#2. Trailer hitch for E36 M3 - trimming lower rear bumper - from vernon@sprynet.com

Date: Sun, 24 Dec 2000 11:37:58 -0500 From: vernon@sprynet.com Subject: Trailer hitch for E36 M3 - trimming lower rear bumper I have decided to get a tire trailer for my M3 for this coming season as I'm sick of trying to stuff wet and dirty track and auto-x tires into my car (especially with the rollbar, it has become very difficult). Vendors tell me that for the Da'Lan hitch you must trim a section about 1 inch high from the lower rear bumper (the black plastic piece with the upright fins). Has anyone ever done this or examined a car with this surgery? Initially I wasn't going to even consider this, but I checked at my dealer and that entire part is only $75 (I was expecting $300-400). I'm thinking that measuring carefully and using a good Dremel, this should be fairly straightforward. Any experiences or suggestions? Thanks! Vern Anderson 98 M3/2, hopefully with 6 wheels shortly..

They said the lower skirt on the rear needed notched but only on the M3, other 3 series clear. I'd really prefer a car trailer but don't think my ancient Cherokee with 260,000+ miles would hold up. My plan was to neatly cut out the notch and either glue it or an M3 logo or BMW CCA grill badge to a receiver plug since the one HMS sells is a receiver hitch and I don't want a hitch ball there permanently. It's too cold in upstate NY to do this winter so I will wait for spring since my garage is unheated. Sometimes I think how nice living in the South would be but then I remember I've been to Florida, Georgia, Texas, Nevada, California, Arizona, etc. in the summer and it's a lot easier to put an extra sweater on that to die from the humidity. ( I know, it's a dry heat in Nevada and Arizona, but at 115 degrees it really doesn't matter.) Sorry for the rant but I have about 6 inches of snow and road salt everywhere. My M3 is safely tucked in the garage till spring and I miss her. Resigned to driving my very old Cherokee till spring and the roads are safely rinsed of salt. #8. Any people buy M3 over long distance? - from Keith Tsang

Date: Sun, 24 Dec 2000 19:26:09 -0800 From: "Keith Tsang" <ktsang1@uclink4.berkeley.edu> Subject: Any people buy M3 over long distance? Hello, I was wondering if anybody here has experience buying off of autotrader or something similar. It seems the only way for me to get the best price on a m3 is to buy out of state in texas or thereabouts, since prices in CA are much higher. Is there a reason why m3's are so much cheaper out there? Also, do any of you guys have any tips on what I could do to tell if a car is a lemon or not over a long distance? Keith

Have a shop local to the seller do an inspection for you. On a related note, I'm getting my '95 M3 ready to sell -- had to get a tow vehicle for my recently purchased race car (an '87 325 is I'll be running in BMW CCA club racing K Prepared). I'm in Houston, TX :) - Rich

Thanks, Frank "yes i meant my car exhaust" Graziano
