#1. Trade Racing Dynamics Wheels and Tires for Stock? - from Lee Shuck
Top
Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2000 21:28:38 -0800 From: "Lee Shuck" <LeeShuck@home.com> Subject: Trade Racing Dynamics Wheels and Tires for Stock? Hi All, I'm considering purchase of a '96 M3 that has 18" Racing Dynamics wheels and Yokohama (I believe) tires. It also has non-stock springs, but the originals are available. I prefer stock wheels - any chance somebody would be interested in a swap if I got the car? I'm in southern Orange County, CA. One other question - I noticed on this car that the VIN tags on the body panels look a little frayed on the edges - is this unusual? Any opinions are appreciated. Lee

#3.UUC Comp. Evo SS Rocks! - from Mike Tse
Top
Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2000 12:51:56 -0500 From: "Mike Tse" <phid_bombadier@hotmail.com> Subject: <E36>UUC Comp. Evo SS Rocks! Some background: I used to own a 96 328is and the first mod I did was the UUC Competition Short Shifter with ERK and delrin bushings. (eventually one of the original Rob Knobs as well) The SS really cleaned up the shifting in my car. Shifts were more precise and a lot shorter. No complaints, until now...<fast forward to present day...> My 328is is sold and I have a new, used 95 M3. (both cars share trannies) First mod...you guessed it, UUC's next generation short shifter. The Competition Evo Short Shifter with cartrige bearings, ERK, delrin bushings, and Height Adjustable! (saved my titanium Rob Kob I as well). All I can say is holy crap there actually is a difference between old and new! Now we all know there is a *big* difference between stock and UUC but I can tell you there is a significant difference between the original UUC and their latest iteration of the USS! I'm not going into stats you can find off their webpage, but real world useability. Category Original UUC Newest UUC -------------------------------------------------------------------- physical desc Bent OEM lever Solid stainless construction ERK -same ERK -same need to shave Perfect fit w/o shaving carrier carrier Bushings Cartrige bearings! Fixed height Adjustable! Shift length A fraction of stock Even less than Original UUC precision some play in gates Almost NO play noise in gear not noticable slight increase can hear syncros if you touch the shifter in gear (don't do this too much!) noise shifting Snook, snook SNICK, SNICK <crisp> vibration minimal Increased. you can feel the the tranny vibrations notchiness Uneven uniform twistiness rubbery in feel solid -------------------------------------------------------------------- I can barely drive my M3 now...I had been driving around with a stock lever for the last few months and now the UUC short shifter is too short for my muscle memory to handle! :) Practice, practice, practice! (I'm just worried now that my arm will start to atrophy from the lack of motion!) I can just use the fingers on my meat hooks to shift now. My comparisons were made with my Titanium Rob Knob I and 320i bushings with UUC Tranny Mount Enforcers. With standard shift knob, expect more notchiness and effort. With standard tranny bushings, you may feel more slop and difficulty shifting in hard turns... The increase in vibration is a no brainer tradeoff for a precision shifter! You don't want to ride the shifter anyways cause it puts extra wear on your synchros. Here's the easiest side by side test. Try shifting with both types. You'll feel a slight increase in precision. Once IN gear, wiggle the shifter left and right. Feel the increase in tightness (lack of play). Now in neutral, try twisting the shifter. The old and stock levers will feel rubbery, the Comp Evo will feel ROCK SOLID! Analogy to surgery: Stock: Jagged rusted razor blade that has some knicks Original UUC: Clean, fresh surgical scalpel Latest UUC: Freshly forged, freshly honed Samuri Katana Massive Overkill...Exactly! Hey, I'm just giving you guys some more data points but feeling it is believing! Highly recommended. no affiliation..blah, blah...just a satisfied customer...yet again. Thanks! --- Mike Tse 95 M3 BMWCCA NJ _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com

#5. IMPORTANT - ADMIN (list problems) - from John Rather
Top
Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2000 14:54:49 -0600 From: John Rather <JRather@chemsoft.com> Subject: IMPORTANT - ADMIN (list problems) I apologize for not giving everyone a heads up beforehand. We are in the process of implementing some new security for our web hosting. This process started on 12/12... and should have been completed on 12/12; however, our new Cisco router has been locking up and Cisco has no idea what the problem is. A new router should be here today (12/14); assuming that that fixes the problem, we should be good to go. The list has been down sporadically over the last two days while we have been testing with Cisco (I also didn't feel like getting up at 3:00am and rebooting the stupid thing). I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions or concerns now or in the future regarding the list (and why it may not be working), please feel free to contact me at admin@chemsoft.net <mailto:admin@chemsoft.net> . #6. RE: Head Gasket Leak + Ext Warranty - from Bob Vaughn
Top
Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2000 14:00:16 -0800 From: Bob Vaughn <Bob_Vaughn@Telestream.net> Subject: RE: Head Gasket Leak + Ext Warranty Thanks to all who responded to my questions regarding this. I took it to the dealer for a second opinion and they agreed that the oil on the block was from a very minor head gasket leak. They didn't think it was worth spending that much money (either on my part or theirs) to fix such a minor problem at this point. But they did say to keep an eye on it in case it really starts dripping oil. So I guess I'll hold off on doing anything for now. Now my next question... does anyone with an extended warranty know if a head gasket repair would be covered? Or is that considered normal maintenance stuff? -- thx, Bob '95 M3

#10. Ron Stygar Clutch Pedal - from Monty Baugh
Top
Date: Fri, 15 Dec 2000 09:42:45 -0600 From: Monty Baugh <mbaugh@telecom-management.com> Subject: Ron Stygar Clutch Pedal I installed my Stygar-modified clutch pedal this week while waiting out an ice storm. I highly recommend the mod. The pedal is much more solid now, and without the incessant creaking and groaning. As for the install, I was reminded why I hate under-dash work. Total time was about 2 hours (standing on my head). MBaugh
