The easiest and fastest way to get this p.i.t.a. out is to just break the plastic tabs and remove it - after all, you don't need to save it. Otherwise you'll go nuts trying to get it out of the bracket - ask me, I know. Kerry 95 M3 _____ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Shopping <http://shopping.yahoo.com/> - Thousands of Stores. Rebalancing both fronts did no good. Had to put my snow wheels on, and the problem diminished but did not go away. Thus, me thinks there may be a problem apart from the wheels/tires, but just before the wheel swap (new tires, orig. but scratched rims, same balancer) I had a smooth as glass ride. So it would be strange coincidence, or damage during wheel removal/replacement, if the problem is not in the wheels. A request for help to this list last month yielded nothing but deafening silence. I hope you have better luck. Keep us posted if you get off-list advice that turns out helpful. --------orig. message---------------------------- Date: Tue, 28 Nov 2000 09:25:26 -0500 From: "Olin, Jason (NIMH)" <jolin@mail.nih.gov> Subject: mild vibration at 65-75mph--alignment needed? The car's got a mild vibration that I feel primarily in the steering column that starts around 65mph and is noticeable through 75mph. It doesn't pull to either side. I've got MMX3's on that were recently balanced. The dealer said the vibration could be due to dent in the wheel, but there's nothing that noticeable to me. It was last given a 4 wheel alignment 2 years ago. Is it time for another one? Feel free to respond to me directly if you think this is irrelevant to the group.

(unless you count strut tower bars and xbraces as suspension) with -2 degrees camber my tires wore 100 times better and lots of understeer went away. i was perfectly content with that setup. a couple years later my stock shocks were dead, so i replaced them with konis. and if stock shocks weren't MORE expensive then konis i'd probably have stuck to the stock ones... so... if you decide to add camber plates to an otherwise stock suspension, you won't be the only one. ;-) _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. #6. Sumitomo question - from Anthony Le
Top
Date: Tue, 28 Nov 2000 12:59:01 -0600 From: Anthony Le <anthony.le@wcom.com> Subject: Sumitomo question I have the same problem, on all 4 tires. They were deep enough to blow the tires. I didn't know what could have caused it. I upgraded my suspension to Koni and Eibach springs at the same time so I don't know whether the problem is with the new suspension or not. I don't see any sign of rubbing. I think it's either underinflation or a defect in the tires. anthony 95 ///M3 -------------------- 5 -------------------- Date: Mon, 27 Nov 2000 21:00:34 -0500 From: Tom Anderson <anderson@netside.com> Subject: Sumitomo question Hi Gang, a friend of mine and I both have Sumitomo HTRZII 235/40-17's mounted on stock rims on our 95 M3's. Both sets have +/- 20K miles. Both sets have interesting grooves around the inside edge of several of the tires, as if they'd been placed on a lathe and grooved with a file. These grooves have the approximate radius of a dime. They did not appear until about 19K miles. Both of his rears are grooved and the right front has a groove also. My left rear has a groove around the entire circumference. The right rear has a deeper groove but around only 1/3 of the circumference. Two different alignment shops are clueless as to the cause. He has a stock suspension, I have Bilsteins/H&R installed when the tires had 18K on them. The tires have been kept balanced. We are puzzled and looking for answers/suggestions. Date: Tue, 28 Nov 2000 12:17:56 -0800 From: "Wentz, Don" <don.wentz@intel.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Adding Negative Camber Andrej, having read all the camber discussions over the past 6 months, and having tried a couple myself, here is my take (memory, don't fail me now!). 1) One very knowledgable discussee (Bob Tunnell?) pointed-out that if you have a 95 M3, you can install the stock 96+ Strut hats and gain appx 1/2 degree of neg camber, without any adverse other changes. 2) Many felt that swapping the strut hats was NOT a good solution. 3) The 'crash bolts' are a stock BMW part and give 1/2 degree or more, but I tried them and found them unreliable in track use. They slip. 4) Another very inexpensive method is a longer set of lower strut attach bolts and some thick hardened washers. I think you mentioned these as 'spacer method'. For under $30 you can get a set from Korman and try them. Extremely easy on-car installation, and, if they make your tires rub you're out $30, big deal. I am using them now, although with 1/2 thickness spacers. The caveat here is a) be SURE you get the toe-in set after installing them. and b) my 'experience' shows that you NEED more neg camber in the rear to go along with the camber in the front. Again, if you increase the neg camber in the rear using the built-in adjustment, you MUST get the toe adjusted to less toe-in, or the car will be un-drivable at speed, I mean SCARY. This is where I am now, using the spacers in front and the free adjusters in back. For the cost of the parts ($30) and a good alignment, you can have a significant positive neg camber experience. don __ __ 95 tiSport / / / / | / | Alpine White / / / / |/ | 95 M3 / / / / | Dakar Yellow /_/_/_/__/|__/|__|

I looked at a website and it will be open for lapping on saturday. Too snowy? 2 - Other than the BMW Museum, any other 'must see' places close? thx, dw 95 M3
