Well I suspect that many are not around on the list due to the holidays, but I will ask the question anyway. While at my local dealer in Greenwich he stated that there has been a rash of wheel thefts from the E46 sport wheels and others as of late and suggested that I get a set of locks for my e36 as a precaution. Does anyone here use them and which mfg. do you recommend? thanks, And I hope everyone has a great holiday that provides gifts for our pride and joys. I am hoping St, Nick brings me some 4 pt harnesses. Rob

Nah, there's a few of us poor souls stuck at work. My vote is for no wheel locks - they're generally more of a PITA than they do good. The first set of wheel locks I had were the BMW wheel locks - not the ones with the key, but the ones where the center of the bolt is hollowed out & you have an insert you slip in. Those worked fairly OK but you always have to keep this adapter somewhere. Then I switched my wheels, bought Fikse FM10's with wheel locks, McGard style. Went to rotate my wheels one day and the adapter bolt started both digging into the bolt and deforming at the same time. I ended up having to go to my tire shop, they had a wheel lock removal socket which they hammered onto the lock & removed those pieces of crap (shameless plug for Radial Tire Co. for those in the DC area - they didn't want to charge me anything for the job but you gotta tip 'em some for that). Since then I've been running normal wheel bolts with no worries about whether the wheel lock will fail on me or not. The other thing to not forget here is that if thieves want your wheels, they'll take them. The tools / sockets to remove wheel locks are out there, if a tire shop can get 'em, they can get 'em too. Watch where you park and don't waste the $$ on wheel locks (my opinion). Andrej '97 M3

I've been using the ones from BMW which are just keyed solid lug bolt and the matching keyed socket. While "breakfast with Mickey" is something the kids [and wife and grandma] are looking forward to, I am thinking .... GO KARTING !!!!!! Where is a good place to go ? I am not talking the wrinky-dinky $5 for 10 laps old-tired B&S machines... I am thinking a good outdoor grand-prix course, something like by the SFO airport. Ideas ? suggestions ? I am all ears ! Please cc: geo@oncontact.com when replying to the digest. Happy Hannukah & Merry X-mas ! OBMWC: If it's going to be bitter-cold inb Milwaukee, it might as well snow. And while talking about snow, my M3 handles much better on Pirelli W210s with 240# of salt bags in the trunk. GMK '97 MMM/4, w/ 240# of watersoftner salt in the trunk for the next few months....

#8. M3 vs. 944T - from TheBrinkmans@aol.com
Top
Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2000 18:33:25 EST From: TheBrinkmans@aol.com Subject: M3 vs. 944T I also find this an interesting topic. I have found the 944s, regular and turbo, to be much more of a challenge in overtaking at track events than most of the 911s. I have suspected it is mostly a function that a 911 is so damn hard to drive whereas the 944 is easy to drive closer to the limit. Having a turbo gives you way more leeway in mods that improve HP so a setup 944T will usually blow the doors off of a M3. Plus, its as easy to drive as the M3. I think there is more a basic issue to your question. Trying to setup a car for 50% track and 50% street will give you a car that is good at both but not great at either. I've certainly been there. My advice is to find yourself a nice used 5 series as a street car and a track car with a trashed interior and maybe a few dents. Or better yet, buy someone else's track car with the right mods and let them take the depreciation hit. No normal person wants to buy a track car so its value is way low compared to the acquisition cost and the cost of mods. Have fun either way you go! Ken Brinkman 97 M3/2 that hurts to ride in when driven on the street. 528iT that is way better than a SUV.

Briefly spoke to local dealer service rep. He stated that it is not serviceable, need to replace whole knob! Can anyone confirm, deny and/or provide guidance on how to "re-illuminate" it ;-> regards, jpr 98 Cosmos Schwartz ///M3 coupe

#10. Driver's side door lock gets stuck - from Bora Akyol
Top
Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2000 15:56:00 -0800 From: "Bora Akyol" <akyol@akyol.org> Subject: Driver's side door lock gets stuck Driver's side door lock gets stuck in locked position occasionally. It is mechanically stuck such that I can not open the door even with the key from the drivers' side. I am going to take the car in for other stuff in two weeks, but I am wondering if there is something I can do. When it is stuck, it is difficult to turn the key in the door to open the lock. I don't think this is an electrical problem. Any suggestions, Bora
