But with the amount of rear camber, even the factory setting, the rear tires will be scrubbing as you drive in a straight line. Too much toe in and the insides of the rear tires take a lot of abuse. I can't speak for anyone else, but most of my driving is in a straight line. I have a friend who had an M3 a while back who ran toe OUT in the rear for autocross, said it really helped the car turn. He was usually competing for FTD, so it must have worked. Come to think of it, he got rid of his M3 and got an S4, just like Sean... Eric 95 M3 00 Passat Wagon

My SA did not specify. He said it looked like it was corroded or melted down sort of.... Kept on going on and on as to how he's never seen it to this degree.... I will try to get the details later today when I call Concours. > If it was damaged insulation, I've seen that type of damage to wiring > harnesses on radar equipment I've worked on. I live in suburban Milwaukee, on a wooded lot. Right off a huge ravine. So, we have lots of mammals here. From deer to raccoons, mice, rabbits, chipmunks, etc. And guess what ? The kids and I feed them old bread all the time. Would this not be poetic justice if it was a mice-induced harness damage ? A fried of mine in Chicago (100 mi away) had a mice nest removed from the sunroof of his '99 Jetta. He is a bleeding heart liberal as well, but now he is trapping his mice. I think I'll stop at Home Depot for lunch and pick up 5-6 live traps.... GMK '97 MMM/4, poof, snort, short.... maybe with small mammals nestling within ? > -- > Ron Katona

Briton Neil Malkhandi had squatted the names because of his interest in the team, and refused to surrender control when= approached by Williams officials, who offered a cash settlement, as well as paddock passes to a 2001 Grand Prix." There is more. Again, see www.dailyF1.com. I guess BMW is clamping down all over. ===== David Kroth david_kroth@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! #5. [E36M3] Toyo RA-1 Info - from twisty M3

Date: Thu, 30 Nov 2000 09:39:02 -0800 From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: [E36M3] Toyo RA-1 Info A few months back, after some inquiring, I relayed some info along to the group that Toyo would be offering a 235/40-17 in the RA-1 in the spring. I know Jim Basset gave us this info also and I can't remember if he had given more info than that, so I apologize if the following is redundant. I had some further inquiries that I was checking on and here are the answers that I received from the Toyo Rep. I hope this is helpful to someone besides myself. ;-) "We will have 235/40R17 in the Proxes RA-1 available around February of 2001. There should be no problem running this size all the way around since the older M3's came with this size all around. But there is a problem with the rim width. The problem is not that you shouldn't run the same tire size on different rim widths. The problem is that a 235/40R17 requires a minimum of an 8" wide wheel. Also keep in mind that many people who run competition tires on their BMW M3's run 235/40R17 in the front and 255/40R17 in the rear, or sometimes 255/40R17 all the way around (our 255/40R17 RA-1 will also be available in February of 2001). Before you buy your dedicated set of track wheels, you should talk with other people and determine if you may want to go wider. Unfortunately, we do not plant to have 225/45R17 or 245/40R17 in the RA-1. Because we sell this tire in such low volumes, making two sizes for such a specific application could not be justified financially." _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. Ron ( & the Gruppe); for sure not rodent damage... it's electrical, and thus far it's an 8" section in the engine compartment (overheated wiring?). the insultation appears brittle in some places, in others as though it melted. Once they open it all the way up, it can be worse. Warranty Gold's independent adjustor (#2) spent 1.5 hrs yesterday evening going over it with a fine tooth comb. Neither he nor Concours crew knew why it melted down... Now we are just waiting for the "official go-ahead" from the home office. here is food for thought - my car only has 52,900 miles on it. yes, just BARELY out of warranty. I was told that getting this repaired under the BMW warranty would have resulted in an outside rep coming to examine the goods. the degree of BS would have been about the same.... I am still mezmorized by the fact that an electrical problem can result in 8K worth of damage to a 26K (wholesale) car. Go figure. I am done getting pissed off at my car problems today. Back to getting pissed off at NASDAQ. Also the tire wear on the street will be fairly uneven. The ideal camber for most DOT-R race tires is around 3 degrees. IMO the ideal camber for street cars driven fairly aggressivly is around F:2d, R:1.5d. The front should be toed in for almost all street use and also, IMO on most long and fast tracks. Toe out can be very helpful in AutoX. I tried 0 toe in the rear for a while but found it to be twitchy so I went to a little toe-in. Just my .02, based on 4 alignments in 2 years. Date: Thu, 30 Nov 2000 12:57:37 -0700 From: jay@pactitle.com (Jay) Subject: "rear end rattle" After replacing both rotors and pads in the rear. My car has developed a rattle over rough surfaces. I have tighend every bolt on both sides (4) total. The rattle springs are in, any ideas? I'm pretty sure its related to the brake job because if I hear it rattle I'll touch the brakes and stay on the throttle at the same time and it goes away. PS I't was a bitch getting the rotors off.
