Date: Sat, 16 Dec 2000 08:26:28 -0800 From: Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com Subject: Windshield wiper replacements Sorry for the mundane question. I thought that some of you in the wetter climates would have experience with this: What have you found to be the best wiper replacements for the E36M3? The BMW OEM part or some wiper? This is a performance question because I have done schools in the wet as well as swarms of mayflies that splattered the windshield with bug juice that required stopping in the pit area to wipe it off...the wipers just smeared the stuff..yuck!!! Thanks, Marc M3 LTW

#2. Engine Whine Last questions - from ENF

Date: Sat, 16 Dec 2000 13:36:42 -0500 From: "ENF" <enf@iglou.com> Subject: Engine Whine Last questions OK this will be my last questions on the matter (I hope) and my next email to the list will be the result. 1) Does any feel that the 97 M3 engine(or any M3) has whines or moans or groans that are "normal" to the engine. In my case, a whine that occurs 30 to 45 minutes after continuos driving and is noticeable around idle from inside and outside the car. A whine THAT ALSO varies in pitch with acceleration/de-acceleration (until the regular engine noises drown it out). That will also go completely away if the car is left idling for 10 minutes or so until the next burst of acceleration and it will show up again after the engine winds down. 2) To me, it just doesn't seem right so my plan is to take it back to the dealer once more and say "find the problem or prove to me it is not one" or I will contact BMWNA to get results. (Warranty is up in early Feb. 01) 3) Am I just being picky? many of the replies I've gotten from this list seem feasible but I'm not the expert. In my personal experience this is one of those problems that if I sign of and just live with it, it will come back to haunt me. Any last thoughts are welcome. This is driving me crazy trying to figure it out. Ed Frank 97 M3/4

#3. broken diffrential bolt - from Roy Chiappari, Jr.

Date: Sat, 16 Dec 2000 11:10:58 -0800 From: "Roy Chiappari, Jr." <rchiappari@tcresidential.com> Subject: broken diffrential bolt Hello All, I wanted to see how much spin my ASC would allow in the company parking lot late Thursday night (it rained here all day). I got some spin and then a load bang. At first it sounded like I dropped the drive shaft. Looked under car and it seemed fine. All the way home it would take a second from when I hit the gas petal to when power reached the rear wheels. Next day I couldn't get the car down the street with out very bad banging noises. I had it towed to the dealer since its under warrenty. They said I broke a diferential bolt. How does one break such a bolt? Was it me messing with the ASC? Other causes? What else could be damaged or worn? Thanks for any help. Roy 98 M3 36000 miles ish on it

I hear about this often, but I'm unclear as to which bolt is broken. Is it a mounting bolt (attaching the differential housing to the car), or is it an internal bolt? The wiring failure is a rarity (never seen a post on it anywhere) so it can be chalked up to "sh*t happens." I picked up an extended warranty and have not had occasion to use it in the last 2 years and 20,000 miles. I have some minor issues that come around with a car at 70,000 miles, these problems will not reach anywhere near the cost of the warranty when I decide to repair them. A used DME can be had for under 1,000, dunno about the harness. I am sure the whole job could be done for significantly less then $6,000 if you use somewhere other then the dealer or did the work yourself. If you think this was a problem, check the S4 forum on transmission failures, turbo failures and just about any electrical problem you can imagine. These problems on a car that has only been available for 2 years. Boxter S would be a choice I couldn't possibly find a problem with. I believe your problem is in fact a defect specific to your car. Unfortunately, problems happen on any car....be glad you were prepared with an extended warranty. >Date: Tue, 12 Dec 2000 12:37:23 -0600 >From: "George M. Date: Sat, 16 Dec 2000 14:16:05 -0800 From: Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com Subject: Part number for 1995 E36M3 2 door floor mats Sorry about this question. Could someone with a parts list confirm please that the floor mats for the 1995 E36M3 2 door are part number 82-11-1-470-393. This would be for the black/anthracite color? Anyone notice that the M3 floor mats are smaller than the stock "BMW" mats that you might find in a 328i? Thanks and sorry for the intrustion. Marc M3 with new mats

After a VERY well-run club-race-mit-school at Summit last year, the new schedule shows the DVC running a CR at Rauch (sic) Creek Raceway on 4/21-22. The Rausch Creek web site http://www.rauschcreekracing.com says the track's inaugural event is the Northeast Sportbike Assn. race on 4/29. Am I rauchen something or is the DVC up the creek due to construction delays from enlargement of the RCR carousel runoff area? Dave Hogg

#8. No Clearcoat on Red? - from Matt Henson

Date: Sun, 17 Dec 2000 08:48:15 -0800 (PST) From: Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> Subject: No Clearcoat on Red? Hey All, Which colors have no clearcoat? I understand that Dakar doesn't and, based on yesterday's hand wax, neither does the red. BMW recommends not to wax the clearcoat paints but the single stage paints have to be waxed, right? BTW, after the Mother's Step 1 cleaner (only once a year) and step 3 wax it looks absolutly great. It was really fading and kinda turning orangish. Now it's much deeper and just beautiful. Anyway, maybe someone in the know can fill me in.. which paints should be waxed? -Matt __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Shopping - Thousands of Stores.
