PS. you need hubcentric rings with the SSR Competitions jay wrote: > hey everyone...since i got my new rims and tires, i notice a slight shimmy of the steering > wheel at 55-60mph...is this common with new tires??? this never happened to me on my > other vehicles, but none were refined like the bmw...

Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2000 16:36:27 -0800 From: "Belliveau, James" <James.Belliveau@kla-tencor.com> Subject: RE: Beeping sound from console? Dan, I also have the beeping . . . it started recently, and at first I was really confused about what it could be. Then I realized that my inspection warning light had come on. I recently had an oil change at Dinan, and they forgot to reset the service indicators. The car beeps at me three times, just like you said, at random intervals. My theory is this M3's way of saying "change my damn oil!" Too bad it's not smart enough to realize that it doesn't need it for another 2000 miles. The 39 degrees theory is something that I hadn't considered. Doesn't get that cold too often in northern California. . . Please write back and let me know if your inspection indicator is on. Regards, Jamie 97 ///M3 Sedan (with occasional beep) -------------------- 6 -------------------- Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2000 13:12:13 -0500 (EST) From: dahermann@alum.mit.edu Subject: Beeping sound from console? Over the course of the last two weeks or so, I've heard an occasional three distinct beeps come from what sounds like the left side of the instrument cluster on my 96 M3. I suppose it's coming from the left speakers since there's probably not anything that generates sound in the instrument cluster. The first few times I heard it, I thought it was either the radio or my over-active imagination. After hearing it immediately after starting my car yesterday, I'm pretty sure it's neither. The sound has occurred in a variety of situations. It usually occurs under partial throttle on the highway after about five minutes of driving. The OBC displays no messages when it occurs. The only thing I can find in the manual that might relate is the low temp warning which I've heard before (rarely as I live in Texas) and I don't think it sounds the same. Also, my external temp sensor is broken right now and always registers -35o, so I don't think I should hear a low temp warning after several minutes of driving, anyway. Any ideas what it might be? dan 96 M3 (with occasional beep) -------------------- 7 -------------------- Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2000 13:51:02 -0800 From: "Jim Bassett" <jbassett@mayannetworks.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Beeping sound from console? > Any ideas what it might be? Did you happen to notice at what time you hear the beeps? It could that the "Memo" function on the OBC is set, which will beep at 15 seconds before the hour. I don't think the main OBC display will show anything, but you can tell if this function is active by the "tone" symbol over the clock. (The other guess would be the Speed Limit setting, but that will flash the setting on the main OBC display when it's exceeded.) Just a guess, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - no beeps :-) -------------------- 8 -------------------- Date: Wed, 06 Dec 2000 14:30:38 -0800 From: "Sean Hester" <seanh_race@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Beeping sound from console? ah... winter... the car beeps when the outside temp drops to 39 or lower. and it beeps on engine startup if the outside temp is already 39 or lower.

#7. Euro M3 - from Seth Thomas
Top
Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2000 23:36:41 -0500 From: "Seth Thomas" <porsche993@mindspring.com> Subject: Euro M3 Group, Just wanted to give you guys an update on my car. In July, I purchased an Euro Group N 3.0L motor. This motor came complete minus some minor parts like the radiator, alternator, ect. My car then went into the shop in August hoping to have it ready for OFest. As most of you know from adding stuff to your car, nothing ever goes as expected. I did not get it back until the week before Thanksgiving. Time moves slow when you don't have your M. What was the wait you might wonder? Well it was waiting for all the small parts to come over from Germany. Some of them we are still waiting on but they are very minor parts like the cover for the DME and Vanos controller. Plus while it was in the shop, I had a Koni double-adjustable/TC Kline/Ground Control suspension put on. This consisted of the Konis, Eibach springs up front, H&R springs rear with the Ground Control adjustable perch and Ground Control shock mounts, and Ground Control camber plates. This lowered the car about .25" and made it a lot stiffer (450# F and 600# rear springs). I have not had much time to mess with the shocks as I have only had it on the track once since then. The new alignment gave me -2.4 degrees of negative camber at all for wheels. So far I love the added camber except on some of the road around Ga. It want to wander and follow the grooves. But it is a good upgrade. So now it is time to talk about the good part, the motor. All I can say is WOW! WOW! WOW! I really like this new motor. Was it worth the wait and the money invested? I think so as it is a big improvement over the 3.0L that was in the car before. The redline on it is set at 7800RPMs and it wants to pull all the way. I have not had it over 7500 but it keeps pulling even there. I did use my Conforti intake kit with the motor and it fits fine. I also think this does help the power but I can't say for sure as it never has had the original Euro airbox on it. The motor is a little bit more touchy than the US version but you get used to it. There is a slight delay in throttle response time when starting off and idling around. It is harder to be smooth. I think this is also because I am not used to the lightweight flywheel yet either. But all it takes is to just get into the power and lets go. The car just wants to keep going faster and faster. I can say that there is a difference in a Euro 3.0L and a US 3.0L as far as the power and feel of the motor. My motor before had the Conforti Euro Intake and I thought this was a fast. But the Euro is just a lot better. At Road Atlanta, it made about a 10MPH difference on the back straight. It was amazing. Now I really can't wait to see what the new E46 M3 is going to be like. I am thinking about doing some sort of a write-up on this for you guys. Let me know if you guys have any questions or something you might like for me to address in the write-up. Date: Thu, 07 Dec 2000 04:51:57 From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: FS: Yellow M3 in NC I'm currently travelling on business in North Carolina and spotted a yellow E36 M3 in Durham. It's located at an independent car dealership on Guess Road (Atlantic Auto Exchange, 919-416-9400), just off I85. I didn't get out to check details (the place was closed), but it appears to be a 1997 or later model (small side markers, wider chrome around grille, etc). It looks like it has 18" BBS wheels (look like RXII). If you're in that area, and are interested in a yellow M3, give them a call. It looks like a nice car. -rb _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com
