#1. Fog Lights Won't Shut Off - from LoweSeaton@aol.com
Top
Date: Wed, 27 Dec 2000 02:24:58 EST From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Fog Lights Won't Shut Off Last night my fog lights wouldn't turn off. I turned off the engine, switched off the head lights, and removed the key but the fog lights and green dash light were still illuminated. Pushing the fog light on/off button 30 times did not do any good. I even had fog lights with the high beams! The only way I could shut off the fog lights (and save my battery from running down) was to pull the fuse. I'm guessing the fog light dash switch is bad. Is that the likely culprit? How hard is the fog light dash switch to replace? Thanks. Lowell Seaton '95 M3 Dallas, Texas BMW CCA #131505

#2. Rotor/Pad replacement - from Jason Sarich

Well, Santa brought me new rotors and pads. Woo Hoo! I would like to replace them myself and have found some resources on the web for replacement, but they all have something different to say. i was hopeing that some of you could give me some feedback from when you replaced your pads and rotors. Aside from the tools required and the rotors and pads, should I be replacing anything else? I have a 99' M3 with 30,000 miles on it. Everything (brake wise) is still original. I am, however, entitled to a full brake fluid flush at the end of january (at the dealer). So I will wait to replace any fluids. let me know if you have any suggestions. So I will >wait to replace any fluids. > >let me know if you have any suggestions. things to check/and or/replace because they might be damaged/worn out: - brake pad wear sensors. they usually last 2-3 sets of pads before they crumble. - calipers. (especially the rubber boots) they usually last one track season. - grease on the caliper guide pins. replace at least every 2-3 pad changes. - brake fluid. replace every 3-4 track events. things to think about upgrading: - brake lines. stainless steel braided lines help alot. - brake fluid. high temp brake fluid is an almost must. even if the dealer will flush it for free, i'd bring them good fluid and have them put that in, as opposed to letting them put regular fluid in there. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

I must say that I did not mean that all transactions would go the way mine did. I'm sure there are great folks out there that are selling these fine automobiles with only the best intentions. US Motorscars, however are just bad people. I've watched the cars that they have put up on Ebay and I must say that I'm not very impressed. Was this car on Ebay. I am currently trying to sell my '95 ///M3 and I must say that I would go out of my way to make an out of state purchase as painless as possible for the buyer. It's really too bad that they have tainted your viewpoint. I hope you are able to recover your deposit from them. #6. washer nozzles, mirrors, rear window heating problem - from Zorine, Dmitri Y, CSCIO

Date: Wed, 27 Dec 2000 09:29:41 -0500 From: "Zorine, Dmitri Y, CSCIO" <dmitri@att.com> Subject: washer nozzles, mirrors, rear window heating problem Like I said, this weekend my windshield washer nozzles froze solid, and my rear defroster doesn't seem to be heating up the window any. I was wondering if they any of you, electrical gurus, know if they are tied into the same circuit? I checked the fuses and none are blown. I don't see any breaks or any physical damage to the rear defroster. It's cold and salty out there, I need to be able to wash my windshield. Help! And it's a '99 non-luxury, if it makes any difference. Thanks Dmitri

#8. Ground Control Sway Bar Reinforcement Gussets - from Bora Akyol

Date: Wed, 27 Dec 2000 11:53:49 -0800 From: "Bora Akyol" <akyol@akyol.org> Subject: Ground Control Sway Bar Reinforcement Gussets Got these welded on today for $30.00 for a total cost of 36.75. The guy that welded them on usually does custom headers etc so he did a good job as far as I could tell with quite a bit of clearance for getting a socket back there. I would recommend these as a low cost way of reinforcing the rear sway bar brackets esp. if you have aftermarket sway bars. BTW, my UUC bars are still squeaking but can't fault the handling. Bora

Dave Holman's site at: www.racepad.com has some good instructions for brake pad replacing (good enough that they got me through my first change :-)). To change the rotor, go through the disassembly steps in the instructions above, then: - Remove caliper bracket (16mm socket & beaker bar) - Remove rotor set screw (6mm hex) - Install new rotor. Set screw has a low torque setting - as tight as you can get by hand is fine. - Re-install caliper bracket. Torque to 81 ft-lbs. - Continue with the rest of the brake pad instructions. If you're near the Pleasant Hill area, you're welcome to come over & use the garage & tools. I'll supervise :-) Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - have changed brake pads in the dark :-)
