#1. Underbody panel - from Junaidi Irwan

Date: 5 Dec 00 18:05:17 CST From: Junaidi Irwan <junaidi.irwan@usa.net> Subject: Underbody panel Last nite I was driving from the Patriots game on the 495 interstate highway. While suddenly I saw a dead deer in my path. Relying on my instinct, I pretty much ran over it and hoping that my car would go over the deer safely. Unfortunately, the deer was too big and the underbody panel of my beloved M3 hit it. The good thing is that nothing else is broken or it seems not. The bad thing is that the underbody panel is broken and the underbody of my car is stained with craps from the deer. I removed the panel today since it was dragging on the road. My question is that is it okay to keep the car without the underbody panel? What is the effect of not having it? I called the part dept of a local dealer and they told me that the panel costs around $77. The thing I hate to spend is the labor. They told me that it can take around 2-3 hours to put it on. How difficult is it to install this thing? When I removed it this morning, the right part was already hanging on the floor. So I basically yanked the left part out. Not sure if it broke anything. Do it need to remove the bumper in order to install it? Hopefully I don't need to replace it till next summer since it is already cold in the Northeast. Thanks beforehand for any inputs! You might want to put the bushings, any bushings, in a pan of warm water for a while to soften them up for installation. Jim <== Knower of all things warm and wet. This past weekend I was able to widen the Eibach bushings with my bare fingers. Thanks for the advice, though. #10. Fitting stock 8.5" wheels in front - from Chris Teague
Top
Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2000 19:54:13 -0800 From: "Chris Teague" <cteague@home.com> Subject: Fitting stock 8.5" wheels in front All, I have a set of stock 8.5" rear wheels I want to put in front with 245/45 Kumho's. With my 5mm spacers, the wheel will bolt up, but does not leave any clearance between the tire and the strut, except for a paper thickness roughly. So I have been trying to order 10mm spacers from Bekkers for the last few months, but they are still out of stock. H&R only has 5mm(that I have), and 15mm. Are the 15mm H&R's too much, i.e, will the tire hit the fender, or is the 15mm's what most people run when using the stock rear offsett 8.5" in front. This is for autocross use. Chris Teague 97 M3/4
