -0800 From: "Lew Becker" <lmbeckercfls@earthlink.net> Subject: Recent M3 purchase: a couple of questions I put an Optima into my 97 M3/2 several months ago. I've had no problems with, and have been very pleased with all aspects of the Optima. The biggest "issue" is having to drill some sheetmetal (to directly bolt the battery into the car, using mounting holes that are already in the base of the battery) -- no biggie; if done right, the finished Optima installation looks like it came from the factory (which is how it should have -- the lack of a maintenance free battery coupled with having to deal with the consequences of running the cells dry/overfilling cells/etc. is BS in a car representing the leading edge in the M3's class). If you're interested in pursuing the Optima further and would like some specific installation "tips", let me know. #3. update on battery replacement - from Mdriver13@aol.com
Top
Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 17:35:32 EST From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: update on battery replacement To all: Well, it's been four years to the day and I just replaced the original battery. Uses the Interstate battery Ben Liaw posted info on some time ago. The battery has been upgraded and is now model # MTP-91 (group 91) with a 72 month warranty. Price is the same as $90.00 and it weighs the same at 39 lbs. I weighed the OEM at 47.5 pounds! Fits like the OEM. However, since the vent lip on this new battery is in the middle, toward the back, I attached a piece of tubing to the battery vent lip and then connected the tube to the OEM vent tube. The only problem I ran into was electronic in nature. Know your radio code, because when you turn on the radio it will ask for it. Punch in the code (on plastic card that came with my car), and presto, it works and all preset stations still in memory. For the onboard computer, you loss everything (in my opinion cheap...even my VCR retains more info during a power failure)! You must reset clock, date, speed limit signal, consump 1 and 2, avg. speed, etc. No problem with oil change and inspection LEDs. Just some FYI for you folks. #4. For Sale E36 M3 Brake Pads - from Rex Tener

Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 17:14:53 -0800 From: Rex Tener <rex_tener@yahoo.com> Subject: For Sale E36 M3 Brake Pads <SF Bay Area> I have a set of used brake pads for a E36 M3 for sale. They are the Pagid OEM pads for front and rear. They were bought new this summer from <http://www.ultimategarage.com/brakeprc.html> and installed on brand new rotors. Driven for 5K miles then taken off. The fronts have 13 mm, and the rears 10 mm of material left. I believe I paid around $80 for them. The first $40 takes them. I would prefer a Bay Area buyer, but if there is no local interest (SF Bay Area, I live in Sunnyvale and work in Downtown Palo Alto) I will ship at the buyer's expense. Paypal or cash only. #7. Rear Shock Mount R&R - from MDadgar@handspring.com

Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 20:24:54 -0800 From: MDadgar@handspring.com Subject: Rear Shock Mount R&R Thanks to those of you who gave advice on replacing the rear shock mounts (especially David Holeman and his instructions at racepad.com and Kit Wetzler). Did it today - much easier than I expected, with one caveat. My left shock mount had cracked about 2/3 of the way around the circumference. My right mount had failed completely and the center section had actually rotated. Complete trash. Yes, handling has been, shall we say, interesting lately. The caveat that I mentioned is as follows: the Snap-On CT350 cordless impact gun may be the coolest tool EVER. It made short work of the bolt at the bottom of the shock and removing the nut at the top of the shock where the mount attaches would have been near-impossible without it. If you don't have one of these things yet, I *highly* recommend you track down your local Snap-On sales guy, throw $350 at him, and take one home. The thing is just incredible. - Mark '95 M3 '97 528i 5-spd '88 M3, Hennarot ---- Mark Dadgar - Product Manager, Peripherals (650) 230-5037 voice - (650) 230-2100 fax mdadgar@handspring.com - Handspring, Inc. #8. Now maintain that battery! (was: Re: [E36M3] update on battery replacement) - from Chester Wong

Date: Mon, 27 Nov 2000 05:02:58 -0800 (PST) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: Now maintain that battery! (was: Re: [E36M3] update on battery replacement) Every now and then you come across a pearl of wisdom on the digests. One of them was from Skip Bogard a while ago. He shared info about the PowerPulse to condition the battery. http://www.pulsetech.com/ I bought the PowerPulse (as opposed to the Solargizer) because I drive my car often and a solar panel would be useless on the rear parcel shelf since I have window tint. What the PowerPulse does is draw some electricity from the battery and pulses it back to the battery. This forces the ions that settle on the lead plates back into the acid solution. So I recently checked the battery fluid level the other day. I remember when I installed the unit (it easily attached to the plastic covering next to the spare tire) I checked the metal tabs to see if the fluid covered it. It was blackish and rather dirty. Well, the other day I checked my father's E38 (doesn't have the battery conditioning technology). Those tabs were nice and black/brown and....bleh. I then checked my fluid level and saw that my tabs were CLEAN! The lead plates in the battery looked clean too! Granted, my battery is only 2 years old, but my car still turns over with no problems. Theoretically, the only time I have to replace my battery is if it cracks...let's hope that that doesn't happen. Only time will tell (what's the earliest someone has had a battery die on them?), but I think it's worth it. Thanks, Skip! No experience with either of these two waxes, but I'll relay what I know. A mustang buddy of mine uses the Zaino Bros wax and loves it. Not sure about the durability though. For longevity, One Grand Blitz Wax is supposed to be a very long lasting wax. http://www.carcareonline.com should carry it. (satisfied customer, no other relation). Andrej '97 M3
