#2. Brake cooling ducts - cheapest? - from Rob

Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2000 23:14:31 -0700 From: "Rob" <motor@cadvision.com> Subject: Brake cooling ducts - cheapest? My (useless) stock fog/driving lights are both broken, and rather than replace them I'd like to remove them and install some type of brake cooling ducts. As this is primarily a street car I don't want to spend ~$300 for the full-on duct kit, rather I'm looking for something that will go in the fog light holes and *help* direct air in the general direction of the brakes. I tried just removing the lights but it leaves a very unfinished look to the front of the car so I'd like some type of E36 specific duct. Yeah I know it sounds hokey but it's no less hokey than those useless lights :-) Thanks, Rob

Hi Ron: If you check out the car talk to Holland Hale, long time BMWCCA member, active club racer, and previous Chief Instructor for Tarheel Chapter DE events. The car seems reasonably priced (less than 30K I believe), and Holland will know its full history. Oh yeah, the "Speed Limit" setting.... boy, this sounds like a fun little prank to pull on your buddy at the next driving school.... Did you happen to notice at what time you hear the beeps? It could that the "Memo" function on the OBC is set, which will beep at 15 seconds before the hour. I don't think the main OBC display will show anything, but you can tell if this function is active by the "tone" symbol over the clock. (The other guess would be the Speed Limit setting, but that will flash the setting on the main OBC display when it's exceeded.) Just a guess, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - no beeps :-) ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. *************************************************************

Date: Thu, 7 Dec 2000 08:54:20 US/Pacific From: peter@guagenti.com Subject: HELP! Electronic Climate Control acting wierd... Okay, here's a new one: When I get into my car in the morning (stone cold), the electronic climate control won't turn on. The fuses are fine, so no help there. After driving the car and letting it warm up, the climate control will turn on and stay on from that point. Next morning, the whole thing repeats itself. Short of bringing it to the stealer for a check-up, is there anything I can do to try to figure out what could be the problem? Anyone ever have a problem like this one? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -peterg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

#10. RE: E36 shimmy with new rims/tires - from Heckendorf, David

Date: Thu, 7 Dec 2000 13:25:37 -0500 From: "Heckendorf, David" <DHeckendorf@broadband.att.com> Subject: RE: E36 shimmy with new rims/tires OK, I'm going to show my naiveté on this one; but, I thought the only reasons that you would need hub-centric rings/spacers/adapters were: 1) The offset caused rubbing on a variety of points and you needed to adjust the position of the wheel/rim in the wheel well with spacers. 2) The Hub on the rim is not the correct size or not machined to tight enough tolerances and thus you need either an hub-centric adapter or a hub-centric ring. It wit, I have to ask for which of the two reasons above (or another reason if I've missed it) one needs a hub-centric ring for the SSR Competitions in "BMW" sizes?? Why wouldn't SSR just machine these rims properly and within the proper tolerances so as to avoid needing the hub-centric rings/adapters particularly for "COMPETITION" rims???... Can I get a show of hands for those who want to fart around with rings/adapters/spacers while changing out of street tires/rims at the track?? Thx, Dave -----Original Message----- Date: Wed, 06 Dec 2000 14:32:04 -1000 From: jay <jguzman@hawaii.edu> Subject: E36 shimmy with new rims/tires hey everybody...remember i have the shimmy on my 97 M3 after i put on new wheels/tires??? i got back from the local speed shop, where they rebalanced my tires...2 were somewhat okay (minimal balancing needed), one was moderately out of balance and one was WAY out of balance...manager at the speedshop tells me to ask tirerack for some hubcentric spacers if the shimmy is still there..i jump in and drive home- shimmy still there...i call tire rack and they say i didnt need hubcentric spacers for those wheels, but my salesperson will talk to the fitment guy when he comes in tomorrow...i get a call 2 minutes after i hang up the phone, and aaron at tirerack (my salesman), asks me if i received any hubcentric rings with the wheels- i say no and TADA...we find the problem...he'll overnight shipp'em to me tomorrow...they'll also cover my rebalancing fees ($15 a tire)...so, if you buy rims, make sure you ask if you need hubcentric spacers/rings...and make sure you get them with the shipment...hope this helps out others... PS. you need hubcentric rings with the SSR Competitions jay wrote:
