Josh said > Saying 245 looks funny on an 8" rim is subjective. Some people like a small tire that's stretched on a wide rim... I would have to agree that there are many people that like a small tire that is stretched on a wide rim. I often see Cadillac's, Buick's and Oldsmobile's so equipped here in Cleveland quite frequently. Matter of fact, the owners often prefer to decrease the backspacing (pushing the wheels out often past the fenders) to a great extent and to combine them with spoked wheels. #2. JTD tranny rings - from Chester Wong

Date: Mon, 4 Dec 2000 15:03:33 -0800 (PST) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: JTD tranny rings I failed to mention that over the weekend while I had the exhaust dropped and swaybars swapped, I installed the JTD STN tranny rings. Installation was a snap...just put each half around the waist of the stock bushing and tighten the two cap screws. The passenger side bushing sagged from age and wear and tear (26K miles) so I might either swap the bushings from left to right or replace the bushings altogether. The rings definitely increase feedback and you can "hear" the engine a bit more (keep in mind that I went from an Active Autowerke exhaust back to stock for repairs...so the exhaust system is quieter). When the engine is not up to operating temp, I get a very slight resonance when the engine is idling (the cup holder piece that goes into the center console might be a little loose). But the good stuff happens while shifting. I could definitely tell that shift throw felt different under hard acceleration where when I lifted off to shift I would guess that with the worn tranny bushings, the drivetrain might move when making the gear selection and now with the tranny rings, it feels like the shift lever stops a fraction shorter than where it usually does. If the car is dancing, you're doing something wrong. Brake BEFORE the crest. You can choose to brake after the crest, but you have to wait until the suspension compresses and that doesn't leave you enough time to turn in smoothly. I usually do most of my braking before the crest, float over the crest, and finish the last 20% after. There are a couple of places where you can make a very expensive mistake at Sears, and the carousel is one of them. It's not as bad as Turn 10, though .... - Mark '95 M3 '97 528i 5-spd '88 M3, Hennarot ---- Mark Dadgar - Product Manager, Peripherals (650) 230-5037 voice - (650) 230-2100 fax mdadgar@handspring.com - Handspring, Inc. When I was ordering my shock tower reinforcement rings ($3.64 ea) and gaskets ($2.51) from them, Rob the parts guy mentioned it. If your interested, give Rob a call 800-476-8522. Rob said you can talk to Bruce if he's not available. Jeremy Lucas 95 M3 Delaware, OH ps. Also ordered the buffer stop for the LTW lower chassis X-brace for $9.00

Yes... If we're talking about Koni inserts you cut open the top of the strut, remove the stock rod and valving, then drop Koni insert into the now hollow strut tube. You also have to drill a hole in the bottom of the strut which allows you to bolt the Koni in from the bottom. It's all pretty easy, but you need a spring compressor and should use air tools if you don't want the job to last all weekend. It's also kind of a leap of faith when you remove that M3 strut and drill a hole in the bottom to let the fluid out. Once you get that far, there's no going back. Best to use old "dead" struts that someone wants to discard since you're basically rebuilding them anyway. Keep your good struts in case you ever sell the car and want to return it to stock. Now Koni may make an entire finished strut assembly that just replaces the strut as a bolt in, but I haven't seen one advertised anywhere. -- Ron Katona

#7. Which camber plates to buy? - from Rob
Top
Date: Mon, 4 Dec 2000 18:46:15 -0700 From: "Rob" <motor@cadvision.com> Subject: Which camber plates to buy? The time has come to add more camber to the 'ol car but there seem to be a few choices. Turner - expensive and maybe "track-only"? Ground Control - expensive but maybe the best? KMAC - good price but maybe limit travel or raise the car? Dinan - cheaper but fixed setting. Sooooooo, what is the hot ticket for a car with H&R coil-overs that sees about 10 track events per year, and therefore does about 99% of mileage on public roads? I was thinking of running around -2.25deg in the front so the Dinan's may not be enough. Do all or any of these plates raise the front of the car or reduce suspension travel? Thanks, Rob

Date: Mon, 4 Dec 2000 18:41:27 -0800 From: "Chris Teague" <cteague@home.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Koni Strut Inserts Bora, You have to cut the top off the OEM housing to remove the "guts" of the OEM shock with a hacksaw. Then you drop in the Koni Inserts, and bolt them to the bottom of the OEM housing, and replace the plastic dust cover on top. You will need to drill some holes to let out the fluid, and put in the bolt. You do not need to weld anything. The Koni instructions are fairly good. It took me about 4 hours for both sides total. A little messy, but not too difficult. I shipped out 10 sets to those of you who confirmed or we spoke to over the last couple of days. I still have 3 people I emailed today who I am waiting on, and 2 others who I don't have email addresses for and I could not contact by phone. If you contacted us on the original GP and have not heard from me, give me a call at 800.841.5394 or email <mailto:rob@topnotchauto.com> if you are still interested. If you were not part of the original order (or you can't remember :) ), I have five (5) sets of these bars available that I will offer at the $300.00 plus shipping. I will not release any of the others until the original people who expressed an interest have contacted me or have had ample time to do so. As I do not want to keep imposing myself on the entire list about this, this will be my last post regarding this GP. Thanks to all who participated and please feel free to call or email me if I can do anything for you. Take care, Rob -- Top Notch Auto Accessories, Inc. 2865 N.
