Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 19:42:32 -0800 From: "Lee Shuck" <LeeShuck@home.com> Subject: 98 M3 Audio Choices Hi All, After a couple of false starts, I have acquired a '98 M3. The first attempt was a 1995 M3 'BMW certified pre-owned' that I found had been in a collision and was not properly repaired, the second was a '97 M3 from iMotors (thought it was worth a try!) - rust damage in the battery copartment and spare tire well due to collision/battery trauma. I was told that the sound systems in these cars aren't very good, and that appears to be true to my ears. I have the standard cassette/AM/FM unit. Anyone have opinions on current after market options vs. staying stock and adding a BMW CD changer? Will I encounter any warranty hassles if the aftermarket equipment is properly installed? I'm in Aliso Viejo, CA - if you have any recommendations on shops/installers please let me know. Thanks, Lee

#4. WeatherTech Floormats => Trunkmats - from Thomas E. Tice

Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 22:54:56 -0500 From: "Thomas E. Tice" <tetice@worldnet.att.net> Subject: WeatherTech Floormats => Trunkmats Ben is correct on the BMW mats. I have the weathertechs for my 540 - they fit fine but slide around because they have no means of securely attaching them. I have the BMW winter mats for the M3 and as Ben indicates they fit perfectly. They even attach to the carpet with the same fastener system as the standard mats. The BMW mats may only hold a pint or so of water but personally, I have no need to hold anything close to quart of water in my car mats. I also have the weathertech trunk liner in my 540 and am really pleased with it. It fits perfect, is very durable, easy to clean and really protects the trunk. I'd like one for my M3 also. BMW also makes a similar trunk mat for most models that is less expensive than the weathertech (at least when comparing street prices). Does anyone have experience with the BMW trunk mat? Having used both the Weathertech and the BMW fitted mats, I can say that the effort put into cutting the Weathertech mats, even if you don't get a *perfect* fit, is worth it; IMHO, the BMW mats are fitted such that they really don't have sufficient protection for your carpets. - -Matt The Bambislayer <-----hibernating :-( ---- Original Message ---- From: ben@shortshifter.com To: e36m3@bmwmpower.com, Subject: Re: [E36M3] WeatherTech Floormats Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 20:26:36 -0600 >Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 21:19:19 -0500 >From: "Ben Liaw" <ben@shortshifter.com> >Subject: Re: [E36M3] WeatherTech Floormats >BMW sells "winter" mats (of course, made of rubber). they may not >hold a >"quart of water" but they fit the car. > >ben

I know this is a BMW list so I won't go on and on but......~3000lbs, 300HP/330TQ for ~$1000, 50/50 weight dist, big Brembo's, etc... I guess my real concern is about which car will be fastest on the track once both are properly prepared. I've already got an X-brace and H&R coil-overs on my E36 and would do similar stuff to the 944. The Porsche will always have a serious power-to-weight advantage but maybe the E36's ease of driving and more advanced technology will let in win in the end? Has anyone had real experience (comparable drivers) with their M3 vs. 944t's on the track or Auto-X?. TIA, Rob

The rears required cutting along the marked lines to fit under the front seat. They were much too wide without the minor trimming to fit in without trimming but the cutting was easy and didn't comprimise the integrity of the mats because they were designed to be cut to fit. I don't have the model number of mine but purchased from Bavarian Auto about a year ago.
