It is essentiall a flat tarp with reinforced opening through which the headrests go. Once installed, it forms somewhat of a "sling" between the back of the front seats and the top of the back seats (the foot wells are protected that way). Also, there are two side protectors that install over the lock buttons of the rear doors and have plastic tabby things that slide under the door trim. The sling I think would work in a covertable, but the side protectors would not. If you are in Mass, you can look at mine. I was looking at the factory model but was thinking there may be a good Pioneer or Alpine out there that is plug and play for less money. If you want to save yourself the trouble of finding a matching player, go with the factory unit. To save some money you can check the ads in the back of Roundel and magazines like Bimmer. They always have parts departments and suppliers who are selling CD player units for quite a discount. - John _______________________________________________________ Tired of slow Internet? They're made of a heavy denim-type material, and have held up really well for almost two years now. Check out the "rear auto bench" items under styles, or they may be able to make a custom fit for you. Oh, and have them embroider an M-stripe on the seatback - looks good! Pat, I don't know about the seat covers, but I think that ultimatums like this are no good. Do YOU want the 100lb. dog in the back seat of your gorgous Bavarian Ultimate Tanning Machine? Then stick up for yourself and tell whoever is giving you the ultimatum that you don't think a dog should come between you and your beloved BMW. I know it's most likely a SO, but you have to stand your ground. Big dogs ruin car interiors. They have no place in a nice car. Just my opinion, and I hope you are able to reconcile your problem. #5. [E36M3] Worst Upgrades revisited - from Jeff Thompson
Top
Date: Fri, 08 Dec 2000 12:41:35 -0500 From: Jeff Thompson <jthompson@telco.com> Subject: [E36M3] Worst Upgrades revisited People, A few months ago there was the thread on the worst M3 upgrades, and I posted my experiences with JT Designs rear shock mounts and the tranny brace. The bushings on the RSMs were being chewed up allowing the top shock washer to hit the mount, and the tranny brace just never fit my car. The day after I posted that I was contaced by Jim Mihal, and even though it was more than a year after the initial purchase he offered me a refund on the tranny brace and a new set of RSMs. Finally (after some problems with the post office losing stuff) I got a package with new RSMs and the new JT Designs bushing stiffeners for the tranny. Jim and I sent numerous e-mails back and forth, and he was extremely helpful and was absolutely committed to making sure that I was satisfied with the things that I had purchased. Jim definitely went above and beyond in offering me a refund on the original brace and the entire experience was a very plesant surprise. So even though the original products didn't work out for me, I would have no hesitations about buying more products from them since JTD is obviously committed to making people happy with their products and offering alternatives no matter what the original problem was. I wanted to make this public here since the original post was in this forum. Jim, thanks again for all your help any your patience. It was class all the way. -jeff '95 M3, a few mods and some waiting JTD goodies.

#7. Metal pedal covers and Accelerator pedal removal instructions - from Marc.S.Edwards@questdiagnostics.com

Date: Fri, 8 Dec 2000 10:30:01 -0800 From: Marc.S.Edwards@questdiagnostics.com Subject: Metal pedal covers and Accelerator pedal removal instructions where Group; I received and installed the aluminum metal pedal covers from John Skaggs of speedware accessories. These things look great. You can see them on Ron Stygar's web page at the www.unofficialbmw.com website and Suzy's www.bmwmpower.com website. Certainly better than the Razo or other import pedal covers I have seen. Very nice work and easy to install. I have no affiliation with John and bought at regular price. Very nice product. I looked in various areas as well as on Ron Stygar's and Dale Beunig's site for instructions on how to remove the accelerator pedal from the floor. Does anyone have any quick instructions or can point me to a site that has accelerator pedal removal instructions? Thanks, Marc Edwards 1995 M3 LTW with aluminum pedal covers

#8. Bad News from the SCCA (long) - from BobTunnell@aol.com
Top
Date: Fri, 8 Dec 2000 13:55:25 EST From: BobTunnell@aol.com Subject: Bad News from the SCCA (long) I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I just returned from a long road trip and didn't see it mentioned as I scanned the digests I missed while gone. During their conference call on November 2 the SCCA Solo Events Board *rescinded* their earlier decision to leave the E36 M3 in ESP and is recommending to the BOD that it be moved to BSP for the 2001 season. See comments under "Street Prepared Category" at http://www.scca.org/news/tech/seb/11-02-00.html. Should you decide to express your displeasure to the SEB (which will have little effect at this point) don't bother showing them facts about mechanical comparisons with Pony Cars or reminding them that no one has developed a Pony Car to the limit of the rules since Gary Thomason in 1993. They based their decision on two things that we M3 drivers can't refute: ESP shrank as a class at the Solo II Nationals in 2000 (true, but not because of the M3) and ESP is a protected preserve for American Pony Cars (don't kid yourself about the Talon, it doesn't even count<g>). Why these factors increased in importance between Sept. 26 and Nov. 2 is something I'll never understand. I had decided months ago to sell my M3 this winter and build an E36 325i to run in the new STS class or DSP, but now I'm considering running my M3 at least one more year in BSP against those ground pounding Corvettes. There are a few very talented drivers and well prepared cars in BSP and winning there will be an uphill battle, but it's not out of the question. I encourage any of you that had considered running your E36 M3 in ESP next year to give BSP a go. Beating Mustangs, Camaros, and Firebirds is fun, but the feeling of beating a Corvette is, well... special (almost as much fun as beating a Porsche). <g> --BT PS. If you read the SEB's minutes you'll also notice that they're considering moving the M3 LTW from ASP and putting it on the same line as the Std. M3 in BSP for 2002. The effect of this would be good for LTW owners (use the 3.38 diff from the M3 auto) as well as Std. M3 owners (remove another 75-100 pounds of weight). Writing a letter to the SEB supporting this proposed move would be a good idea.

#9. '96 strut mounts on a '95 M3? - from Rob

Date: Fri, 8 Dec 2000 12:38:24 -0700 From: "Rob" <motor@cadvision.com> Subject: '96 strut mounts on a '95 M3? Can I use the upper strut mount from a '96> M3 on my '95 M3 for added camber? My buddy has a '98 and has swapped his mounts from left to right and now has lots of neg. camber. This seems like a great low-buck solution for more camber, but will it work on my car? Anyone know approx. how much camber to expect on a car lowered ~1.75" ?. TIA, Rob
