Euro cars tend to have cats that emit stinky eggs with some gases. Switch gas stations and run a couple of tanks. You can get a discount at certain dealers with your CCA card. I think for non-factory, Mann is the OEM supplier. Ed Tang 95 Cosmos M3 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? #3. '97 M3 5k Vibration/Mechanical Advise Needed - from JUSTIN GERRY

Date: Tue, 26 Dec 2000 11:15:50 -0500 From: "JUSTIN GERRY" <jgerry@butchers.com> Subject: '97 M3 5k Vibration/Mechanical Advise Needed I have had nagging 5k vibration (can reproduce the sound in neutral, 1st, 2nd etc). that my local dealer (although very helpful) has been unable to solve for the past 5 months. The vibration is almost gone when the motor is cold. When it warms up it gets worse. I am using BMW 5w-30 synthetic oil. I have had VANOS, belts, belt/chain tensioners, pulleys, catalytic convertors replaced under warranty. The vibration (harmonic) is still there. They have tried to listen using chassis ears, but the entire motor resonates the sound. They have even pulled the oil pan for an inspection. I have had a area BMW technical rep. listen to it. No one can come with any answer but "thats weird". If anybody can recommend someone who really knows the 3.2L inside and out that might be able to help me out, it would be appreciated. FYI, I am located in the Framingham, Mass area. Thanks, Justin -- '97 M3 (Orion) (nasty 5k buzz) '76 02 (Whimsical) BMWCCA 77056 http://users.vei.net/jgerry

#5. Extended warranties & sizzle - from Joseph Kannookadan
Top
Date: Tue, 26 Dec 2000 15:35:01 -0600 From: "Joseph Kannookadan" <joekannooks@hotmail.com> Subject: Extended warranties & sizzle Hello all, I'm somewhat new to the list and have just been listening in the background. But, since it's coming near the end of my factory warranty on my '97 (44k mi), I was wondering what extended warranty companies people have went with. I know Warranty Gold (www.warrantygold.com) was mentioned by at least one person on the list. However, I've also found Warranty By Net (www.warrantybynet.com) and WarrantyDirect (www.warrantydirect.com). There is also of course, extending it through the dealer. I've been looking at getting a 5 yr/100k mi/$0 deductible exclusionary warranty. As of yet, my choice would have to be WarrantyDirect... they seem to be the most reputable. Does anyone have good/bad experiences with them or another? Any strong recommendations one way or the other? On another topic, my car (along with someone else's on this list I believe) makes a sizzling/grinding(?) noise when the car starts, especially in cold weather. I don't remember it being really answered (maybe I missed it). Someone mentioned it may just be an "oil starved VANOS"? If that's the case, is this normal? I mentioned it to the dealer, and they said they'd need to hear it so come back when it's doing it more often:(. Thanks for your time and for information provided in the past. Please reply to my email address also (joekannooks@hotmail.com) as I am in digest mode... thanks again. --- joe 97 silver m3/2/man _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

After about 2 weeks of headaches, false promises and a $1,000 deposit that I am currently trying to recover through legal means, I personally would not recommend an out of state purchase. I'm sure there are pleanty of reputable dealers and individuals out there but I for one will not try to buy another car from out of state. Here is how it came down. Live in North Carolina, friend sent me a Florida AutoTrader. On the front page was my dream M3 Convertable. Called, discussed details, called dealer where warrenty service was done, had a friend in general area to go visually check the car out to confirm condition, talked at length to owner and discussed every detail. Agreed to pay the $155.00 plane fare one way to come get the car and owner agreed that if car was not exactly as advertised he would pay for plane trip back home and split hotel expense if everything was not up to snuff. Arrived at airport, owner picked me up, drove to dealer, discussed every inch of car, had cashiers check cashed, title transfered and headed home. Only one warrenty glitch, not owners problem. I saved $5,900.00 by flying to Fla. Done deal Regards, John ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. *************************************************************

I've watched the cars that they have put up on Ebay and I must say that I'm not very impressed. Was this car on Ebay. I am currently trying to sell my '95 ///M3 and I must say that I would go out of my way to make an out of state purchase as painless as possible for the buyer. It's really too bad that they have tainted your viewpoint. I hope you are able to recover your deposit from them. Date: Tue, 26 Dec 2000 22:00:20 -0600 From: "Chris Gant" <cgant@home.com> Subject: Header Swap Does anyone know if the header on the 96+ M3 is interchangable with the 95 model? I noticed it was stainless steel instead of cast and is supposed to be good for some more torque, as well as being a bit lighter. Has anyone tried this? Chris Gant 95 M3
