The stock '95 M3 front shocks are junk. I just replaced my shocks. That is another story I'll post later. How do you tell if your BMW shocks are shot? Easy. If you have more than 30,000 miles on them, they're shot. I got less than 44,000 miles out of my shocks. I can't believe the difference in handling. I was having all sorts of squirrelly handling the last few months. Now with NON-BMW shocks, it handles perfectly. Lowell Seaton '95 M3/2 BMW CCA #131505

Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2000 03:31:05 EST From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] tire wear and camber Dan, Oh yeah! You are going to get a lot more wear on the inside of the rear tires with your H&R race springs. You've lowered your M3 almost 2 inches. That caused your rear wheels to tilt in a bunch. You have a lot more negative camber than before. Stand back behind your M3 and look at the rear wheels. Notice how the rear wheels tilt in? That's negative camber. About all you can do is rotate your tires front to rear. That won't gain you much because your front tires are going to have plenty of negative camber too. If you really want to do something, you would have to swap the rear tires on the rim. Take the right rear tire off the rim and mount it on the left rear rim with the good tread on the inside. Do the same with the other tire. Lowell Seaton '95 M3/2 Dallas, Texas

I can tell you those are damn stiff shocks. They would make a paper clip spring feel solid. I just put new Bilstein's on my '95 M3. After 1,500 miles in 3 1/2 days, I think I am missing a couple of fillings. :) I'll post my impression of the Bilstein's later in the week. But honestly, I don't think you will notice any difference in ride with the H&R springs as long as you have Bilsteins. Lowell Seaton '95 M3/2 Dallas, Texas

(I'm looking at a picture of it in my Bavarian Autosport >>catalog.) The K-MAC plates have longer than normal studs anyway, because they have the reinforcement plate for the top. Since you have a strut tower brace, you must not be using the K-MAC piece. -Al

Date: 29 Nov 2000 07:07:43 -0800 From: dholeman@spooze.com Subject: Shock tower reinforcement One option that came up as an answer regarding my shock tower problem was to use the 96+ gasket and insert. The P/N for the ring is: Front Spring Strut Tower Reinforcement 31 31 248 9795 You'll also need the gasket: 31 33 109 4288. These will set you back about $20.00 for two sets. Too bad I didn't know about this earlier. Such a cheap insert may have prevented what will probably be a very expensive repair. David Holeman

I have mobil 1 in it now with only 600 miles on it. should I even bother and just dump it come spring since the oil is so new? Car has been in the shop that is why I ask Rob

Yes, they came with the car when I bought it. Just curious if anybody has had any rubbing problems in the rear. I had some slight rubbing after my track day back in October. The sidewall of both the rear tires had slight rubbing marks from the fender. It seems that the 8080E's seem to have a bit fatter shoulder than the usual stock michelin pilots.
