#1. Cleaning ITG filters - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Tue, 19 Dec 2000 14:29:42 -0500 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: Cleaning ITG filters Jeff asked > Somehow I have lost the instructions for how to clean the ITG filter for my JC intake. If somebody could just shoot me the proper chemical to soak it in (kerosene, gas, etc) I would appreciate it. Definitely kerosene, much less volatile than gas, etc. Soak the filter in kerosene, wring out and let dry. Once dry, respray with the ITG provided filter oil. Reinstall. If I am missing anything here, please let me know since I did this from my memory of reading the procedure once. Best regards, Rich 95 M3 - Original ITG filter installed as it has not needed to be cleaned yet.

According to Mueller, it's fine to machine out the hole to accept a pin, but you can also just use a regular flywheel bolt instead. I'll post impressions of the flywheel when I get the car back. -kit 97 m/3

Actually, I spoke with Josh @ Eurosport not too long ago, and he said you can use just dish soap & water to clean the filter. Certainly less volatile than either kerosene or gas :-) I found it works pretty well (I've cleaned mine twice now, most recently this past weekend). I just fill a bucket with hot soapy water & squeeze it in the water for about 5-10 minutes til it seems clean. Air dry & recoat with the filter oil like Rich said. Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - breathing through a clean filter

Um... sorry guys. I guess I wasn't clear. Even after 5 laps, when I pulled off into the hot pits, and got back out on the track, the G-Force R1As went up in smoke when I romped on it, in first gear. Guess I just need to learn to leave the hot pits slowly. ;) > i'll bet if you took a couple laps around a track, pulled into the hot pits, > and tried the "break loose" test, you couldn't break those tires loose > before you fried your clutch from dumping it at 6000 rpm trying to prove me > wrong. Dish soap is very effective at cutting grease/oil as well as any dirt the filter would have collected. Any good grease/oil cutting soap would probably work although I am sure most of you out there have dish washing soap available (except a few of the bachelors on the list maybe). Not that you would ever consider using dish washing soap on your car!! As a kid, my father instructed me to wash the family car in this manner. Dish washing soap is good for china, porcelain, etc. but is not so good for car's painted surfaces. TOO aggressive. I almost had a stroke when I read your post. That means a few more days with my brother's 325i. Missing the ///M as you can tell. Once it dries up a bit outside I can give some feedback on the improvement. Ed Tang 95 Cosmos M3 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! #9. Anyone need 15% off at Active Autowerke? - from Chester Wong

Date: Tue, 19 Dec 2000 13:27:23 -0800 (PST) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: Anyone need 15% off at Active Autowerke? Hi guys. Well, as some may know my AA exhaust tips started cracking a while back. My only options were to send the exhaust back for repair or have them ship me replacement tips. I chose the later, but would not be reimbursed for the service provided by a stainless steel shop. AA sent me a 15% off coupon for anything they offer (turbo systems included). I don't see myself buying a full blown turbo system (especially not within a year--coupon expires approx next October). Well, the stainless steel shop charged ~$150 for the repair work and I'm looking to recover that cost. So if you're looking to plop down some serious dough (their new '96-'99 OBDII system costs $10,400), you can get 15% off with this coupon (~$1560 for the full blown system). I thought I would offer the coupon here first. Please contact me privately at chester_p_wong@yahoo.com Thanks, Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! As for radar detector, they are by and large not needed if you don't speed on surface street in CA (with the exception of King County, CHP's nest). A good visual scan is all you need...
